Crowley Acquires Three SeaRiver Tankers

Crowley Alaska Tankers, LLC, has completed its acquisition of three tankers from SeaRiver Maritime Inc. and is now chartering the vessels back to SeaRiver under varying multi-year terms.The tankers Liberty Bay and Eagle Bay, now under Crowley ownership and operation and renamed Washington and California respectively, each have a capacity of 760,000 barrels and transport crude from Alaska to West Coast refineries. The tanker SR American Progress, renamed Oregon, has a capacity of 342,000 barrels and transports refined petroleum between the U.S.

Crowley Shipping Announces Management Team

Crowley Maritime Corp. appointed four industry veterans to oversee the consolidated lines of business under the recently formed Crowley Shipping group, which provides petroleum and chemical transportation, commercial ship management, offshore energy support and ship assist and tanker escort services in the U.S. and international markets. Crowley to Buy Three Tankers from SeaRiver

Crowley Alaska Tankers, LLC, has signed an agreement to purchase three tankers from SeaRiver Maritime Inc., and charter them back to SeaRiver under varying multi-year terms. The deal is subject to regulatory approval. Included in the acquisition are the tankers Liberty Bay and Eagle Bay, each of which have a capacity of 800,000 barrels and transport crude from Alaska to West Coast refineries; and the tanker SR American Progress, which has a capacity of 342,000 barrels and transports refined petroleum between U.S. gulf and East Coast ports. Crowley said it will now work with regulators to obtain the necessary regulatory approvals to serve the Alaska and West Coast markets.

Harley Marine Services christened its newest tractor tug Earl W Redd, officially welcoming her to the fleet on Friday, February 10. Built at Diversified Marine of Portland, Ore., the Earl W Redd features twin Cat 3516 Tier 4 Final main engines that will each produce 2,675 horsepower at 1,600 rpm. Each of the engines is paired with a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) after treatment system that uses a urea-based solution to reduce NOx contained in diesel exhaust down to nitrogen and water vapor.

Harley Marine Welcomes First US EPA Tier 4 Tractor Tug

Harley Marine Services accepted delivery of its newest tractor tug, Earl W Redd, a first-of-its-kind workboat equipped with Caterpillar's Tier 4 emissions technology. The vessel enters the Harley fleet as one of the most efficient and environmentally conscious vessels in the world, exceeding the toughest marine EPA standards. Built at Diversified Marine of Portland, Ore., the Earl W Redd measures 120 feet by 35 feet, with a loaded draft of 19 feet 3 inches. Four Patrol Boats Delivered in Nigeria

Four Damen SPa 1605 ballistic protected security patrol vessels have been delivered to C&I Leasing Plc, a player in the Nigerian offshore support vessel market. The patrol boats, which have already undergone sea-trials, will provide security patrol and escort services for LNG tankers calling in and out of the Nigerian LNG Bonny terminal. The 16-meter craft have aluminum hulls and GRP composite superstructures. The accommodation has been additionally clad with bullet-proof materials to protect the personnel inside. All four vessels feature upgraded water jets and engines.

New Tug Delivered for Italtugs

The delivery of tug Civitavecchia to the Italian tugboat operator Italtugs for its operation at a Sicilian oil terminal represents another milestone in the tchnical cooperation between Sanmar Shipyards in Turkey and the Canadian naval architects, Robert Allan Limited. Combining Sanmar’s experience as an international tugboat operator with RAL’s design expertise has resulted in some 150 vessels being built at either of the former’s custom-built shipyards. Now, this latest delivery is the first vessel of the Ulucay Class which is based on the RAstar 3200W design.

Multraship Taking Delivery of Damen ASD 3212 tug

Towage and salvage specialist Multraship is to take delivery of a new design of ASD 3212 tug from the Galati, Romania yard of the Damen Shipyards Group. The new ASD 3212 Multratug 19 has been built to a completely new design specification developed after a period of intensive research. Multraship’s specification called for a tug with minimum 80 tons bollard pull (BP), able to serve specific market segments. During its initial sea trials, Multratug 19 achieved over 83 tons BP and a speed of almost 15 knots. Final tests will be carried out in The Netherlands.

Fairmount Marine’s tug Fairmount Alpine has towed the rig Ocean Whittington from offshore Belem, Brazil, to offshore Galveston, US. For this job Fairmount Marine was contracted by the rigs owner, Diamond Offshore Drilling, for which Fairmount has performed a series of towages in recent years. Fairmount Alpine Provides Escort Service

The tug Fairmount Alpine has performed escort services for a bulk carrier at the request of international salvage company Smit Salvage. The bulker suffered structural damages while in Brazil. Smit contracted Fairmount Marine for first stand-by and, later, as escort during the trans-Atlantic crossing of the bulk carrier. When contracted in December, Fairmount Marine mobilized super class tug Fairmount Alpine from Jamaica to Brazil. When arrived in Brazil, after a stop in Trinidad for supplies, the Fairmount Alpine was ordered to be stand-by for safety precaution. The Fairmount Alpine also assisted the salvage team with some cargo runs. After almost two months, Fairmount Alpine was requested to escort the bulk carrier during her trans-Atlantic voyage from Brazil to Walvis Bay, Namibia.

Alaska Awards Crowley Environmental Contract

Crowley's Ocean Rangers Have Protected Alaska's Environment Since 2008. The State of Alaska's Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC) has announced that it has awarded a contract to Crowley Maritime Corporation to continue administering the State of Alaska's Ocean Ranger Program, effective November 2011. The contract directs Crowley to recruit, hire, train and organize the logistics of placing Ocean Rangers on board cruise ships each season to act as independent observers and to assure compliance with federal and state environmental health, sanitation and safety requirements.

In recognition of Crowley Maritime Corporation's safe harbor ship assist and tanker escort operations on the west coast, Tesoro Maritime Company recently honored Crowley's harbor services team with safe work awards - one for each of the past four years - during a ceremony in Crowley's Seattle office. Crowley's Andrew Gauthier, port captain; Scott Hoggarth, general manager of harbor ship assist and tanker escort services; and tug crewmembers Abe Gueller, Tom File and Chuck Klausmeier were present to accept the awards from Captain Tim Plummer, vice president of Tesoro Maritime.
