New Simulator Operators Training Course

eMaritime group have written a new five-day Simulator Operators Training Course (SOTC) and will launch it with a free one-off session from June 19-23, 2017 at eMaritime Group HQ, Whiteley, Hampshire. The SOTC course has been written to give those who wish to teach on a maritime simulator the necessary skills, teaching techniques and aids within a standard bridge simulator environment. The course is generic to simulator training in general and so can be applied to any make or model of simulator.

Marine Ops Risk Guide in Progress

The U.S. Coast Guard is in the process of issuing its Marine Operations Risk Guide. HazMat Response Handbook Available

The U.S. Coast Guard released its Hazardous Materials Response Special Teams Capabilities and Contact Handbook. The thick document provides guidance on occupational health and safety, salvage capability, spill containment and recovery, environmental assessment, and analysis, among other things. Transas HQ Moved to Ireland

U.S. Navy Proposes Five Year Charter of Fleet Salvage Tug

The Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) is planning to lease/(bareboat charter) the fleet salvage tug USNS Narragansett (T-ATF 167) to a U.S. company that can show that it will use the Narragansett to support offshore salvage facilities. The vessel will be leased on an "As Is, Where Is" basis. The 226 ft., 7,200 hp Narragansett is currently in classification with ABS, is under continuous survey, and has a Certificate of Inspection (COI) issued by the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG). The successful lessee must acquire and maintain its own current and updated ABS class certifications, USCG certificate of inspection, adequate insurance, and demonstrate that it can adequately maintain and operate the vessel over the a proposed five year lease period. The vessel will be in use by the U.S.

The Coast Guard has updated security targeting information for foreign flag vessels, which includes a vessel’s flag state administration and last five port of calls. The revised information is provided on the following web site: http://www.uscg.mil/hq/g-m/pscweb/index.htm. The information for flag states and recognized security organizations will be updated monthly until the end of the year. Targeting statistics will be compiled annually and published in an annual report starting in 2005. Flag administrations whose names appear on the targeted flag state list have demonstrated a below average compliance rate in the United States for security since July 1. Foreign vessels flying these flags can expect increased scrutiny and boardings based on this information.

Maritime software solutions provider Oceans HQ Ltd has announced a partnership with the Gibraltar Ship Registry (part of the Gibraltar Maritime Administration), ahead of new STCW requirements for online access to seafarer certification data which come into force in 2017. Transas Opens New Office

In December 2003, the Transas R&D center in St.Petersburg, Russia, changed its location. The new office occupies a five-story modern building situated in the Vasilievskiy Island, one of the most beautiful areas of the St. Petersburg city. Oceans HQ, a  provider of specialized software to the world’s Maritime Administrations, has signed an agreement to deliver a new digital Vessel Registration system to the U.K. Maritime and Coastguard Agency. The new digital platform forms a key component of the MCA’s 2016/17 business plan and is critical to its digital strategy which is designed to improve the way it provides a range of services. Oceans HQ has partnered with Thoughtbot London to deliver a modern software solution inspired by its Vessel HQ product, already in operation at a number of Flag States.

Shipping Magnate Maersk Moller Dies

The AP Moller-Maersk group operates Maersk Line, the world’s biggest container shipper. Its business also includes offshore oil and gas activities and retail and shipyard operations. Mr. Moller's last public appearance was at the firm’s annual general meeting last week. Known to all as 'Mr. Moller', he took over the leadership of the group in 1965, following his father’s death that year. He left daily management in 1993, and was chairman of AP Moller-Maersk A/S until 2003. Mr. Moller is survived by three daughters. His wife Emma Neergaard Rasmussen, whom he married in 1940, died in 2005.

ABS Established MidEast HQ in Qatar

ABS announces the establishment of a new Middle East Region headquarters in Doha, Qatar. By locating the administrative and commercial functions for the entire region of Doha, ABS is further strengthening its ties to the energy sector, particularly the growing production and shipment of LNG from Qatar. “The new location strategically positions us to better service our oil and gas clients while still providing the attention and survey service our shipping clients in the region have come to rely on,” says ABS Europe President Antonio Lino Costa. “The ABS Dubai office will continue to provide survey services, particularly those required by clients and shipyards in the region,” he added.

Performance Assessment of Alternative Tanker Designs

The U.S. Coast Guard is making available the Environmental Equivalency Evaluation Index (EEEI), which is intended to establish a methodology to assess the oil outflow performance of alternative designs to the double hull tanker. The EEEI consists of a number of modifications to the revised interim guidelines for approval of alternative double hull designs promulgated by the IMO in Res. MEPC.110(49). The EEEI represents a major step forward in freeing innovation from the double-hull strait jacket imposed by OPA 90. 70 Fed. Global To Open Offshore HQ

Global Industries will significantly expand its capacity to meet operators' deepwater and reel pipelay needs in the Gulf of Mexico this December with the opening of its 625-acre offshore construction headquarters in Carlyss, La. Chosen because of its location along the 40 ft. (12.1 m) deep Calcasieu Ship Channel - the site is capable of supporting Global's deepwater fleet - and includes a pipe assembly rack that measure more than half a mile long. As a result of this new facility, Global closed both its Houma and Lafayette, La. facilities in late October to consolidate its offshore operations in Carlyss.

Okeanus to Represent MacArtney Group in Brazil

Underwater technology provider MacArtney Group has signed an agreement with Okeanus Ltda. to be the group's official representative in the Brazilian market, MacArtney Group announced today. Bauzá New Lead of EU Anti-Piracy Campaign

On 11 Dec 2009, Rear Admiral Thorsten Kaehler (German Navy) handed over the responsibility of Deputy Operation Commander of the European Union Naval Force Somalia Operation ATALANTA, the EU anti-piracy campaign in the Horn of Africa area, to Rear Admiral Bartolomé Bauzá (Spanish navy). The handover was conducted in the Operational Headquarters in Northwood near London. Rear Admiral Bartolomé Bauzá, prior to his new task, had assignments in Joint HQ, Fleet HQ, and Navy HQ (his last tour as DACOS Plans & Policy and Head of the Strategic Planning Branch).
