Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement Chooses eCommerce Solution

Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement, a global leader in Shipmanagement, has in collaboration with WSS chosen MarineLink eCommerce for its SDCs globally. Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement manages a fleet of more than 650 vessels out of which over 300 vessels are under full management. Last year EDB ErgoGroup purchased Wilhelmsen Ships Service's eCommerce solution, MTS, and has integrated it into its advanced eCommerce platform and has already added new functionality for invoice processing and logistics integration.

Thome Ship Management selects MarineLink as its sole eCommerce provider

Thome Ship Management, one of the world’s leading independent international ship managers, has chosen MarineLink eCommerce provided by EDB ErgoGroup as the sole eCommerce provider for its purchasing operations. The three year contract covers its entire fleet of about 150 vessels. E-business solutions are not new to Thome Ship Management, as the group has been using e-business solutions since 2005. In April 2007, Thome Ship Management added the then MTS to their e-business platform.

Mitsubishi, Wärtsilä Joins for Improved Power and Propulsion Solution

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Marine Machinery & Equipment Co., LTD (MHI-MME) and the smart technology group Wärtsilä have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) regarding the commercial marketing of a new energy solution for ships. The solution combines innovative technologies from both companies to produce greater power generation capacity and higher propeller propulsion for marine vessels. INTTRA & APL Expand Business Relationship

The companies agree that INTTRA will support APL’s global e-commerce growth strategy, as well as enhance its global customer service offerings. With more than two million container orders initiated on the INTTRA platform each month, INTTRA says it reaches the largest worldwide community of ocean freight buyers with solutions for online, desktop and system-to-system integrations. The INTTRA network includes over 64,000 companies, shipping to and from more than 130 countries. This broad e-commerce reach will enable APL to more quickly and effectively deliver the increased efficiency and cost saving benefits of electronic shipping to customers in all the markets it serves.

P&O Ferries, MTN Transform Sea Travel Communications

P&O Ferries and MTN Communications (MTN) announce the delivery of high-performance Internet connectivity and access to online content through the first Wi-Fi hot spot on the English Channel. This service is now live on the English Channel on ferries serving the P&O Ferries Dover-Calais route. These vessels are reportedly the first ferries in the world connected to the MTN Terrestrial Broadband Network (TBN), in addition to having back-up satellite connectivity, as many cruise ships do today.

Wärtsilä, GTT Partner on LNG Solutions

Wärtsilä and GTT finalized a cooperation agreement at the Marintec conference and exhibition in Shanghai, China on December 5. The aim of the cooperation is to explore potential business opportunities in the marine sector in relation to liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage, fuel gas supply systems and associated services that will benefit both shipyards and vessel owners. Wärtsilä has experience and in-house expertise in LNG fuel gas applications, as well as gas carrier process know-how, while GTT has capabilities in developing cryogenic membrane containment solutions.

Clarksons Bunker Group becomes OceanConnect UK Limited

Clarksons announced that it is increasing its equity share in OceanConnect following OceanConnect's acquisition of the Clarksons Bunker Group. The move adds five professional fuel brokers to OceanConnect's London group, making it one of the largest brokering teams in London. OceanConnect UK Ltd, OceanConnect's London affiliate, will handle all bunker transactions previously serviced by Clarksons Bunker Group. "Clarksons and OceanConnect began a joint marketing and services agreement in March 2001. a superior brokering service. The results were outstanding. By working together, we moved beyond brokering. Trelleborg Solutions for FLNG Ship-to-Shore System

Trelleborg has hailed the recent test of the Universal Transfer System (UTS) conducted with Connect LNG and Gas Natural Fenosa, as tangible evidence of the new applications that its suite of products for jettyless LNG transfer can unlock in this challenging field. Andrea Metzger has been appointed Managing Director of Geodis Logistics Northern Europe, an entity grouping the logistics activities of Geodis in Belgium, Germany, Ireland and the Netherlands. Andrea Metzger is a graduate of European Business School. She began her career at Price Waterhouse then moved on to Dyckerhoff AG before joining Geodis in 1999, as Financial Director and then as Managing Director of Geodis Logistics in Germany. Her remit is to consolidate Geodis growth in the strategic region, home to the large ports of the North Sea.

Hamburg Süd Launches Free App

Hamburg Süd has just released a free app for smartphones and tablets that is available for its customers to download. The Hamburg Süd app allows customers to access information about Track & Trace, timetables, offices and news wherever they may be. The new app was developed jointly by Hamburg Süd and the IT consultancy Capgemini. It is available for Android and iOS operating systems in both German and English, and can be downloaded to the operating device from the Google Play Store (Android) or from Apple iTunes (iOS).

BW Fleet Management Selects MarineLink

Oslo based BW Fleet Management have chosen to sign a 3 year “BuyerLink” Service contract with EVRY, to use the MarineLink Service and run in parallel with their other eCommence providers who integrates directly with their Oracle EBS Purchasing application. BW Fleet Management has used the MarineLink service for many years for transactions with Wilhelmsen Ships Service, Alfa Laval and engine manufacturer Wärtsilä. However, this year they decided to split their eCommerce between two service providers, MarineLink from EVRY, being one of the winning suppliers. Head of Global Purchasing at BW, Tor-Egil Gjulem says,  "We have used the MarineLink service for many years, along with ShipServ.

UASC Chooses INTTRA's eVGM Service

With implementation of a new global container weight requirement less than a month away, global carrier United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) has extended its partnership with ocean shipping electronic marketplace INTTRA, to use the INTTRA eVGM Service as a channel to facilitate compliance with the new rule. As of July 1, under the International Maritime Organization's Safety of Life at Sea Verified Gross Mass amendment (SOLAS VGM) as adopted, every container must have a certified weight in order to gain clearance to be loaded onto a ship.

MSC Launches 'myMSC'

MSC has recently launched a new customer portal called ‘myMSC’ which allows you to submit your VGM instructions online and much more. The launch of this portal has been advanced in anticipation of the new SOLAS regulation which comes into effect on the 1st July 2016. MSC will roll out additional functionality over the course of 2016. The portal will offer complete online management of your cargo including; rate requests, bookings, shipping instructions, manifest correctors, notice of arrivals, financial records, schedules, cut-off information, rates of exchange and VGM submission.

Aker to Design Johan Castberg FPSO Accommodations

Aker Solutions won a contract from Sembcorp Marine to design the living quarters for the Johan Castberg development's floating production, storage and offloading vessel (FPSO). The work scope includes detailed design engineering of the living quarters and technical specifications for the equipment and supplies required for Sembcorp to construct the accommodation unit for the Statoil-operated development. Johan Castberg is the largest oil discovery in the Norwegian Barents Sea.

Kongsberg Digital Acquires a Share of NSG Digital

Kongsberg Digital and NSG Digital have collaborated since the beginning of 2017 on developing a new logistics system called NSG E2E. Kongsberg Digital is purchasing a 34 percent ownership share in NSG Digital, a subsidiary of the supply base and logistics company NorSea Group. NorSea Group, controlled by Wilhelmsen, is joining forces with Kongsberg Digital to digitalize the supply chain in the oil and gas and offshore wind industries. Kongsberg Digital and NSG Digital have collaborated since the beginning of 2017 on developing a new logistics system called NSG E2E.

Emissions Regulations Present Strategic Opportunity

The marine industry as a whole is responsible for about 2.5 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions. Shipbuilders and fleet owners have spent the last two decades adjusting to shifting emissions regulations since the introduction of the MARPOL Convention 1997 Protocol, which included specific regulations for the reduction of air pollution from marine vessels. Since then, there have been additions and amendments to ensure that the industry is doing its bit to better support the environment, with the latest regulation pulling forward lower caps in global emissions.

Marlink Acquires Radio Holland's Connectivity Business

Marlink and Radio Holland have concluded a partnership agreement whereby Marlink has acquired Radio Holland’s connectivity business. According to the partners, the deal strengthens Marlink’s position in maritime VSAT, while Radio Holland will be the preferred global sales and service partner offering Marlink’s satcom connectivity portfolio in combination with its maritime electronics solutions. Furthermore, Radio Holland and the Marlink Group, including Telemar, will intensify their existing cooperation in NavCom sales and servicing.

DNV GL presents GTT and TECHNOLOG with GASA

The classification society DNV GL presented GTT, together with its partner TECHNOLOG, a General Approval for Ship Application (GASA) statement for the retrofit of very large container vessels (VLCVs) with exoskeleton membrane LNG tanks. LNG membrane tanks will generally offer more efficient space utilisation for cargo storage and as fuel tanks. The exoskeleton concept offered by GTT, and developed in partnership with TECHNOLOG, consists of a structure that can be prebuilt on the dock and then installed as a complete unit in the hull of the vessel.

The full-service maritime company chose Cradlepoint for a cost-effective solution that would augment VSAT (satellite) and replace outdated technology to securely connect management to the vessels deployed in waterways all over the globe.

Antwerp Port Focus on Sustainable Modal Shift

The port of Antwerp is to invest 1.4 million euros over the next three years in projects aimed at making port-generated freight traffic smoother and more efficient. The seven projects that have been selected for financial support will together reduce the number of truck trips by up to 250,000 annually. The Flemish government in turn is building on the Call for Proposals by the Port Authority, and in the next few months it will release a further 1.4 million euros for projects to make transport in and around Antwerp more sustainable.
