Dorian LPG Takes Delivery of Dual-fuel VLGC

Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) shipping company Dorian LPG announced it has taken delivery of the newly built very large gas carrier (VLGC) Captain Markos from Japanese shipbuilder Kawasaki Heavy Industries.The 84,000 cubic meter capacity VLGC is a dual-fuel vessel capable of running on on LPG and low-sulfur fuel oil.The ship  is owned by a Japanese owner will be operated by Dorian LPG under a 13-year bareboat charter, trading in the Helios LPG Pool which Dorian LPG jointly operates with Phoenix Tankers Pte. Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mitsui OSK Lines Ltd.

Equinor Sells Its Oil Terminal in the Bahamas

Norwegian energy company Equinor announced it has entered into an agreement to sell its oil terminal in the Bahamas to Estonian logistics and investment business Liwathon. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.The South Riding Point oil terminal at the Grand Bahama Island, commissioned in 1973 was purchased by Equinor in 2009 to enable the company to trade oil primarily originating from the American markets. Sailors’ Society Expands Seafarer Wellness Campaign

Shipping companies are being invited to sign up to a free mental health and wellbeing campaign offering support not just to crews, but also their families and shore staff.International maritime charity Sailors’ Society said it has expanded its Wellness at Sea Awareness Campaign to include families and shore staff. The 27-week campaign, which starts in June, will help seafarers, their families and shore staff understand how they can manage their own wellbeing and navigate common challenges that people connected to the maritime industry can face.

Dorian LPG to Install Kongsberg Digital’s Vessel Insight

Kongsberg Digital announced that Dorian LPG (DK) ApS, a subsidiary of Dorian LPG Ltd., owner and operator of very large gas carriers (VLGC), has contracted to install Vessel Insight to its entire fleet of 22 liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carriers. The agreement is expected to commence operation in the upcoming months.By installing Vessel Insight, Dorian is consolidating collection of all critical data from its entire VLGC fleet into one common infrastructure. The company aims to gain insight into signals coming from the fleet’s assets and enable realization of data-driven operations.

VLGC Orderbook Stands at 13% of Global Fleet

1st Ship Dry Docks at Grand Bahama After Major Hurricane

Freeport-based Grand Bahama Shipyard announced that it drydocked its first vessel since reopening the shipyard after Hurricane Dorian hit The Bahamas.The Taipei Trader, a 9,932-ton container ship operated by Lomar Shipping Limited, docked at the No. 3 dock this week, for its ongoing drydock, which was interrupted by the hurricane.Taipei Trader first docked at the yard on August 25 for a routine program including propulsion and thruster maintenance, and preparation of the hull for protective coating application. Carnival to Build 2 New Ports in Bahamas

Equinor Sends Vessels to Clean up Bahamas Oil Spill

USCG Reopens Savannah With Restrictions, Continues Assessments

In the southeast United States, the Port of Savannah, Georgia is now open with a 36-foot draft restriction and the Ports of Brunswick, Georgia and Charleston, South Carolina remain closed to commercial operations following Hurricane Dorian.Assessment teams are conducting surveys of channel depth, verifications of aids to navigation and inspections of port facilities.“Maintaining safe and efficient operations on our region’s waterways is a top priority,” said Captain John Reed, Sector Charleston Commander.

USCG Sets Port Condition Zulu for Charleston

Effective 8 a.m. Wednesday, the Coast Guard Captain of the Port (COTP) set Port Condition Zulu for the Port of Charleston due to the anticipated arrival of sustained gale force winds from Hurricane Dorian within 12 hours.During port condition Zulu, no vessels may enter or transit within the port without permission of the COTP.
