Marsol International, a UAE-based global marine solutions provider focused on the offshore oil terminal market and related infrastructure, will be launching and demonstrating its Rhino Craft 750 HDPE vessel at exclusive events in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. DP World Group Chairman and CEO, Mr Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem has met the President of Somaliland, Mr Ahmed Mohamed Mahamoud, during a visit to the country following the signing of a term sheet agreement in Dubai earlier this month to invest in the multi-purpose Port of Berbera. Mr Bin Sulayem and senior executives from DP World were hosted in the Presidential Palace in the capital Hargeisa where they also met government ministers and officials including Foreign Minister, Dr Saad Ali Shire; Minister of Presidential Affairs, Mr Mahmoud Hashi; Minister of Finance, Ms Zam Zam Aden; Minister of National Planning and Development, Mr Ali Hussein Ismail and Minister of Trade and Investment, Mr Hussein Adan Igeh.

Khamis Juma Buamim, Chairman of Drydocks World & Maritime World, the international service provider to the maritime and oil and gas sectors, visited Jadaf shipyard, one of the oldest such yards in the region addressing the repair and maintenance of small to midsize vessels. The visit to the shipbuilding and repair yard Jadaf Dubai, the oldest facility in the Gulf region, was aimed at inspecting the facility, services and competency at repair and maintenance of ships, yachts and cruise ships and small and medium-sized tugs operating in the Dubai Creek.

Special Majlis (traditional meeting place) at Jadaf to serve the maritime community opened by Majid Bin Mohammed. The Majlis constitutes amenities and large meeting spaces including a prayer hall and is situated in a serene location close to Dubai Creek. Reduction in rates aimed to benefit small vessel owners. Maritime World has announced the reduction of tariff rates along all aspects of the business at Dubai Maritime City (DMC) and Jadaf from January 2013. This is in light of Drydocks World – Dubai’s 30th Anniversary celebrations in 2013. The reduction by from 2012 rates is aimed at facilitating the growth of the industry at the micro-level and increasing the repair and maintenance options available to small to medium size vessel-owners.

The Mission to Seafarers and The Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry teamed up over the weekend to collect and distribute 1,000 Ramadan gifts for the seafarers who live and work onboard the dhows moored along Dubai Creek. While the world is in the grip of an economic slowdown, the Arabian Gulf remains a dynamic growth centre for ship building and repair, said a maritime industry observer. “The region is one of the busiest commercial maritime hubs with the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Qatar having major ports and shipyards with more being built,” said Christopher Hayman, Chairman of Seatrade, organisers of the region's premier event focused on workboats to be held in Abu Dhabi later this year. Workboats include tugs, ferries, supply vessels; police, fire, patrol, pilot, rescue and oil spill boats; along with, dredgers, barges and floating cranes, with more than 2,000 such vessels estimated to be docked or repaired in the Middle East.

According to reports, Dubai Maritime City has announced the launch of manufacturing process of new shiplifts of Jadaf Dubai -- one of the oldest ship repair yard in the Arabian Gulf - which is currently located at Dubai Creek. The shift of Jadaf Dubai to Dubai Maritime City reflects the distinction of the Maritime City as a prestigious location and is expected to provide a major impetus to regional maritime trade. The relocation will also facilitate a number of companies operational at Jadaf Dubai to expand their operations. With its direct access to sea, vessels calling at Dubai Maritime City will not be limited by size, as is the case at Al Jadaf Dubai's current location where vessels are restricted because of bridge crossings.
