Damen to Build Robert Allan Designed Rotor Tugs
Two new ART 80-32class Rotor tugs, the first vessels designed for KST B.V. under the recent agreement naming Robert Allan Ltd. as the exclusive designer of Rotor tugs, are to be built by the Damen Shipyards group for owners Elizabeth Ltd. This is the first time that the Damen Group will build a design from Robert Allan Ltd. Kotug has provided significant input into the requirements for this design, and Robert Allan Ltd., has developed a unique, customized design optimized for their operations.
Tugboat Design Contract for Robert Allan Ltd.
Robert Allan Ltd is designing a new ART 80-32 Rotor®tug for Elizabeth Ltd charter to Kotug. This newly designed harbor tug will be chartered by Kotug, the Rotterdam, Hamburg and Bremerhaven based tugboat operator. The Rotor®tugs are 32 meters long and have a bollard pull of minimum 80 tons over the stern and the bow. It is the intention of Elizabeth Ltd to place a new building order for 4 of these tugs. At this stage it is not revealed where the Rotor®tugs will be deployed. The new design is a direct result of the co-operation between Robert Allan Ltd and Rotor®tug.
Damen Shipyards Delivers Three Tugs to KOTUG
KOTUG will shortly be putting three Damen ASD 2810 tugs into operation. These tugs were ordered by Elizabeth Ltd. in Malta and are being chartered by KOTUG, both part of the Kooren Maritime Services Group (KMS). Two tugs are being used in the port of Rotterdam, and the third will see service in the port of Hamburg. It’s the first time that Damen Shipyards has built tugs for the KMS Group. Damen Shipyards and KOTUG have built up a good relationship over the years. “We have long known Damen as a repair yard, and now we know it as a shipyard as well,” said Ard-Jan Kooren, CEO of KOTUG.
