De Nora Wins Contract for BWTS Retrofits

De Nora, a supplier of equipment for seawater electrochlorination, said it has been awarded a contract to provide its BALPURE ballast water management system by one of North America’s major oil tanker operators. The BALPURE Twin BP3000-C systems, capable of treating ballast water flow rates up to 6,000m3/h,  will be retrofitted in five crude oil tankers ranging in size from 125,000 DWT to 141,740 DWT. The installations will take place from mid-2016 to 2018. BALPURE utilizes electrolytic disinfection technology to provide ballast water management. In addition to being IMO Type-Approved and USCG AMS-Certified, the system has been Bureau Veritas Type-Approved and ABS Design Assessed.

U.S. Coast Guard Accepts Nine BWTS as AMS

Followers of the Ballast Water Treatement System (BWTS) situation (ie. presumably anyone reading this publication) were heartened last month when the U.S Coast Guard announced its acceptance of nine BWTS as Alternate Management Systems (AMS), helping to finally bring some clarity to ship owners, yards and suppliers. On April 15, 2013, the USCG announced the acceptance of the ballast water treatment systems as AMS in compliance with the service’s March 2012 final rule for Standards for Living Organisms in Ships’ Ballast Water Discharged (SLOSBWD) in U.S. waters.

Balpure BWTS Receives USCG Certification

The IMO Type-Approved Balpure ballast water treatment system from Severn Trent De Nora has become one of the first ballast water treatment technologies to receive the United States Coast Guard’s (USCG) Alternate Management System (AMS) certification. AMS certification identifies an IMO Type-Approved system that meets the USCG requirements. Mariner Omnipure M55 Selected for Australian Patrol Boats

The Mariner Omnipure sewage treatment system from Severn Trent De Nora has been installed on Cape St George, a new patrol boat designed and constructed by Austal for the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service. Cape St George is the first in a series of eight patrol boats to be delivered to the owners between March 2013 and February 2015, which will all be outfitted with the Mariner Omnipure M5508 system. The contract was secured through HMA-POGC of Australia. The new Cape Class patrol fleet was designed and constructed by Austal, a global defense prime contractor.

BALPURE BWTS Earns BV Type Approval

The Type-Approved BALPURE ballast water treatment system from Severn Trent De Nora has received type approval from classification society Bureau Veritas (BV) for its full range of standard ballast water treatment systems that can treat ballast water flow rates of up to 5,000 m3/h. Standard systems can be supplied as multiple sets to treat higher flow rates. The type approval was granted by BV following stringent review of the BALPURE system per BV rules and guidelines along with the guidelines contained in the IMO Resolution MEPC.174(58).

World’s First Offshore Barge with Built-in BWTS

The BALPURE ballast water treatment system, which received Type Approval in July 2011, has been selected for use on two flattop oceangoing heavy deck cargo barges. The Type-Approved BALPURE ballast water treatment system from Severn Trent De Nora has been selected for use on two oceangoing heavy deck cargo barges being constructed for Norwegian-based Greenway Shipping by Dalian Shipyard, at its shipyard in Dalian, China. The 9,025 dwt oceangoing barges will reportedly be the first new offshore barges to install the BALPURE system.
