DEME Installs First XXL Monopile for Moray West Offshore Wind Farm

Belgium-based offshore installation services company DEME has installed the first XXL monopile foundation at the 882 MW Moray West offshore wind farm in Scotland.DEME used its Orion offshore installation vessel to complete the task, which is part of its work scope that includes both the installation of monopiles and transition pieces.The company’s jack-up vessel Apollo is also joining the effort, taking care of installing the transition pieces.According to DEME, it is using vibro hammer technology, minimizing the environmental impact from vibrations.Apollo vessel previously demonstrated its ex

US Offshore Wind Projects Seek Looser Subsidy Rules in Fight for Survival

A fleet of U.S. offshore wind projects central to President Joe Biden's climate change agenda may not move forward unless his administration eases requirements for subsidies in the year-old Inflation Reduction Act, according to project developers.Norway's Equinor, France's Engie, Portugal's EDP Renewables, and trade groups representing other developers pursuing U.S. offshore wind projects told Reuters they are pressing officials to rewrite the requirements, and warning of lost jobs and investments otherwise."The components needed for our projects to progress simply do not exist in the U.S.

Cadeler's Wind Orca Jack-up to Install 60 14.7MW Turbines at Moray West Offshore Wind Farm

Offshore wind installation specialist Cadeler has won a contract to install 60 Siemens Gamesa offshore wind turbines off the coast of Scotland.The contract for the installation of the giant SG 14-222 DD offshore wind turbines at the Moray West offshore wind farm comes just after Siemens Gamesa on Thursday announced the firm contract award with Moray West operator for the supply of the 60 turbines.This will be the first time that these 14MW offshore wind turbines will be installed on a commercial scale.The project will be executed by Cadeler’s wind farm installation vessel (WIV), Wind Orca.

WindFloat Atlantic Platform Heads Offshore

The second of the three platforms for the WindFloat Atlantic project has left the Port of Ferrol for its final destination 20 kilometers offshore Viana do Castelo, Portugal.Upon arrival to the project site, it will be installed next to the first floating platform, which has the exact same dimensions: 30 meters in height and with a 50-meter distance between each column. A U.S. government auction for three wind leases off the coast of Massachusetts ended on Friday with record-setting bids totaling more than $400 million from European energy giants including Royal Dutch Shell Plc and Equinor ASA.The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) announced the sale's three winners - Equinor Wind US LLC, Mayflower Wind Energy LLC, and Vineyard Wind LLC, at the conclusion of the two-day sale that attracted 11 bidders and lasted 32 rounds.Mayflower is a joint venture owned by Shell and EDP Renewables, a division of Portugal's EDP.

Japan's largest trading company  Mitsubishi Corporation (MC) announced the divestment of shares in Diamond Green Limited, with 30% to be transferred to The Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc (KEPCO) and 20% to Mitsubishi UFJ Lease & Finance Company Limited (MUL).Diamond Green is an intermediate holding company wholly owned by Diamond Generating Europe, which itself is a wholly owned subsidiary of MC based in the UK. EDP Renewables Opens Wind Farm in Spain

Portuguese renewables company EDP Renewables (EDPR) has inaugurated the Muxía Wind Farm in the homonymous municipality, in the Autonomous Spanish Region of Galicia.A press release from the wind energy producer said that its CEO Jõao Manso Neto and the Managing Director of EDPR Spain were joined at the grand opening by Galician Regional Premier Alberto Núñez Feijóo and the Mayor of Muxía Félix Porto, as well as representatives from the local and regional authorities.The Muxía facility is equipped with thirty-four 2 MW wind turbines, offering a total installed capacity of 68 MW.Including this new wind farm, EDP Renewables now has a total installed capacity in the region of 281 MW…

Calegeo to Perform Survey Work for Moray OWF

Calegeo, a geotechnical focused marine contracting and survey company, will be carrying out geotechnical survey operations on behalf of Moray Offshore Renewables Ltd in the Outer Moray Firth, as part of the Moray OWF project. The company will utilise their DP2  geotechnical vessel, MV Highland Spirit, starting works mid June. The work comprises a series of geotechnical boreholes and seabed CPTs to evaluate foundation conditions for the wind turbine generator bases. The wind farm is located 22 kilometers offshore in the Outer Moray Firth.

Neoen Marine Joins Offshore France Wind Consortium

GDF SUEZ and EDP Renewables have been joined by French coastal region experts Neoen Marine to tender for a new offshore wind farm development, and at the same time to contribute to the development of offshore wind energy in France and the structuring of an industrial sector. The tender relates to the installation of 1,000 MW of wind turbines off the French coast near Le Tréport (Haute-Normandie – 500 MW) and the islands of Yeu and Noirmoutier (Pays de la Loire – 500 MW) by 2020. The offers will be assessed by the French government based on technical, financial, industrial, social and environmental criteria.
