Global engineering and defense technologies provider Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) announced today the promotion of Edmond Hughes to executive vice president and chief human resources officer. Hughes, formerly the vice president of human resources and administration contracts at HII’s Ingalls Shipbuilding division and at Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding since 2006, will replace William “Bill” R. Ingalls Shipbuilding to Fund STEM Projects

America’s largest military shipbuilding company Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) Ingalls Shipbuilding division has awarded $99,592 in grants to 28 STEM-related initiatives from schools and educational organizations in Mississippi and Alabama.According to a press note, this is the program’s 12th year. Ingalls has awarded more than $1 million for science, technology, engineering and mathematics projects during that period.“These projects expose students to innovative concepts, sharpen their critical thinking skills and broaden their understanding of technology-driven professions,” said Edmond Hughes, Ingalls’ vice president of human resources and administration.

Ingalls Awards STEM Grants to Gulf Coast Schools

Huntington Ingalls Industries’ Ingalls Shipbuilding division has awarded more than $102,000 in grants for 28 projects at schools and educational organizations in Mississippi and Alabama. The grants, which were requested by the organizations, will be used for projects associated with science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). This is the seventh year for Ingalls' STEM program. The company has awarded more than $609,000 for STEM-related projects during that period.

Ingalls Shipbuilding Union Inks Contract Extension

Huntington Ingalls Industries announced today that the Pascagoula Metal Trades Council (PMTC) and local chapters of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), United Federation of Special Police and Security Officers (UFSPSO) and Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU) approved an extension of the collective bargaining agreement with the company's Ingalls Shipbuilding division. "This collaboration between management and labor is another example of how we continue to work together to ensure we provide the best opportunities for our shipbuilders and at the same time position our shipyard to compete for future contracts," said Edmond Hughes, Ingalls' vice president, human resources and administration.

HII Annual ‘5K on the Causeway’ Raises $12,000

Huntington Ingalls Industries' informs that its Ingalls Shipbuilding division raised $12,000 for Special Olympics of Mississippi at the company's third annual "5K on the Causeway" on Saturday. "It was a great turnout with more than 700 participants this year," said Edmond Hughes, Ingalls' vice president of human resources and administration. "We have a faithful contingent that continues to return every year, and that demonstrates our employees' dedication to a healthier lifestyle. All of that hard work and enthusiasm creates a very special event that raises money for a very special organization. The money raised by the 5K adds to the $30,000 Ingalls has given to Special Olympics of Mississippi in 2014.

HII Run to Boost Special Olympics of Mississippi Fund

Huntington Ingalls Industries' Ingalls Shipbuilding division informs it will host the company's third annual "5K on the Causeway" on Saturday, Sept. 20. The race will take place on the causeway to Singing River Island, and all proceeds will go to benefit Special Olympics of Mississippi. "We've had a tremendous response for our first two races, and we expect an even bigger turnout for this one," said Edmond Hughes, Ingalls' vice president of human resources and administration. "Our top priority remains the health and safety of our employees. This race is a family-oriented event that promotes a fit and healthier lifestyle. Whether the participants and their families walk or run, it doesn't matter. After the 5K begins at 9 a.m., there will be a one-mile Fun Run at 10 a.m.

Christmas 'Angel Tree' Gifts Donated by HII Employees

Employees from Huntington Ingalls Industries’ Ingalls Shipbuilding division teamed up to provide holiday gifts for 145 children as part of the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program. HII explains that the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program matches donors with children from qualified families unable to provide gifts and clothing for their children during the holidays. The Salvation Army provides a wish list for each angel. This year there were more than 1,500 angels to be adopted. Adopters of the angels purchase all or as many items from the wish list as possible.

Ingalls Shipbuilding brings holiday cheer to communities through employee donations and $15,000 to local food banks. Huntington Ingalls Industries' Ingalls Shipbuilding division and its employees have participated in holiday giving throughout all of the communities on the Gulf Coast. Hundreds of employees worked together to donate money, food, toys and other special items to several different organizations.
