Dredging at the Forefront of Corps' 2020 Work Plan

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' FY2020 Work Plan release on Monday places dredging at the forefront.“We welcome the FY 2020 Work Plan released by the Army Corps,” said William P. Dredging Begins in Milford Harbor

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will be dredging MIlford Harbor over the next two weeks, says a press release from Milford Mayor Ben Blake’s office. Army Corps will be using a 150-foot vessel called the Currituck, which is a special purpose dredge barge. Over the next two weeks, the crew of the Currituck will remove the silting and shoaling along the federal channel by relocating approximately 14,000 cubic yards of material to a near shore site, off of Bayview Beach. “The dredging will be at no cost to the city and will help ensure that Connecticut’s most popular recreational harbor remains safe to navigate,” said Mayor Ben Blake. MMA Tug Crew Honored

The master and crew of Maine Maritime Academy's tug boat, Pentagoet, were recently cited for outstanding service to fellow mariners in peril in a letter of appreciation from USCG Captain Harry E. Haynes, Commander, Group Southwest Harbor. The letter recognized Captain Tim Leach, master of the vessel; Harry Stevens, mate engineer; and Zander Parker, MMA student crew member, for their assistance to the Coast Guard in voluntarily responding to the aid of the disabled tug and barge, Mackenzie Ryan. Maine Maritime Academy President Leonard Tyler presented the letter to the master and crew in a special ceremony held last week during the college's daily morning formation.

Cape Fear River – Security Zone

The U.S. Coast Guard established a temporary security zone at the North Carolina State Pier Authority (NCSPA), Wilmington, to include portions of the Cape Fear River and Eagle Island. This security zone will be in effect through at least November 7, 2004. 69 Fed. Reg. 42876 (HK Law).
