McAllister Towing appoints Ginsberg CFO

Alan Ginsberg was named Chief Financial Officer of McAllister Towing.

McAllister Towing appointed Alan Ginsberg as Chief Financial Officer. Ginsberg is currently the Treasurer of the Seaman’s Church Institute and was the founding Chief Financial Officer of Eagle Bulk Shipping Inc. Eric McAllister, former Chief Financial Officer, will remain as Treasurer.

New Tug Joins McAllister Towing Fleet

McAllister Towing has taken delivery of Rosemary McAllister, the second in a series of four 100’ x 40’, 80 metric ton bollard pull tugboats. The new vessel, the 32nd tractor tug in McAllister’s fleet, was completed at Eastern Shipbuilding in Panama City, Fla.The Rosemary is powered by 3516E Tier IV Caterpillar engines with twin Schottel SRP4000FP units. Packed into her 100’ x 40’ hull is 6,770 horsepower. She has already exceeded expectations as she achieved 82.75 metric tons during her ABS bollard pull certification. The Rosemary joins her sister vessel, the Capt. Brian A.

McAllister Towing & Transportation operates a fleet of more than 75 tugboats, crew boats and barges in 17 locations along the U.S. East Coast from Portland, ME to San Juan, PR. The fleet consists of 28 Z-Drive/ Tractor tugs, 11 Tier II compliant tugs, 20 plus vessels involved in coastal towing and 35 ABS load line classed vessels. In each port, McAllister is engaged in ship docking, general harbor towing, coastal towing and bulk transportation. The firm has recently welcomed 3 new Z-Drive/ Tractor tugs as it continues to upgrade its already formidable fleet.

The Maritime Person of the Year

The Massachusetts Maritime Academy’s annual salute to ‘the person of the year’ this year spotlights McAllister Towing and Transportation Co. and its leadership team. Set for September 10, 2015, MMA’s Salute to the Maritime Person of the Year – benefiting the MMA Cadet Scholarship Fund – most fittingly highlights the McAllister family, specifically Brian McAllister, Buckley McAllister and Eric McAllister. Fresh off its celebration of 150 years in business, McAllister Towing & Transportation’s marine transportation group collectively operates a fleet of more than 75 tugboats, crew boats and barges in 17 locations along the U.S. East Coast from Portland, ME to San Juan, PR. In terms of the firm’s impact on the maritime industry, they represent much more than that.

Editorial: 75, 150 ... What’s in a Number?

It is not often that I break out the tux for my editorial picture, but this special edition dictates. I know that I should argue that all of our editions are special, but this one in particular, I must admit, stands out in a number of ways. In fact, all of 2014 has been somewhat ‘special,’ as the domestic maritime business has rebounded with a vigor, driven in no small part by an unprecedented energy boom in the U.S. that looks like it will make the country energy independent by 2020.

McAllister Towing Celebrates 150 in Style

McAllister Towing hosted a dual celebration in New York City on Friday, September 19, a gala in honor of the company’s 150th anniversary and a traditional christening of the Buckley McAllister, the latest high tech tractor tug added to the company’s fleet. Pier 60 at Chelsea piers was packed with a veritable “Who’s Who” in the maritime industry as Captain Brian A. McAllister, Chairman (4th generation); Buckley McAllister, President (5th generation) and Eric McAllister, CFO (5th generation) presided over the signature New York event.

U.S. marine vessel operators have invested in their fleets, adopted new technologies and switched to cleaner burning engines and fuels to stay in business. In this edition, we take a look at how industry leading marine operators have flourished, sometimes in tough circumstances. At family-run McAllister and Chouest, sons and daughters learned operations from the ground up, while CEO Todd Hornbeck revamped the first version of a company started by his dad. McAllister Towing is pleased to announce that Buckley McAllister has been promoted to the position of President. Captain Brian A. McAllister, President of the Company since 1984, will remain as Chairman. Buckley McAllister joined McAllister Towing in 1998 and has served as the company’s Vice President and General Counsel since that time. Prior to joining McAllister Towing, Buckley was an Associate at Hill, Betts and Nash LLP. He is a member of the bar in New York, California and a number of federal jurisdictions.
