CSOV IWS Skywalker Delivered

Integrated Wind Solutions (IWS) announced its IWS Fleet subsidiary has taken delivery of the new commissioning service operations vessel (CSOV) IWS Skywalker from shipbuilder China Merchants Industry Holdings Co., Ltd. (CMI).After transit to Europe, the vessel will commence the first out of three charter contracts at the world's largest offshore wind farm—Dogger Bank, in the U.S.—in the first quarter of 2024.The purpose-built IWS Skywalker is the first of a series of six identical sister vessels, with the remaining five vessels scheduled for delivery in 2024 and 2025.

Vard Vung Tau Delivers SOV for Dogger Bank Operations

Vard, a Norwegian firm specializing in shipbuilding and design, said Friday its subsidiary in Vietnam, Vard Vung Tau, had delivered a newbuild 944 Grampian Tees service operation vessel to owner North Star.This SOV is the third of four purpose-designed and built ships destined for decade-long minimum charters to support operations and maintenance (O&M) work at the Dogger Bank offshore wind farm.Once the wind farm currently under construction is fully operational, it will become the largest in the world, producing enough electricity to power six million British homes.

Dogger Bank Produces First Power

The first phase of the Dogger Bank Wind Farm has started exporting electricity to British consumers.The 3.6GW Dogger Bank Wind Farm is being constructed in UK waters 70 nautical miles (130 kilometers, 80 miles) off the coast of Yorkshire in the UK’s North Sea in three 1.2GW phases known as Dogger Bank A, B and C.Dogger Bank will occupy an area almost as large as Greater London and nearly twice the size of New York City. IWS Fleet Strikes Deal to Put Off Yard Payments for Offshore Wind Service Vessels

Integrated Wind Solutions' subsidiary, IWS Fleet AS, has agreed with the shipyard China Merchants Industry Holdings to postpone equity yard installments of a total of 36 million euros on IWS Seawalker, IWS Starwalker, IWS Moonwalker, and IWS Sunwalker offshore wind service vessels up to one year, to strengthen the company’s liquidity position. The delivery schedules for IWS Windwalker, IWS Seawalker, and IWS Sunwalker vessels are unchanged, while IWS Moonwalker and IWS Sunwalker are moved forward by one month.

Great Yarmouth Shipbuilder to Build Offshore Wind Daughter Craft Duo

UK-based offshore vessel operator North Star has awarded a new contract to Great Yarmouth-based shipbuilding Alicat Workboats Ltd for the construction of two new offshore wind daughter craft.The hybrid-propulsion workboats 5 & 6, designed by Chartwell Marine, will be integrated into North Star’s renewable fleet. Vard Cuts First Steel in Vietnam for North Star's Service Operations Vessel

Shipbuilder Vard on Monday held the steel cutting ceremony for a North Star service operation vessel at Vard Vung Tau in Vietnam.This is the fourth SOV to be delivered from VARD to North Star for operation on the Dogger Bank offshore wind farm in the UK North Sea.The newbuild is of the VARD 4 12 design, developed by Vard Design in Ålesund, Norway. The SOV will be 78 meters long with a beam of 19 meters and be able to accommodate 60 persons in single cabins. The hybrid vessel will be equipped with a diesel-electric propulsion system

North Star to Expand Offshore Wind Fleet with Two New Vessels from Vard

Norwegian shipbuilder Vard, part of Italy's Fincantieri, has signed new contracts to design and construct two commissioning service operation vessels (CSOVs) for the UK-based offshore vessel owner North Star.The agreement also has an option for two additional ships, which could ultimately create a total of up to 200 new seafaring job opportunities across the CSOV fleet once operational, Vard said.North Star, which employs 1,300 crew and onshore personnel, has committed to delivering 40 offshore wind vessels by 2040.According to Vard

Edda Wind Daughter Craft for Dogger Bank Offshore Wind Farm

Norwegian offshore service operation vessel provider and operator Edda Wind has launched the Boreas Worker daughter craft crew transfer vessel (CTV).The vessel, designed by Chartwell Marine, has been built by Alicat Workboats, on behalf of Astilleros Gondan. Gondan Shipyard Delivers Edda Boreas CSOV to Edda Wind

Norway-based offshore wind service vessel firm Edda Wind on Thursday took delivery of Edda Boreas CSOV from Gondan Shipyard. The vessel is the second of six sister vessels to be delivered from Gondan.The commissioning service operation vessel will start installation of the motion-compensated gangway- and crane system after leaving the yard in Spain. GE Wants to Build Offshore Wind Blade, Nacelle Manufacturing Sites in New York

General Electric recently filed a plan to build two new offshore wind manufacturing facilities in New York if it wins enough orders from companies in the state’s ongoing solicitation for up to 4.6 GW of offshore wind.GE proposed building the factories with Carver Companies at their Port of Coeymans site. The company said that, should it receive sufficient order volume, its LM Wind Power subsidiary would be ready to build a "state-of-the-art facility" for the construction of offshore wind turbine blades.

Offshore Wind: IWS Fleet Orders Two More CSOVs from Chinese Shipbuilder

IWS Fleet AS has ordered two more Walk-to-Work commissioning service operations vessels (“CSOV”) from China Merchants Industry Holdings Co., Ltd.The company said Tuesday that the two newbuilds would be delivered in the second quarter of 2025. Edda Wind, the Norwegian offshore wind vessel owner, held a naming ceremony for its "Edda Boreas" commissioning service operation vessel on Saturday.The traditional ceremony where a bottle of champagne was sacrificed for good luck took place at Gondan Shipbuilders in Spain. “Boreas” comes from the god of northerly wind in Greek mythology.The Edda Boreas is a purpose-built Commissioning Service Operation Vessel (CSOV), prepared for emission-free operations with a hydrogen-based propulsion system.

Offshore installation specialist Jan De Nul Group said Tuesday that its flagship newbuild jack-up vessel, Voltaire, had left the COSCO Shipping Shipyard in China and was heading for Dubai.The vessel was delivered by the shipyard on December 15, and departed from the shipyard on Tuesday morning."With her crane capacity of 3,000 tons, four immense legs of 130 meters, and capacity to lift 16,000 tons of useful cargo out of the water, Voltaire is the world’s tallest jack-up installation vessel," Jan De Nul said.

North Star Secures Funding for Offshore Wind Fleet Construction

Jan De Nul's Newbuild Jack-up Voltaire Suffers 'Limited Damage' in China Typhoon

Offshore installation specialist Jan De Nul Group said Thursday that the shipyard in China where its flagship jack-up installation vessel Voltaire is being built, was hit by typhoon Muifa in China during the night of 14 to 15 September 2022."The eye of the typhoon passed over the shipyard, causing the vessel to come loose from its moorings. Fortunately, no one was injured. Voltaire is now safely moored back in the shipyard and first sight assessments show limited damage to certain parts of the crane and the helideck.

North Star's Offshore Wind Vessel Named After Victorian Heroine Grace Darling

North Star’s new UK-built hybrid-powered daughter craft, specifically designed for the offshore wind market, has been launched at a naming ceremony held at the Royal Norfolk and Suffolk Yacht club in Lowestoft, adjacent to the firm’s regional operations hub. The vessel was christened ‘Grace Darling’ in honor of a famous lighthouse keeper’s daughter from the North East of England who risked her life in 1838 to save the stranded survivors of a wrecked merchant ship traveling from Hull to Dundee.
