Harren & Partner Names Nils Aden Managing Director

German shipping and logistics group Harren & Partner announced it has hired Nils Aden as managing director, effective May 1.Aden brings to the role more than two decades of know-how as a shipping industry executive in the industry, with experience from leadership positions in international ship management, transformation projects, M&A transactions and integration. In his previous assignments, he overlooked the merger of V.Ships and Norddeutsche Reederei H. Schuldt as Managing Director, led Zeaborn as CEO and transformed E.R. Schiffahrt as CEO into an international ship management player.

Zeaborn: 100 vessels to be EU Hazardous Compliant

Germany’s Zeaborn Ship Management has contracted Verifavia Shipping and the Korean Register (KR) to perform inventory of hazardous materials (IHM) preparation and certification for over 100 vessels.The vessels are managed by Zeaborn Ship Management, a consolidation of E.R. Schiffahrt and Rickmers Shipmanagement, and must be IHM compliant to meet the terms of the EU Ship Recycling Regulation (EU SRR) and the Hong Kong (HK) International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships.The HK Convention is aimed at reducing the negative impact of ship recycling on human health and safety, and on the environment. Verifavia Shipping Leads in EU MRV and IMO DCS IT System Certification

Harper Petersen Appoints New Managing Directors

Simon Aust, Managing Director of Hamburg-based shipbroker Harper Petersen, is leaving the company later this year. The management of Harper Petersen in Hamburg will be taken over by Bjoern Andersen and Arne Corleis as the new managing directors as from 1 August 2018. The global leadership team will therewith consist of three managers including Chief Representative Officer Mr. Hu Hui in Shanghai who will remain in charge of Harper Petersen Asia. Bjoern Andersen successfully built up the bulk desk in 2015 and since then has been responsible for the marketing of the bulk carriers owned by the shareholders and competitive business. Arne Corleis has been working with Harper Petersen in Shanghai and Hamburg for eleven years. His focus is and will remain the global container ship market.

Klein Named Carnival Maritime MD

Carnival Maritime GmbH has announced  that Dr Hermann J. Klein has been appointed as its new Managing Director, starting September 1st, 2018. Klein is currently Managing Director and Group COO of CPO Holding (Offen Group) in Hamburg, Germany. He will be succeeding Lars Ljoen, who will join Carnival Cruise Lines in Miami, USA, as Head of Marine Operations. Carnival Maritime is the marine service unit for Costa Group with its brands AIDA Cruises, Costa Cruises, and Costa Asia. “Hermann Klein is a long-standing, well recognized executive of the maritime industry and has the perfect background and profound marine experience to further drive innovation and operational excellence across our fleet,” said Michael Thamm, Group CEO, Costa Group and Carnival Asia.

E.R. Schiffahrt Enhances Vessel Connectivity

KVH Industries, Inc., announced that global ship manager E.R. Schiffahrt has chosen KVH’s new advanced TracPhone V7-HTS antenna equipment and the AgilePlans subscription-based Connectivity as a Service (CaaS) program to bring fast, global connectivity to its container and dry bulk vessels. Installations for the first 11 vessels have begun, with plans for a total of up to 60 vessels throughout 2018. “We chose KVH for the fast data speed, the reliable data management, the global coverage, and our experience with KVH as a trusted and proven professional service provider,” said Christoph Werner, director of marine and quality for E.R. Schiffahrt, which is based in Hamburg, Germany.

Zeaborn Takes Over E.R. Schiffahrt

Hamburg entrepreneur Erck Rickmers has sold his ship management and ship brokerage activities. Effective January 1, 2018, Bremen-based Zeaborn Group acquired all shares in E.R. Schiffahrt GmbH & Cie. KG and shipbroker Harper Petersen & Co. With the takeover, Zeaborn’s shipping fleet under commercial and technical management has been expanded by 61 container vessels and 20 bulk carriers to more than 165 vessels. All staff, approximately 200 employees ashore and 2,800 at sea, will transfer to the Zeaborn Group. Nils Aden, currently chief executive officer of E.R.

E.R. Schiffahrt to Manage 3 More Maersk Ships

Hamburg-based ship manager E.R. Schiffahrt informs it has been appointed by Maersk Line to manage three further vessels. With this new mandate, E.R. Schiffahrt increases the managed fleet for the world’s largest liner company from six to nine.   The new contract comprises the management of three 8,400 teu containerships and includes the crew and technical management, as well as additional services relating to safety/security, environmental protection and energy efficiency.    The 11-year-old container vessels will be bare boat chartered by Maersk and continue to be trading as Maersk Saigon, Maersk Stralsund and Maersk Seoul.   The ship management service began July 13, 2017.

E.R. Schiffahrt Chooses GNS ENCs Bundle

Maritime services group Global Navigation Solutions (GNS) has agreed terms with E.R. Schiffahrt, a Hamburg-based ship management company with activities in container and bulk segments, to supply Electronic Navigational Charts (ENCs) and the GNS navigation management software, Voyager. GNS is supplying ENCs and Voyager to the entire E.R. Schiffahrt fleet of 98 vessels at one fixed annual price, enabling the E.R. Schiffahrt ship management team to manage their annual ENC purchasing via a single purchase order and invoice. GNS said it used detailed analysis of each individual vessel’s trading pattern and chart usage to calculate the annual fixed price, an approach that enables E.R. Schiffahrt to ensure each vessel gets accurately charged for the ENCs it needs. In addition, the E.R.

Aschmann to Take CEO Helm at BSM

Rajaish Bajpaee will hand over CEO responsibility of Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM) to his current deputy, Capt. Norbert Aschmann, through planned succession at the end of December 2014 after more than 27 at the Schulte Group. Bajpaee will then take up the position of Chairman in a nonexecutive capacity, with effect from January 1, 2015, where he will support the continued success of BSM. Bajpaee joined the Eurasia Group of Companies in 1987, commencing as Deputy General Manager before being promoted to the position of President & CEO.

DNV GL “Modification Excellence Award” for Schiffahrt

Classification society DNV GL recognised that E.R. Schiffahrt has retrofitted seven ultra large container vessels to meet the highest energy efficiency standards and improve its cargo capacity through the DNV GL Modification Excellence Award. Jörg Lampe, Senior Project Engineer Risk & Safety and Systems Engineering at DNV GL, presented the award to Jürgen Kudritzki, Technical Director at E.R. Schiffahrt, in Hamburg. The German shipping company is the first to receive this award. “E.R. Schiffahrt has made a sustained and intensive commitment to increasing the efficiency of its operations. Our analysis shows these ships use 15 per cent less energy – resulting in annual savings of approximately 3.8 Million USD”, said Jörg Lampe. E.R.

A Heavyweight on Display at SMM

On Thursday morning a huge mobile crane placed the five-blade ship propeller in front of the main entrance of Hamburg's fair center, Hamburg Messe. The propeller is a head-turner at this year's SMM, the leading international trade fair of the maritime industry. Weighing in at around 80 metric tons, with a diameter greater than nine meters and a total blade surface area of 42 square meters, the ship propeller made by Mecklenburger Metallguss GmbH (MMG) is an impressive head-turner at this year's SMM, the leading international maritime trade fair.

New Crew Planning Software in Development

Hamburg-based ship-owning and ship management company E.R. Schiffahrt developed a Crew Compliance Optimizer, CCO, together with its partners Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement and the scientists of the Fraunhofer Center for Maritime Logistics and Services (CML). "The maritime industry is in urgent need of an instrument capable of accurately planning the size and composition of the crew for a particular ship size and route and the work processes required during port stays," said Ole John, Senior Research Associate with Fraunhofer CML. The number of sailors needed on board essentially depends on how many are required to run the ship safely at all times and perform maintenance work in addition to that.

Container Shippers Join Forces for Safety

The Container Ship Safety Forum (CSSF) has been launched as a global business-to-business network that aims to improve safety performance and management practices in the container shipping industry. Founding members CMA CGM Group, Costamare Shipping Company S.A., E.R. Schiffahrt GmbH & Cie. Vard to Design, Build PSV for E.R. Offshore

Vard Holdings Limited announced that it has secured a contract for the design and construction of one Platform Supply Vessel (PSV) for E.R. Offshore. The vessel is a multifunctional PSV of VARD 1 08 design with a total length of 81 meters, beam of 18 meters and a cargo deck area of 830 m2. The vessel will be prepared for standby, rescue, firefighting and oil recovery operations. Delivery is scheduled from Vard Vung Tau in Vietnam in 2Q 2016. E.R. Offshore has also taken over the contract for a sister vessel from Carlotta Offshore via a novation agreement.

E.R. Schiffahrt Selects Globe iFusion for Nearly 90 Ships

Globe Wireless announced E.R. Schiffahrt of Hamburg, Germany will install the Globe iFusion solution on nearly 90 vessels. Roland Felbinger, Nautical Senior Superintendent, of E.R. Schiffahrt commented, “Our corporate IT strategy is to utilize IP satellite technologies to improve our ability to remotely support shipboard IT systems, and lowering cost for growing traffic. Our evaluation showed that with most stand-alone terminals it would be necessary to install several other IT components. The Globe iFusion system was recently awarded the Inmarsat 2010 Maritime Solution of the Year award.

E.R. Schiffahrt Goes Global with Viking

Viking Life-Saving Equipment and E.R. Schiffahrt have teamed up to design a fully customized, global servicing arrangement based on Viking’s Shipowner Agreements. The contract covers liferafts, lifeboats, immersion suits, lifejackets and marine fire systems and equipment such as fire extinguishers on more than 30 vessels of the shipowner’s fleet. The plan is for Viking to manage not just service notifications, but also the coordination of all servicing. While lifeboats and marine fire equipment will be covered under a fixed-price servicing arrangement, E.R.

Maritime Montering Chooses Alu Design

Alu Design & Services announced that it has received its 10th contract from Maritime Montering AS, a global supplier of complete marine accommodation systems. This order is for YN 66 at STX Brevik for E.R. Schiffahrt, Germany.   The cooperation between the companies began in January 2009 when Maritime Montering awarded its first contract to Alu Design. To date, the company has used Alu Design products in its deliveries to Båtbygg AS, Fiskerstrand Verft AS, Havyard Leirvik AS, Hellesøy Verft AS, Karstensens AS, STX Aukra, STX Brevik and Westcon AS.
