Forewind Spends to Make North Sea Wind Zone a Reality
The latest seabed survey of the Dogger Bank offshore wind zone takes the cost of the Forewind consortium's spend on offshore surveys to almost £45 million. Fugro EMU Aims High in Marine Environmental Sector
The merger earlier this year of Fugro's three UK-based environmental service providers to form Fugro EMU made it the largest organisation in the UK. Fugro EMU Limited, the largest commercial marine environmental services organisation in the UK, employs in excess of 220 staff with expertise in oil and gas, renewables, aggregates, ports and harbours, cables and pipelines. Fugro Acquires EMU Limited to Advance Growth
Fugro has acquired EMU Limited to advance growth in marine environmental survey and consultancy. EMU is an independent marine survey and environmental consultancy specialist. Based in Southampton, it also has UK premises in Portsmouth and Edinburgh; in Dinard, France; and Perth, Australia. The company conducts ecological, geophysical, sediment sampling and hydrographical surveys, laboratory analysis, and provides environmental consulting and reporting services. It currently employs 150 surveyors, oceanographers and marine environmental scientists. EMU has a broad client base in the oil and gas, renewables, engineering contracting, marine aggregate and government markets. The company will further internationalize its business, supported by Fugro’s global network.
EMU to Study Coastal Defense Structures
EMU Limited announces biodiversity and coastal defense engineering research. Marine consultancy and survey specialists EMU Limited, will collaborate with global engineering consultancy Arup and the Russell Group, University of Southampton on research into using sustainable engineering to further the ecosystem services offered by intertidal communities living on coastal defence structures. The work will seek to achieve engineering for biodiversity and biodiversity for engineering.
EMU Geotechnical Services put to Test
EMU Limited’s newly expanded geotechnical services were put to the test recently when the company successfully completed more than 1000 cone penetration tests along the cable routes of a number of proposed offshore wind farms in Germany. Equipped with the most up-to-date marine soil investigation technology on the market, EMU’s geotechnical offering includes three and six metre variable frequency vibrocorers, Datem Neptune 5000 heavyweight CPTs, gravity and piston corers and a number of various sediment sampling grabs.
EMU Receives Hydrographic Survey Contract
The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) has awarded marine survey specialists EMU Limited (EMU) a multi-million pound hydrographic contract as part of its program to systematically survey the waters around the UK. The EMU contract will cover the Shallow Water Lot of the MCA’s Civil Hydrography Program, which aims to gather accurate hydrographic information for updating United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO) nautical charts and publications. The work will focus on eight main coastal offshore regions around the UK.
EMU Appoints Justine Saunders
Marine consent and survey consultancy EMU Limited (EMU) has announced the appointment of a new Principal Consultant to head its expanding marine policy team. Justine Saunders, who has more than 14 years experience with the sustainable development of the marine environment, joined EMU this month to focus on the organization’s marine planning and policy objectives. Saunders' most recent work involved project managing a study to prepare Business as Usual Scenarios for the marine environment under the Marine Strategy Framework Directive.
