New Director for Isle of Man Ship Registry

The Isle of Man Department for Enterprise has announced the appointment of Cameron Mitchell as the next Director of the Isle of Man Ship Registry. He will start his post from 1st April 2019.Cameron has a strong history in the shipping industry working with leading operators Maersk, Geest Line and Farstad Shipping for over 10 years as an engineer.Cameron has also held various roles at the Isle of Man Ship Registry, working as a surveyor for 9 years before taking over as Deputy Director in 2018. Cameron has also worked on a number of projects across government with a focus on delivering performance and quality improvement.Laurence Skelly MHK, Minister for Enterprise, said: "I am delighted with the appointment of Cameron Mitchell as the new Director of the Isle of Man Ship Registry.

Bibby Tops IoM Ship Management

Bibby Ship Management is once again the largest representative for vessels flying the Isle of Man flag in providing representative services for 30% of vessel tonnage registered on the island. This compares with 25% in 2014, according to official statistics. The Isle of Man Ship Registry’s total merchant vessel fleet stands at 407, equating to 14.95m gross tons. From these vessels, Bibby Ship Management has increased its portfolio to 90, an increase of 10 vessels from November 2015. Mark Robertshaw, Group Commercial Director for Bibby Ship Management, said: “Representing the largest proportion of vessels isn’t just a reflection on the quality of the services we offer to our customers, but also how Bibby Ship Management is regarded on the Isle of Man.

Isle of Man Flag Appoints Raja Ray as BDM, Singapore

The Isle of Man Ship Registry has appointed Captain Raja Ray as business development manager in Singapore. The senior appointment is aimed at strengthening the flag’s position in the growing shipping markets of Asia Pacific. Captain Raja is a senior maritime professional who spent almost 20 years working for American Eagle Tankers (AET) as master and then ashore in Singapore and London in Health, Safety, Security and the Environment (HSSE) positions and also as their Designated Person Ashore (DPA). His most recent posting was Head of AET’s Atlantic fleet in Houston. The Isle of Man registry has contracted him to promote the flag to the industry in Singapore and Asia.

IoM, KR Conclude Class Pilot Project

IoM cooperation with the Korean Register (KR) could yield more Asia based tonnage for the Isle of Man ship registry; more than a third of Isle of Man Ship flagged tonnage now operated by ship owners from the Asia Pacific region. The Isle of Man Ship Registry (IoM) recently completed a pilot project with the Korean Register (KR) as a first step towards full recognition of the Korean classification society. The move could mean more Korean owned and classed vessels coming onto the Isle of Man flag in future, IoM said.

Record Tonnage for Isle of Man Registry

Isle of Man Ship Registry Sails into The Year of The Dragon with Record Tonnage. The Isle of Man ship registry, one of the world’s leading ship registries, just announced record tonnage for the year ending 2011, entering the Year of the Dragon with a bang. Gross Registered Tonnage (GRT) is the datum used to compare the world’s ship registers and a year on year comparison shows a 12% increase in total GRT, climbing steadily from 12.36m GRT at the end of 2010 to 13.84m GRT as we enter 2012. With the new numbers, it is now among the top 15 ship registries in the world. This demonstrates significant growth in the larger types of vessels registering given that the register topped 10m GRT for the first time in its history in April 2009.

Seafarers’ rights took a significant step forward after a “Declaration of Principles” agreement was signed which gives seafarers serving on Isle of Man-registered ships better living and employment conditions and pay. Formalising years of hard work to protect seafarers’ interests, the Isle of Man Ship Registry is proud to lead the signing of the tripartite agreement between the Isle of Man Government, the Isle of Man Shipping Association and the seafarers’ representative unions. The “Declaration of Principles”, originally agreed and signed in 2003, has been revised to include recent international developments, taking a big leap towards protecting the lives of seafarers.

Isle of Man Boosts Appoints of Surveyor

The Isle of Man ship Registry has significantly boosted its presence in Asia with the appointment of Geoff Hutcheon (pictured) as its Surveyor in Singapore to serve shipowners in the growing Asia Pacific markets. Geoff Hutcheon will be based in Singapore to cover the statutory requirements for ISM/ISPS/ILO and Flag State Inspections (FSI) on merchant vessels predominantly in the Asia Pacific region, but may also cover other geographical areas as and when required.
