New Research on Combined Use of Hydrogen Fuel Cells and Batteries in Vessel Propulsion

Corvus Energy announced it has been selected to lead an IPN project – a program funded by the Research Council of Norway to promote innovation in the industry. Corvus Energy joins forces with research institute NORCE and other partners for the project which has been awarded 13,9 million NOK in funding.The industrial project, titled “Optimized Hydrogen Powered Maritime Mobility” or “OptHyMob” for short, will improve operations of hydrogen-driven marine vessels in order to reduce costs and extend the lifetime of both the hydrogen fuel cells and the batteries in hybrid configurations.

REM Offshore's Wind Service Vessel to Feature NES Technology

Havyard Group's subsidiary Norwegian Electric Systems (NES) has won a contract to deliver energy design and smart control solution to Rem Offshore’s new vessel for the offshore wind service market. The contract was awarded by Green Yard Kleven who is building the vessel.According to NES, the vessel will be the first in this segment with a fully-integrated NES bridge system. REM Offshore Orders Offshore Wind Vessel

Norwegian offshore vessel operator Rem Offshore has ordered a Construction Service Vessel for offshore wind operations from Green Yard Kleven shipyard in Ulsteinvik.Havyard Design & Solutions AS is responsible for the design. The vessel, which was originally designed as a Havyard 833 WE platform supply vessel PSV, will be converted into a service vessel for offshore wind, under the Havyard 833 CSV design. GIA Expands Membership

The Panama Canal Authority and A.P. Moller – Maersk A/S are the latest entities to join the International Maritime Organization (IMO)-supported Global Industry Alliance to Support Low Carbon Shipping (GIA).According to the UN body, the GIA now has 18 members, including leading shipowners and operators, classification societies, engine and technology builders and suppliers, big data providers, oil companies and ports.The new members signed up to the GIA during the fifth meeting of the GIA Taskforce at IMO Headquarters in London, United Kingdom (15 March).The GIA Taskforce meeting (photos) progressed work on several on-going projects, including on the validation of performance of Energy Efficiency Technologies…

About 40 European river cruise vessels are or will be equipped with a SCHOTTEL propulsion concept with four SCHOTTEL Twin Propellers STP 200. The concept was specifically designed for river cruise ships, and in five years has consistently gained acceptance with its numerous advantages such as low-noise, shallow draught, increased overall efficiency and energy efficient operation, SCHOTTEL said. When Gustaf de Laval read in 1877 an article in the German periodical ”Milchzeitung” (Milk News Paper) about centrifugal separators, he certainly did not expect that it would lead to his founding of a global acting company with around 16,400 employees nearly 140 years later. His first continuous separator, with a capacity of 130 liters per hour, was demonstrated 1879 in Stockholm; and four years later, in 1883, he and his partner, Oscar Lamm, established the company AB Separator.

The latest version of ECO-Assistant, the trim optimisation tool from FutureShip, the maritime consulting arm of Germanischer Lloyd, incorporates a number of new features, including a fuel consumption calculator, system usage monitoring, benefit reporting and an E-learning module to speed familiarity with the system. Polarcus receive the world’s first-ever DNV Level 1 Triple-E™ rating for its fleet of sesimic survey vessels. Triple-E™ is a voluntary environmental rating scheme for ships with a rating from Level 4 to Level 1, where 1 is the highest. To achieve Level 1, all levels must be complied with and there are areas of compliance within management, operation and design. The rating is based on a verification of a ship’s actual energy efficiency and environmental performance, carried out by an independent third party.
