Wave-generated power could be considered the Rodney Dangerfield of offshore renewable energy sources; it gets no respect. There have been a number of high-profile, expensive failures that have conspired to give the sector a poor reputation despite a number of engineering advances. A new entrant is SurfWEC offering a patented “surf-making” Wave Energy Converter which has been in development since 2007. Its developers promise it will stand out from the field and perform where others have failed. How?

RWE Dea's 'The Breagh Story' Wins Film Awards In Houston, Hamburg

At the WorldFest 2014 International Film Festival in Houston, RWE Dea won the platinum award in the documentary category with “The Breagh Story”. The film also won the silver award in the energy category at this year’s WorldMedia Festival held in Hamburg. The documentary tells the story of one of RWE Dea’s largest projects – from the exploration of the Breagh gas discovery and the installation of the production platform, all the way through to first gas produced in October 2013. “Breagh was one of the most demanding projects ever undertaken by RWE Dea, both in terms of its timeline and because of the engineering challenges involved,” explained Rene Pawel, Senior Vice President Production Europe RWE Dea AG.

Tognum Honors Best Suppliers

This is the seventh year that Tognum has given accolades for outstanding achievements, but the first year in which there have been five categories. The awards were presented by Dr. Ulrich Dohle, Tognum executive board member responsible for Technology & Operations, and Erik Manning, head of purchasing at Tognum, accompanied by the relevant departmental managers. “The Supplier Award is a mark of outstanding achievement and quality,” Dohle emphasized. For the second year in succession, the award for best supplier of finished parts was won by Maschinenfabrik Spaichingen from Baden-Württemberg (Germany). They have been supplying the Tognum Group with control elements for MTU Series 4000 engines for many years.
