First China-built Dual-fuel Methanol Powered Tanker Starts Sea Trials

Guangzhou Shipyard International  (GSI) has started sea trials of the Stena Pro Patria, the first methanol-powered dual-fuel tanker constructed in China in what has been described as a 'watershed moment' in the development of methanol as an alternative fuel for medium-range tankers.GSI signed the deal to build three 49,990 dual-fuel DWT tankers with Proman Stena Bulk, a joint venture between Sweden-based Stena Bulk AB and Switzerland headquartered Proman in 2019. Proman Stena Bulk Orders Another Methanol-powered Vessel

Proman Stena Bulk, a joint venture between Proman Shipping and Stena Bulk, has agreed to build an additional vessel, the methanol-powered Stena Prosperous.The joint venture in November 2019 signed a deal with Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) in China to build two IMOIIMeMAX methanol-ready 49,900 DWT vessels, with the first vessel due for delivery at the beginning of 2022. Now, the company will add another vessel, the Stena Prosperous. which will join the Stena ProPatria and the Stena ProMare in the Proman Stena fleet in the second half of 2022.

Danish Maritime Authority to Study Unmanned Shipping

Many believe that masterless ships may become reality within a very short period of time. Surely, the technology for unmanned ships is coming, yet it remains unknown exactly where, when and to what extent. Now, the Danish Maritime Authority (DMA), together with the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), is seeking the answers for these unknowns by launching a prestudy on autonomous ships. DMA said the purpose of its cooperation with the DTU is, firstly, to increase the common knowledge base and to set the preliminary frames so that the development and use of unmanned ships can come about in an appropriate manner. Springfield Shipping Extends Work with Eniram

Imabari to Build 20,000TEU Containerships

Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. announced it has secured newbuild orders with the cooperation of Marubeni Corporation for 11 units of 20,000TEU Ultra-Large Container Carriers, the largest type containerships in the world as of today. The new ships, the first of which is scheduled to be completed in early 2018, will measure approximately 400 meters in length with about 59 meters breadth. The newbuilding vessels have been developed for overseas shipowners, fully adopting eco-friendly feature and most advanced energy efficiency technology, the builder said. Imabari has built more than 200 container carriers, including the 4,800TEU Over-Panamax type in 1995 that was then the largest in the world, as well as the 8,100TEU type in 2008.

Imabari Bags Order for 11 ULCCs

Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (Imabari), with the cooperation of Marubeni Corporation, has secured newbuilding order for eleven (11) units of 20,000TEU Ultra-Large Container Carriers, the largest type container carriers in the world as of today. These state of the art newbuilding vessels have been developed for overseas ship-owners, fully adopting eco-friendly feature and most advanced energy efficiency technology. She has dimensions of about 400m in length with about 59m breadth. The first vessel is scheduled to be completed in early 2018. Imabari is very proud of having built over 200 container carriers, including 4,800TEU Over-Panamax type in 1995 that was the largest in the world at that time, and 8,100TEU type in 2008.

STX Wins Seaspan Ferry Design Contract

STX Marine (STXM) has been awarded the contract for the engineering package for Seaspan Ferry Corporation’s fleet replacement program. The completed concept design will form part of a bid package, expected to be released to shipyards for tender in July 2013. The new design will feature a 60 trailer capacity, service speed of 14 knots and a planned 40 year service life. STXM will be examining the latest propulsion technology and energy efficiency technology for incorporation into the design. In addition, the design will include a modern comfortable facility for crew and drivers.
