APL Wins Green Ship of the Year Award

APL clinched the inaugural Green Ship of the Year award at the 2013 International Maritime Awards organized by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore here this evening. The APL Yangshan, a 10,700-TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit) container ship built in 2012 currently plying the Asia-Europe trade, was singled out for its outstanding energy efficiency and performance. “We are very honored to be presented the award, and to be accorded strong industry recognition of the environmental benchmark that APL has set,” said Kenneth Glenn, APL President.

Tecnitas Launches Energy Management Software Tool

Tecnitas, the consultancy arm of Bureau Veritas, has launched a powerful new software tool, E2, aimed at optimising energy usage for both individual ships and across fleets. E2 is a user-friendly tool which enables shipowners to maximise the gains in energy efficiency and emission reduction which can be obtained through proper use of IMO’s Ship Energy Efficiency Monitoring Plan (SEEMP). SEEMP Manual Published

BIMCO releases ‘The Step-by-Step Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP) Manual’ in association with Fathom. The manual, which can be utilized as a ship’s official Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP), has been developed to enable ship owners to plan, manage and document the energy efficiency performance of their ships. SEEMP regulation becomes mandatory from January 2013. “BIMCO supported the SEEMP regulation to enable ship-owners to better optimise their energy consumption.
