Brazil Orders Four Naval Frigates

A consortium formed by Germany’s Thyssenkrupp AG and Brazilian planemaker Embraer SA signed a deal on Thursday to deliver four frigates to Brazil’s navy between 2025 and 2028, the companies said in a statement.The contract signed in Rio de Janeiro is part of Brazil’s drive to modernize its navy so it can patrol off-shore resources in the Atlantic, such as Brazil’s vast pre-salt oil reserves.The companies did not disclose the price tag. ST Engineering 2Q 2014 Unaudited Results

Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd (ST Engineering) announced today that the Group posted quarterly revenue of $1.59b for the second quarter ended 30 June 2014 (2Q2014), which is comparable with the prior year’s revenue in the same period. The Land Systems sector saw lower revenue due to fewer deliveries in its Automotive business group in the second quarter. The other three sectors - Aerospace, Electronics and Marine registered growth of between 6% and 12% year-on-year. In 2Q2014, all sectors except for the Electronics sector, recorded lower profit before tax (PBT) resulting in a 12% drop in Group PBT to $163.7m from $186.9m in the same period last year.

China, Brazil Close Plane, Finance, Infrastructure Deals

China and Brazil sealed their expanding commercial partnership on Thursday with a $5 billion credit line for Brazilian miner Vale and the purchase of 60 passenger jets from Brazilian planemaker Embraer. In a raft of energy, finance and industry accords signed before presidents Xi Jinping and Dilma Rousseff, the two nations agreed to join forces to build railways to help Brazil cut its infrastructure deficit and feed China's appetite for commodities. Trade between China and Brazil soared to $83.3 billion last year from $3.2 billion in 2002, with iron ore, soy and oil making up the bulk of Brazilian exports, making China the South American nation's biggest trade partner.

China Seeks to Build Shipping Railways in Brazil

Brazil hopes that during a visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping it can boost ties with its biggest trade partner beyond the exchange of commodities for manufactured goods, but that may be wishful thinking. Accords China will sign with Brazil when Xi meets with President Dilma Rousseff on Thursday focus on improving infrastructure to make sure raw materials China is hungry for make it to port, with railways a top priority. Brazilian officials are portraying Xi's state visit as a milestone in deepening a strategic partnership that will lead to Chinese investments in Brazil's manufacturing industry. SENER Opens Office in Brazil

The engineering and technology group SENER has opened an office in São Paulo, Brazil. SENER thus establishes an operating and permanent division in this Latin American country, made up of about 300 Brazilian professionals specialized in engineering and construction that will carry out projects in the fields of Power and Process, Civil engineering and Architecture, Aerospace and Marine engineering. Furthermore, SENER premises in Brazil also include an office in Rio de Janeiro.
