Meyer Werft Lays Keel for Next Disney Cruise Line Ship

The construction of the next cruise ship for Disney Cruise Line has reached another milestone: assembly of the ship's hull began today with the traditional keel-laying ceremony. The ship is the sister ship of the Disney Treasure, which is also under construction, and the Disney Wish, which launched in 2022.The keel was laid in the 504-meter-long covered building dock at Meyer Werft in Germany. Serenade of the Seas To Be Delivered in Autumn 2003

The first 66 blocks of the 90,090-gt new cruise vessel Serenade of the Seas being built for Royal Caribbean, were lifted into position in the covered building dock at Meyer Werft Shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. Flanked by the yard’s board member, Bernard Meyer, project manager Jarmo Lassko and RCCL’s senior vice president Marine Operations Harri Kulovaara, the ceremonial “lucky coin” was laid before the first block of the new vessel was lowered down onto the keel blocks by the yard’s 600-ton crane. Like its sister ships Radiance and Brilliance of the Seas, the 961-ft. (293-m) Serenade will be fitted with two podded podded drives. The propellers will be directly driven by electric motors installed in a pod under the ship’s hull.

Following extensive dock trials, Royal Caribbean's 88,000-gt Radiance of the Seas departed the covered building dock at Meyer Werft's Papenburg shipyard. The vessel was then towed to the fitting-out quay for further completion of the interior, precedent to its sea trials, which are scheduled for January. The first of a four-part vessel series built by Meyer Werft for RCCL, Radiance of the Seas measures 962 ft. (293.2 m) with a breadth of 106 ft. (32.2 m). With its top service speed of more than 24 knots, the vessel can accommodate up to 2,500 passengers in 1,050 cabins; 850 crewmembers. Propelled via two 20 MW azipods, the vessel is the first of its kind to house a combination gas and steam turbine power package. The vessel is scheduled for a spring 2001 delivery.

River Ems Passage to Start in mid September

Upon completion of tests and engine trials the 93,500 gt cruise ship Norwegian Gem will leave the covered building dock of Meyer Werft on Sunday, August 12. Undocking of the ship, which is built for the American cruise operator Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL). With the ship being berthed at the outfitting pier, outstanding work will be completed on board. The Ems passage of the newbuilding to the sea trials port in Eemshaven/Netherlands is planned for mid of September 2007. A detailed schedule will be published within short. The new luxury liner has a length overall of 294.13 m, is 32.2 m wide and reaches a speed of more than 24 knots. More than 2,400 passengers can be accommodated in 1,197 cabins and are taken care of by a crew of about 1,100.
