Austal announced the United States Department of Defense has awarded Austal USA US$10,252,142 for a cost-plus-award fee against a previously awarded Basic Ordering Agreement. The order provides engineering and management services for advanced planning and design in support of the post shakedown availability for Littoral Combat Ship, USS Manchester (LCS14). Austal will provide program management, advanced planning, engineering, design, material kitting and subcontract management. The U.S. Navy has awarded a contract to Austal Limited USA to provide engineering and management services support of the Post Shakedown Availability for Independence-variant Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) Gabrielle Giffords (LCS 10). The US$12 million cost-plus-award-fee order adds to Austal USA’s growing support business, which provides critical support to both the LCS and Expeditionary Fast Transport (EPF) fleets. Austal USA will provide design, planning, and material support services for Gabrielle Giffords (LCS10), including program management, materials planning, engineering and design, material kitting, liaison and scheduling. Austal USA is currently completing an 11-ship Independence-variant LCS contract for the U.S. Navy worth over US$3.5 billion.

Alion Canada was awarded a $1.3 million contract to assist the Ministry of Transportation in Ontario, Canada, in securing a replacement ferry for the Motor Vessel (MV) Pelee Islander. First launched in 1960, the current Pelee Islander runs from Pelee Island, Ontario north to Kingsville and Learnington, and south to Sandusky, Ohio. Alion Canada will serve as the Ministry’s “owner’s expert” and provide naval architecture, marine engineering and vessel construction expertise during vessel design and construction. Under the contract, Alion Canada will provide technical oversight from design through delivery of the replacement ferry. Two ferries currently operate on the island: The Pelee Islander is the older one and carries 196 passengers and 14 vehicles.

Among the latest US Department of Defense, Navy contracts, General Dynamics Bath Iron Works, Bath, Maine, is being awarded a $7,526,038 cost-plus-award-fee modificationc for work on Littoral Combat Ship 'USS Independence'. The contract announced is additional to the previously awarded task order under a Basic Ordering Agreement (N00024-09-G-2301 ER09) to provide engineering and management services for advance planning and design in support of the post-shakedown availability for the USS Independence (LCS 2).

Science Applications International Corporation (NYSE:SAI) announced it won a contract from the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center (SSC) - Pacific to evaluate emerging technologies for shipboard navigation, sensors and systems. This single-award, indefinite-delivery/indefinite quantity contract has a three year base period of performance valued at $33m, two one year options, six six-month award terms, and a total potential value of more than $94m if all options are exercised. Work will be performed primarily in San Diego. Since 1997, SAIC has provided engineering and management services to SSC Pacific for navigation, Global Positioning System (GPS), command and control, and navigation warfare systems development.

The U.S. Navy awarded a $17.9m contract to Bath Iron Works, a subsidiary of General Dynamics to perform Post-Shakedown Availability (PSA) maintenance, repair and upgrade work for the Arleigh Burke-class Guided Missile Destroyer USS FARRAGUT (DDG 99). Work on the ship is scheduled to begin in February 2007 and will be performed by a Bath Iron Works - Atlantic Dry Dock Corporation Team in Atlantic's facilities near the ship's home port of Mayport, Fla. Services to be provided include engineering and management services; labor and procurement of material for system upgrades and to correct government-responsible deficiencies; performance of specified PSA work items, including tests and post-repair sea trials; and additional tasking to complete emergent repairs.
