Fireboy-Xintex Brings New Tech to IBEX

Fireboy-Xintex said it will exhibit its latest technology developments at The International BoatBuilders’ Exhibition and Conference (IBEX), including newly released carbon monoxide alarm system as well as a new series of fire suppression systems. At IBEX, to be held October 4-6, 2016 at the Tampa Convention Center, Fireboy-Xintex is releasing its new CMD5-M Carbon Monoxide Alarm, which features an electrochemical sensor, compact design and a version that requires no external power to be fully functional.

Oily Wastewater Transformed with WETT-O

Terragon Environmental Technologies has been developing the Wastewater Electrochemical Treatment Technology for oily water, or simply WETT-O, for the past six years. WETT-O uses an electrochemical process to transform oily wastewater into reusable or dischargeable water depending on the application. WETT-O uses electrochemistry and does not require filters, membranes, chemicals or biological treatment commonly found in alternative approaches. Terragon’s proprietary Electrocoagulation (EC) cartridge employs sacrificial anodes and electricity which release ions that act as coagulants.

Port of Rotterdam, IBM to Build a Connected, Smart Port of the Future

The Port of Rotterdam Authority and IBM has announced their collaboration on a multi-year digitization initiative to transform the port’s operational environment using Internet of Things (IoT) technologies in the cloud to benefit the port and those who use it. The initiative will also prepare the Port of Rotterdam’s entire 42-kilometer site to host connected ships in the future. It begins with the development of a centralized dashboard application that will collect and process real-time water (hydro), weather (meteo) sensor data and communications data, analysed through the IBM IoT platform.

Terion Launches FleetView 3T

Terion launched FleetView 3T -- a product line extension specifically designed for managing tanker trailers. The FleetView 3 technology platform was developed to accommodate all kinds of asset types and to support many different sensors. The product is designed to gather information from cargo sensors, door sensors, Tractor ID devices, tire pressure sensors, and gas pressure sensors. The product communicates real-time trailer location and event status when the trailer is tethered or untethered, and provides an accurate record of loaded or unloaded status by way of a patented Cargo Sensor.

New Technology for Submarine Wireless Battery Monitoring

The German navigation specialist Raytheon Anschütz introduces a newly developed wireless battery monitoring technology. The core of the system is a new sensor that features an innovative measurement concept to provide highest failure safety while contributing to cost savings during installation and servicing. Raytheon Anschütz, as a subsidiary of the Raytheon Company, presents a wireless battery monitoring demonstration at this year’s UDT in London. The Wireless Battery Monitoring System (WBMS) is the central measuring and evaluation system for main batteries aboard submarines.

WaveSentry Sea-State Project in Progress

Chelsea Sensor equipment to be fitted to French ferry to progress WaveSentry sea-state forecasting project. Novel sensors, provided by the Chelsea Technologies Group are to be fitted to a cross-channel ferry to collect vessel motion data as part of the WaveSentry project which is being managed by Marine South East. This motion data will be processed to derive certain indirect sea-state measurements which will be merged with a range of other data feeds within the WaveSentry sea-state measurement and forecasting system.

TE Connectivity Expands Sensors Offering with AST

TE Connectivity Ltd, a world leader in connectivity, today announced that it has completed the acquisition of American Sensor Technologies, Inc., a manufacturer of pressure and position sensing solutions with 2013 revenues of approximately $20 million. The acquisition further expands TE’s growing portfolio of sensors and sensor systems. AST specializes in manufacturing products incorporating their proprietary technologies for use in high performance, harsh and extreme environments such as high corrosion, high and low temperatures, and toxic and hazardous materials settings. AST’s products serve several industries including marine and offshore oil and gas, energy and power generation, industrial controls, aerospace and defense, and industrial and commercial transportation.

RCH Engineers New Steering System

Rio Controls & Hydraulics (RCH) said it has developed a new steering system by modifying existing inductive sensors used in the oil and gas industry to reach a design that the company said will provide accurate and longer lasting sensor command and feedback signals. This technology aims to replace conventional devices such as potentiometers, as RCH claims its system offers many advantages over traditional steering. •    Inductive Technology has no moving parts, so the lifecycle when compared to the conventional technology is extended from an estimated 2.5 years to over 120 years.

Without an effective solution, people have historically had to accept the limits biofouling imposes on ocean sensing work, with significant repercussions. When instrumentation is deployed in-situ, the value of the data taken during the deployment corresponds with the longevity: information gleaned from a longer deployment is often more useful than information from one of a shorter term.

Revised G8 Certificate for Alfa Laval PureBallast 3

PureBallast 3, the third generation ballast water treatment technology from Swedish manufacturer Alfa Laval, is the first solution to be type approved according to the revised IMO G8 testing requirements. DNV GL, acting on behalf of the Norwegian Maritime Authority, issued an updated type approval certificate on February 2, making Alfa Laval the first supplier compliant with the revised G8 demands. EDO to Supply Israeli Navy with Sonar System

EDO Corporation received a contract from the Israeli Navy to purchase its advanced-technology ALOFTS undersea-warfare sensor. ALOFTS was selected based upon the Israeli Navy's past experience with EDO's sonar systems and after a thorough review of ALOFTS' specifications and capabilities. The contract is valued at more than $7 million, plus options for additional systems. The EDO Model 980 ALOFTS system is a low-frequency, active, towed-array system that represents the latest, most advanced sonar technology. It provides a long-range sensor capability that will counter the threat of extremely quiet submarines operating in either shallow or deep water.

ClassNK, IHIMU, DU, and IBM Japan to Develop Software

ClassNK, IHI Marine United (IHIMU), Diesel United (DU) and IBM Japan have announced they will jointly develop a ship maintenance management system to help reduce ship lifecycle cost. The jointly developed system, which will make use of the latest condition monitoring sensor technology and data analysis systems, will be offered by ClassNK as a cloud-based service to shipowners, managers and operators from June 2013. As ships face dramatically changing ocean conditions, appropriate maintenance and condition monitoring of on-board machinery is essential to ensuring smooth operations. The Digital Future of Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensors

CMR Group’s chief technical officer, Patrice Flot, considers the current approach to sensing exhaust gas temperature (EGT) on high horsepower engine platforms and the capabilities provided by new digital technology. An EGT sensor measures the temperature of the engine exhaust gas to prevent damage to critical components such as the after treatment system, turbines and cylinder head exhaust valves. It can also be used inside the combustion chambers where hot gases are generated.
