Poland Preps Wind Energy Agreement
The Polish Wind Energy Association (PWEA) and the Polish Offshore Wind Energy Society (PTMEW) have announced plans to form a cooperation agreement for offshore wind energy in Poland modeled on the UK's Offshore Wind Sector Deal concluded in March 2019.The bodies together with their Members established cooperation in order to elaborate multilateral 'Declaration of Cooperation for Polish Offshore Wind Energy Sector Development' to be signed by three parties: government/administration, OWF investors and supply chain.The draft declaration is inspired by British 'Offshore Wind Sector Deal' signed in March 2019. Dutch Deal on Inland Shipping GHG
Declaration of Nijmegen was signed by the inland shipping sector, along with Minister Van Nieuwenhuizen (Infrastructure and Water Management) on Friday (April 13). This agreement reflects the commitment of the sector to expending its best efforts to expedite the greening process in the years ahead. The goal is to uphold its competitiveness vis-à-vis road and rail transport, and to reduce CO2 emissions by 20 per cent by 2030. ‘Inland shipping has a substantial lead if you compare its CO2 emissions to those of trucks and trains. In order to retain this lead, inland vessels need to convert to even cleaner engines and fuels,’ to quote Minister Van Nieuwenhuizen. ‘A vessel gives some forty years of service, whereas trucks are obsolete after no more than six or seven years.
Total Seeking to Buy Stake in Iranian LNG Project
French oil giant Total held talks with Iranian officials about several projects in the country in 2016, notably a 10 million tonnes per year liquefied natural gas project (LNG), Reuters reported. It has signed an agreement with Iranian authorities for a 50 per cent stake in Iran’s South Pars gas field project which will developed at an investment of $4 billion. Sources told Reuters in February that Total was in talks to buy a multi-billion dollar stake in Iran's partly-built LNG export facility. Total signed a preliminary deal for the South Pars project last year, becoming the first Western oil major to sign an energy agreement after the European Union and the United States eased sanctions against Iran.
Vattenfall Wins Danish Wind Project
Swedish utility Vattenfall has won a tender to build Denmark's biggest offshore wind farm, but still faces the potential cancellation of a separate wind project in the country, the Danish energy ministry said on Wednesday. Vattenfall won the 600 megawatt Kriegers Flak wind farm tender with a bid of 49.9 euros per megawatt hour, following its victory in September for a 350 megawatt near-shore wind farm off the western coast of Denmark. Denmark's minority government, however, said in September it intended to cancel the near-shore project because the cost of renewable energy subsidies have soared due to low power market prices. Offshore Wind Turbines for MHI Vestas Offshore
MHI Vestas Offshore Wind A/S, a JV between Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) and Vestas Wind Systems A/S, has reached a conditional agreement with Skovgaard Invest ApS and Energicenter Nord for the purchase of four V164-8.0 MW offshore wind turbines for the Velling Mærsk project in Western Denmark. The agreement allows for phase two (0-series) of development for the world’s most powerful offshore wind turbine to commence. The Velling Mærsk project will use the 0-series of the V164-8.0 MW, with the main purpose being to test the installation methods and operation & maintenance procedures of the turbine onshore prior to the commencement of serial deliveries offshore.
Van Oord’s offshore installation vessel Aeolus is operational
Van Oord is holding a two-day event along the Rotterdam Wilhelminakade quay to mark the entry into service of Aeolus, its first transport and installation vessel for the construction of offshore wind farms. Today, business relations have the opportunity to inspect the vessel. On Saturday 21 June, Mrs K. Aboutaleb-Erahoutan, wife of the Mayor of Rotterdam, will be naming the vessel in the presence of guests and Van Oord staff. The vessel was built at Sietas, a German shipbuilding yard in Hamburg. The innovative and advanced transport and installation vessel has a length of 139 m, 38 m in the beam, a design draught of 5.7 m and a cruising speed of 12 knots. The vessel is equipped with a crane that can lift more than 900 tonnes and has accommodation facilities for 75 crew.
