Dutch Shipyard Wins Contract to Build New Vessel Type, "Monomaran Crewtender"

The signing of a contract between shipping company COS Master and the Groningen shipbuilder Next Generation Shipyards in Lauwersoog for the building of an offshore service vessel.

Coastwise Offshore Services and Next Generation Shipyards signed a contract for the building of a new type of vessel, an aluminum vessel for the offshore wind-industry, with an option for three additional vessels. The signing took place at Next Generation Shipyards on Lauwersoog, the Netherlands. The new boat aims to combine the stability of a catamaran with the speed and fuel efficiency of a monohull, and the building of the vessel was at the initiative of Coastwise Offshore Services, the new shipping enterprise owned by Eelko Wijdieks, Douwe van den Berg and Onno Nienhuis.

North Carolina Ferries Change Course for the Future

Shoaling shifts NCDOT’s propulsion needs, prompting a sea change. Thrustmaster waterjets step in to carry the day. In Swansboro, N.C., boatbuilder U.S. Workboats (formerly Armstrong Marine) is assembling the linchpin of the North Carolina Department of Transport’s (NCDOT) business plan for its future Outer Banks ferry services. Separately, in both Hatteras and Ocracoke, crews are preparing to break ground on new parking additions and visitor facilities. The Ocracoke Express passenger ferry project – made necessary by the shifting and unpredictable shoaling on North Carolina’s Outer Banks – will, starting this summer, change forever the way tourists and visitors get to and from these national treasures.

Thustmaster Expands Its Waterjets Team

Marine propulsion and thrusters manufacturer Thrustmaster of Texas announced that Leonard Hill and Jason Hill have joined its waterjet team, bringing with them more than 65 years of experience in waterjet design, manufacturing and sales. Leonard Hill began his waterjet career at Jacuzzi Brothers waterjet division in 1978, and in 1984 purchased the waterjet product line from Jacuzzi to start North American Marine Jet (NAMJet). Leonard invented and introduced a new style of jet to the market place known as the TRAKTOR JET, which combines all the features of the conventional waterjet with higher thrust, especially at low vessel speeds.

Waterjet-propelled Crewboat Delivered to Petrobras

BS Camburi, a 36-meter Monohull Crewboat built in Brazil by Arpoador Engenharia to the Petrobras type P2 specification has been launched and delivered. Designed by Incat Crowther, the 118-foot (36-meter) aluminum crewboat is powered by triple CAT C32 ACERT diesel engines coupled to three Thrustmaster DOEN DJ290 waterjets. Designed to Petrobras type P2 crew boat spec, this vessel will transport up to 70 passengers and crew as well as carry 50 tons of deck cargo plus fuel and fresh water cargo at a fully loaded service speed of more than 17 knots.

Offshore: Modern Crewboat Delivered to Brazil Supply

Fast, capable crewboat design and construction continues to be a leading edge niche in the global marine market, the latest manifestation being the BS Camburi, a 36-meter monohull crewboat built in Brazil by Arpoador Engenharia to the Petrobras type P2 specification, for Brazil Supply. Incat Crowther designed the boat. The vessel’s aft main deck features a large open deck, separated for two main purposes. The aft portion, measuring 60.5m2, is dedicated to a man-riding basket. The forward portion, measuring 28 sq. m., is dedicated to cargo, with large cargo rails offering heavy duty protection.

Thrustmaster Announces Factory Expansion

Thrustmaster of Texas, a manufacturer of commercial marine propulsion products, signed a deal last week to expand its Houston-based production facility by 100,000 sqft (93,000 sq m). Thrustmaster said the multimillion dollar investment has been in the making for two years and is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2015 by Third Coast General Contractors. Thrustmaster’s deal with DOEN brings waterjet manufacturing to the United States. Marine propulsion and thruster manufacturer Thrustmaster of Texas, Inc. announced a deal earlier this year to acquire the technology of DOEN, an Australian designer and manufacturer of waterjet propulsion systems. The deal is significant in that it makes Thrustmaster the only producer of commercial waterjets in the United States, helping the Houston-based company to expand upon an already strong line of commercial marine propulsion offerings.

Thrustmaster announced an agreement with DOEN which it says makes it the only U.S.-based manufacturer of commercial waterjets for marine propulsion. DOEN is an Australian-based designer and manufacturer of waterjet propulsion systems, one of five marine waterjet manufactures in the world building waterjets up to 5,364 hp (4,000 kW). Thrustmaster has introduced two new models to the DOEN waterjet product lineup: the 400/450 series Thrustmaster DOEN waterjets will extend the power range 8,582 hp (6,400 kW) to accommodate vessels over +45m with stainless steel jets using DOEN’s axial flow design.

Thrustmaster Adds Waterjets to Product Line

Thruster manufacturer Thrustmaster of Texas, Inc. expanded its product lineup to include waterjets after acquiring the technology of DOEN Pacific on Wednesday. DOEN, a designer and manufacturer of waterjet propulsion systems for the past 48 years, is one of five marine waterjet manufactures in the world building waterjets up to 4,000 kW for the commercial and military marine markets. First of Three Incat Crewboats Delivered in Brazil

Incat Crowther announced the launch and delivery of BS Maresias. Built by Arpoador Engenharia Ltda, BS Maresias is the first of three 45m Monohull Crewboats meeting the specifications of the Petrobras P3-type crewboat for service in the Brazilian offshore oil fields. The vessel’s design features a large aft main cargo deck optimized for cargo and crew transfers. The 78m2 cargo space has a cargo capacity of 150t. The main cabin features seating for 60 passengers, two toilets, a beverage counter and large luggage racks.

More Crewboats from Incat Crowther

Incat Crowther was awarded contracts to design a pair of new fast oilfield service vessels for Arpoador Engenharia in Brazil. The 36m vessel will meet the Petrobras type P2 specification and the 48m vessel will comply with the type UT4000 specification. The first of the two contracted vessel types is a 36m Monohull crewboat designed to the Petrobras P2 specification. The vessel’s aft main deck features 60.5m2 dedicate to a man-riding basket, and a further 28m2 for cargo. Forward of this is the passenger cabin with 60 seats in a mixture of forward-facing and booth styles.

Doen Pacific Enters into Joint License Agreement

Doen Pacific as one of only 5 marine waterjet manufacturers in the world matching engines to 4,000kW, and CSIC, one of the two largest shipbuilding conglomerates in China, together with its Member WMMP, have jointly signed a license agreement for the manufacture and sale of WMMP‐DOEN Waterjets in China. The signing ceremony took place on October 29, in Wuhan, China, and was attended by representatives of each company, headed by Mr. He Jiwu, Board Chairman and President ‐ Wuhan Marine Machinery Plant; Mr. Wu Jing, Vice‐Executive General Manager ‐ China Shipbuilding & Offshore International Co. BCGP Unveils Newest Model: 1100 Impact

Brunswick Commercial and Government Products (BCGP) unveiled its newest model ─ the 1100 Impact ─ during the 2011 Multi-Agency Craft Conference (MACC) in Virginia Beach, Va. This 36-foot rigid hull inflatable boat (RHIB) is the first model BCGP has powered with optional twin diesel Cummins 5.9 inboard engines and dual Doen waterjets. “This new platform gives our customers a range of propulsion options,” said BCGP Sales Manager Jeremy Davis. “It was specifically designed for optimum performance, whether it is equipped with inboards with jets or sterndrives, or outboards,” he said.

Doen Water Jet Order from Willard Marine

Transmission Engineering Company (TECO) announced they have received an order for thirty Doen DJ110Z Water Jets from Willard Marine, in Anaheim, Calif. The water jets will be installed in Willard Marine’s 36-ft Rigid Inflatable Boat for the U.S. Navy. The order includes water jets, hydraulic pumps and steering components, with deliveries being completed by March 2011. “Our ability to respond quickly is one of the many values we bring as a business partner with Willard Marine”, said Phil Watson, TECO’s General Manger. Doen Water Jets are currently in operation throughout many countries in the world, with some Doen Water Jets casted with TWIN DISC on the reverse bucket.
