Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement Chooses eCommerce Solution

Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement, a global leader in Shipmanagement, has in collaboration with WSS chosen MarineLink eCommerce for its SDCs globally. Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement manages a fleet of more than 650 vessels out of which over 300 vessels are under full management. Last year EDB ErgoGroup purchased Wilhelmsen Ships Service's eCommerce solution, MTS, and has integrated it into its advanced eCommerce platform and has already added new functionality for invoice processing and logistics integration.

Thome Ship Management selects MarineLink as its sole eCommerce provider

Thome Ship Management, one of the world’s leading independent international ship managers, has chosen MarineLink eCommerce provided by EDB ErgoGroup as the sole eCommerce provider for its purchasing operations. The three year contract covers its entire fleet of about 150 vessels. E-business solutions are not new to Thome Ship Management, as the group has been using e-business solutions since 2005. In April 2007, Thome Ship Management added the then MTS to their e-business platform.

ABB to Equip AET's New Shuttle Tankers

ABB said it has won an order from Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries to equip two new 125,000 DWT shuttle tankers contracted to the world's largest offshore operator Statoil ASA. Ordered by petroleum and chemical tanker owner and operator AET and scheduled for delivery in 2019, the vessels will transport oil from the Statoil fields on the Norwegian and U.K. continental shelves to land-based terminals. The two twin-skeg specialist DP2 offshore loading shuttle tankers will feature a range of ABB’s power and automation solutions, including the power distribution system Onboard DC Grid.

The companies agree that INTTRA will support APL’s global e-commerce growth strategy, as well as enhance its global customer service offerings. With more than two million container orders initiated on the INTTRA platform each month, INTTRA says it reaches the largest worldwide community of ocean freight buyers with solutions for online, desktop and system-to-system integrations. The INTTRA network includes over 64,000 companies, shipping to and from more than 130 countries. This broad e-commerce reach will enable APL to more quickly and effectively deliver the increased efficiency and cost saving benefits of electronic shipping to customers in all the markets it serves.

P&O Ferries, MTN Transform Sea Travel Communications

P&O Ferries and MTN Communications (MTN) announce the delivery of high-performance Internet connectivity and access to online content through the first Wi-Fi hot spot on the English Channel. This service is now live on the English Channel on ferries serving the P&O Ferries Dover-Calais route. These vessels are reportedly the first ferries in the world connected to the MTN Terrestrial Broadband Network (TBN), in addition to having back-up satellite connectivity, as many cruise ships do today.

Clarksons Bunker Group becomes OceanConnect UK Limited

Clarksons announced that it is increasing its equity share in OceanConnect following OceanConnect's acquisition of the Clarksons Bunker Group. The move adds five professional fuel brokers to OceanConnect's London group, making it one of the largest brokering teams in London. OceanConnect UK Ltd, OceanConnect's London affiliate, will handle all bunker transactions previously serviced by Clarksons Bunker Group. "Clarksons and OceanConnect began a joint marketing and services agreement in March 2001. a superior brokering service. The results were outstanding. By working together, we moved beyond brokering. New Addition to DNV GL’s Veracity Platform

DNV GL will add a new third party software solution to Veracity, its open industry data platform, that is based on cleaned data collected from 80 000 oil and gas wells. AGR, the leading well design and drilling project management firm, has agreed to host its iQx software on the platform, which contains information that is vital to companies selecting locations of wells. Users, such as drilling engineers, can access information on numerous metrics including geology and bit performance, enabling them to make smarter and more efficient operational decisions.

Hamburg Süd Launches Free App

Hamburg Süd has just released a free app for smartphones and tablets that is available for its customers to download. The Hamburg Süd app allows customers to access information about Track & Trace, timetables, offices and news wherever they may be. The new app was developed jointly by Hamburg Süd and the IT consultancy Capgemini. It is available for Android and iOS operating systems in both German and English, and can be downloaded to the operating device from the Google Play Store (Android) or from Apple iTunes (iOS).

Metzger Appointed Managing Director at Geodis Logistics

Andrea Metzger has been appointed Managing Director of Geodis Logistics Northern Europe, an entity grouping the logistics activities of Geodis in Belgium, Germany, Ireland and the Netherlands. Andrea Metzger is a graduate of European Business School. She began her career at Price Waterhouse then moved on to Dyckerhoff AG before joining Geodis in 1999, as Financial Director and then as Managing Director of Geodis Logistics in Germany. Her remit is to consolidate Geodis growth in the strategic region, home to the large ports of the North Sea.

MSC Launches 'myMSC'

MSC has recently launched a new customer portal called ‘myMSC’ which allows you to submit your VGM instructions online and much more. The launch of this portal has been advanced in anticipation of the new SOLAS regulation which comes into effect on the 1st July 2016. MSC will roll out additional functionality over the course of 2016. The portal will offer complete online management of your cargo including; rate requests, bookings, shipping instructions, manifest correctors, notice of arrivals, financial records, schedules, cut-off information, rates of exchange and VGM submission.

BW Fleet Management Selects MarineLink

Oslo based BW Fleet Management have chosen to sign a 3 year “BuyerLink” Service contract with EVRY, to use the MarineLink Service and run in parallel with their other eCommence providers who integrates directly with their Oracle EBS Purchasing application. BW Fleet Management has used the MarineLink service for many years for transactions with Wilhelmsen Ships Service, Alfa Laval and engine manufacturer Wärtsilä. However, this year they decided to split their eCommerce between two service providers, MarineLink from EVRY, being one of the winning suppliers. Head of Global Purchasing at BW, Tor-Egil Gjulem says,  "We have used the MarineLink service for many years, along with ShipServ.

UASC Chooses INTTRA's eVGM Service

With implementation of a new global container weight requirement less than a month away, global carrier United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) has extended its partnership with ocean shipping electronic marketplace INTTRA, to use the INTTRA eVGM Service as a channel to facilitate compliance with the new rule. As of July 1, under the International Maritime Organization's Safety of Life at Sea Verified Gross Mass amendment (SOLAS VGM) as adopted, every container must have a certified weight in order to gain clearance to be loaded onto a ship.

DP World Acquires Cosmos Agencia Maritima in Peru

Dubai-based DP World, , one of the world's largest port operators, said it had bought a logistics firm  Cosmos Agencia Maritima (CAM) in Peru for $315.7 million, giving it a 50 percent stake in the country's second largest container terminal. Wärtsilä and Girocantex Uruguay, a subsidiary of Hidrovias Group, have signed a five-year Optimized Maintenance agreement on the fleet of eight pusher tugs operating in the rivers of South America. The agreement enables flexible maintenance planning and execution according to the real condition of the equipment, thus ensuring better lifecycle value for the vessels. Danish Maritime Authority Conference on EfficienSea2

The Danish Maritime Authority (DMA) is hosting the final conference of the EU-funded digitalisation project EfficienSea2 on the 5th and 6th of April. 32 partners from 12 different countries have been collaborating in the European project EfficienSea2 since 2015 to create a more digital maritime world. The project has focused on developing new communication platforms, international IT-standards and digital services for the maritime world. The project supports the effort recently initiated by the Danish Government through a plan for maritime growth and a digital strategy.

Ontario Accepts Damen’s Electric Ferry Proposal

The Government of Ontario has accepted Damen’s proposal to build two ferries with full electric propulsion. Damen is building a 68-meter Road Ferry 6819 and a 98-meter Road Ferry 9819 to operate in the Canadian waters of the Great Lakes. The vessels will be the first fully electric, non-cable vessels in Canada. As part of the tender process for the contract to build the ferries, Damen was required to identify future innovations and green technologies for sustainable power solutions. The Government of Ontario has accepted Damen’s electrification proposal.

Consortium: Blockchain Solution to Improve Ocean Shipping

A consortium comprising AB InBev, Accenture, APL, Kuehne + Nagel and a European customs organization has successfully tested a blockchain solution that can eliminate the need for printed shipping documents and save the freight and logistics industry hundreds of millions of dollars annually. The consortium tested a solution where documents are no longer exchanged physically or digitally but instead, the relevant data is shared and distributed using blockchain technology under single ownership principles determined by the type of information.

AAPA Announces New Seminar Series

AAPA is finalizing programs and securing industry experts for both the Port Administration Seminar and the Information Technology Seminar. These two important disciplines will be covered thoroughly as independent seminars, coming together for two sessions, one on eCommerce and another on Electronic Policy. These two groups will also come together for continental breakfasts, breaks and lunches. Acta Marine’s Newbuild Completes Sea Trials

The SOV W2W vessel Acta Auriga, currently under construction at Ulstein Verft, Norway for owner Acta Marine, has successfully completed sea trials. The walk-to-work vessel is custom-designed for the offshore energy industry. Together with a 3D crane, SMST gangway and elevator tower, and the X-BOW and X-STERN design solutions, the vessel will break new grounds in workability, in-field agility, offshore logistics and comfort on board for 120 persons combined with a low fuel consumption, the builder said.
