SHI Thrusts on Smart Ship Technology

South Korean shipbuilding giant Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has pushed ahead with advancing smart ship technology thanks to joint work with global equipment producers on SVESSEL, a smart ship system independently developed by Samsung.Yesterday (August 16) SHI signed an MOU with the German-based global company specializing in engine technology MAN-ES for collaboration on smart ship technology development.The MOU mainly aims at enhancing operating services of main marine engines by applying the engine diagnosis and high-tech control technology of MAN-ES to SVESSEL, an SHI's cloud-based smart ship system.Shipbuilding companies will be…

Kongsberg to Equip 2 New Jack-Up Vessels

Kongsberg has been selected to deliver a complete Electro, Instrument & Telecom (EIT), propulsion, safety, automation and dynamic positioning package for two new Gusto NG-2500X DP II design, offshore construction Jack-Up vessels. The vessels are owned by Vahana Offshore Pte Ltd in Singapore. The contracts were awarded by builder Eversendai Offshore RMC FZE (Shipyard) in RAK Maritime City, Ras Al Khaimah, UAE. The Kongsberg scope of supply includes engineering and integration services.

Drydocks World & Dubai Maritime City, the international service provider to the shipping, maritime, offshore, oil, gas and energy sectors, announced its participation in Posidonia from June 2-6, 2014, at Metropolitan Expo, Athens, Greece. UK Report: VT Halmatic Takes Charge

Despite a parceling of marine business to the Far East, the British commercial and naval marine construction base has fought to maintain an edge in certain niches. VT Halmatic has been one of the more progressive and aggressive British companies in maintaining a strong hold on commercial and military marine business, with the production of some outstanding boats for pilot, patrol, marine security and naval operations. Noting the 60 to 70 percent of the company's production is for export, Sebastian Freeman, commercial controller, said, "that's how we survive." While the client list is diverse, VT Halmatic's "bread and butter" is the pilot and workboat markets, and despite the fact that the majority of is boats are sent abroad, the Royal Navy is still its biggest customer for RIBs.
