Sulzer Shareholder has 5 pct Dresser-Rand Stake

Russian billionaire Viktor Vekselberg's Swiss investment firm Renova Group said on Friday it had a 4.99 percent stake in U.S.-based Dresser-Rand, which might become the object of a takeover battle. Swiss pump maker Sulzer, in which Renova Group has a 33 percent stake, said this week it was in non-exclusive talks with compressor and turbine maker Dresser-Rand, and media reported on Friday Germany's Siemens was also considering a bid. Source: Siemens Offering $6.1 bln for Dresser Rand

Germany's Siemens plans to offer more than $6.1 billion, or $80 per share, for U.S. compressor and turbine maker Dresser-Rand, Germany's Manager Magazin said on Friday. Siemens declined to comment on the report. Such an offer would put Siemens in competition with Swiss pump maker Sulzer, which said on Wednesday it was in talks on a potential merger with Dresser-Rand.   Reporting by Georgina Prodhan

Dresser-Rand to Acquire Synchrony

Dresser-Rand Group Inc. (NYSE: DRC) signed a definitive agreement to acquire Synchrony, Inc. The transaction is expected to close in January 2012. Synchrony is a technology development company with a portfolio of technologies and products including active magnetic bearings (AMB), high speed motors and generators, and power electronics for clean, efficient, and reliable rotating machinery. A private company founded in 1993, Synchrony is headquartered in Roanoke County, Virginia, where it develops, manufactures, and tests its products in an ISO 9001-certified facility which includes a best-in-class model shop  for rapid prototype fabrication and assembly.

ASA - New Advisory Council Officers

The American Shipbuilding Association (ASA) announced the election of four new Partner Advisory Council officers for calendar years 2009 and 2010. They were elected by their fellow ASA members in the fall of 2008. The four newly-elected officers of the Council are Pete Goumas, General Manager, The Babcock and Wilcox Company, Nuclear Operations Group, Euclid, OH; Shoun Kerbaugh, Vice President, Naval Systems/Merchant, Converteam Inc., Pittsburgh, PA; Bruce Rosenblatt, President, Bruce S. Dresser-Rand Signs SSA with DLA

Dresser-Rand recently announced the signing of a Strategic Supplier Alliance (SSA) with the Navy's Defense Logistics Agency (DLA). In a recent letter to Dresser-Rand, Keith W. According to Dresser-Rand president, Vince Volpe, "Closer relationships with key clients is a trend we endorse wholeheartedly. This alliance is unique because it establishes long-term relations in an area of our business that has been traditionally project oriented. Dresser-Rand has also signed a new Performance Based Logistics (PBL) contract with the Defense Supply Center, Columbus (DSCC). This contract supports the strategic supplier alliance, as it includes improved processes and reduced lead times for the sole sourced D-R navy compressor components that are covered by this contract.

Stewart & Stevenson Completes Emergency Diesel Generator Sets for Carrier

Stewart & Stevenson Services, Inc., announced that the company's Distributed Energy Solutions Division in Houston has successfully completed production and testing on four high voltage emergency generator sets for the U.S. Navy's next nuclear aircraft carrier. Delivery of the first pair was made in May of 2003 and the second pair is more than a year ahead of schedule. The Nimitz Class carrier, originally designated CVN77 and later named the USS George H.W. Bush in a Pentagon ceremony in early December 2002, is under construction at Northrop Grumman Newport News in Virginia. The carrier will rely on backup power provided by Emergency Diesel Generator (EDG) sets produced by Stewart & Stevenson.

Dresser-Rand to Supply For Statoil Platform

Dresser-Rand will supply gas export compression equipment for Statoil's Troll A platform in the North Sea. The equipment, approaching $8 million, is being purchased by ABB AS Offshore Systems and will be supplied under the terms of D-R's frame contract with Statoil. D-R will provide two DATUM centrifugal compressors driven by 40 MW electric motors to the main contractor ABB AS Offshore Systems. The motors, purchased by Statoil directly from ABB Industries will be shipped to the module manufacturing yard in Norway and connected to the compressor packages under supervision of D-R and ABB. D-R's LeHavre, France, facility will provide the DATUM compressors. Delivery is scheduled for September 2003, with the equipment expected to go online in May 2005.

Dresser-Rand To Supply Power Generation Equipment For BP

Dresser-Rand has received orders to supply power generation equipment to the BP Deep Water Development Program in the Gulf of Mexico. The equipment is being supplied by Dresser-Rand's Norwegian operations in Kongsberg and Drammen is comprised of Dresser-Rand DR61G turbo generator sets powered by GE LM2500 gas turbines, which drive Siemens electrical generators. BP has placed security of supply orders at approximately $120 million for a total of 14 units. The initial production release is for three units scheduled for delivery mid-2002, with the balance of releases projected over the next two to three years. Dresser-Rand Garners Propulsion Turbine Contract

Newport News Shipbuilding has granted Dresser-Rand Company a $9 million contract for the initial phases of production of the main propulsion turbines for the U.S. Navy's Nimitz Class CVN-77 nuclear powered aircraft carrier exceeding a top speed of 30 knots. Dresser-Rand, Wellsville, N.Y., will construct four high-pressure steam turbines and four low-pressure steam turbines with a combined output of more than 250,000-hp. Each pair of high and low pressure steam turbines are in a cross compound configuration driving a 30-ton plus propeller through double reduction gears.

Dresser-Rand To Provide Petrobras With Compression Equipment

A new floating production, storage and off-loading (FPSO) facility being built to extract oil and gas from offshore Brazil will include gas compression modules worth approximately $35 million from the Dresser-Rand Company. The FPSO, which will operate in the Petrobras Albacora Leste field, is anticipated to produce approximately 180,000 barrels of oil and 6.0 million cubic meters of gas a day. The compression equipment will be used for gas lift oil production as well as for gas transmission from the FPSO by pipeline to shore. Operation is expected to begin in September 2003. Dresser-Rand will provide three compression trains including DATUM high-efficiency centrifugal compressors driven by variable speed drive (VSD) electric motors, and a control room.
