ADNOC Logistics and Services, the shipping and services arm of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), has signed a contract with Borouge, a leading provider of value creating plastics solutions, to handle its Ruwais container terminal operations. The five-year contract, awarded through a competitive bidding process, is the first deal signed between Borouge and ADNOC Logistics and Services as a new integrated entity, following the integration of IRSHAD, ESNAAD and ADNATCO into a single ADNOC operating company. Under the terms of the contract, ADNOC Logistics and Services will carry out all handling operations of Borouge’s packed and palletized products and bulk loaded containers.

In partnership with ESNAAD-PJS, environmental solutions provider, TWMA, has celebrated reaching one million incident free man hours on the ZADCO UZ750 project in Abu Dhabi. The milestone was achieved on operations spanning four artificial islands – North, South, Central and West. Ballast water treatment (BWT) specialist Optimarin is continuing its strong start to the year, with the news that its Optimarin Ballast System (OBS) has been selected for nine Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group AHTS vessels. The contract win comes on the back of a recent ten unit order from Atlantis Tankers and the firm’s first foray into the fishing sector, with Fisherman’s Finest’s America’s Finest trawler. The nine AHTS vessels, designed by Sinopacific’s Shanghai Design Associates specialist OSV team, will be operated by ESNAAD, a subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC).

Rolls-Royce has signed a contract with Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group (Sinopacific) in Shanghai for a package of power and propulsion equipment and deck machinery. The contract is to equip nine SPA80A Anchor Handling Tug Supply vessels to be designed and built by Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group and owned and operated by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and its wholly-owned subsidiary, ESNAAD. Each ship will have a bollard pull of 80 metric tons, and be equipped with Bergen diesel engines, main and tunnel thrusters, electrical power system and a deck machinery package from Rolls-Royce.

SINOPACIFIC Shipbuilding Group was recently successful in winning the bid for the construction of 9 AHTS vessels for Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and its wholly-owned subsidiary, ESNAAD. ADNOC firstly launched bids for this new-building project in 2013 and then handed it over to ESNAAD, its wholly-owned subsidiary for follow up. The above contract was signed by both parties in Abu Dhabi and SINOPACIFIC will deliver all 9 vessels in 2017. The design that won the bid is the SPA80A, which is an AHTS with electric propulsion system and a bollard pull of 80mt designed by SDA (Shanghai Design Associates), the SINOPACIFIC OSV design team.

Aage Hempel, a company in worldwide merchant marine electronic service and focused on 24/7 maritime sales and service, signs agreement for the delivery of navigation and communication equipment included Integrated Bridge System from Kelvin Hughes with Shipyard De Hoop in Lobith. The Platform Supply Vessels (PSV) are for Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC). The first vessel is to be delivered early 2015, while the delivery of the other nine vessels is equally spread over almost 1.5 years, with the last PSV to be handed over at the end of 2016.

An OSV, a dredger and a landing craft have been recently added to the Dutch vessel delivery firm Redwise’s track record of completed ocean passages. The newly built landing craft  “ESNAAD 1010” of 1.334 gt and installed propulsion power of 1696 BHP was successfully delivered on her maiden passage during the monsoon season from the Sealink Yard at Miri (Malaysia) to Abu Dhabi (UAE). The newly built Offshore Support Vessel “OCEAN STAR”, departed from the yard at Guangzhou (China) on May 15th heading for her new homeport Dos Bocas (Mexico).

Redwise reported the successful repositioning of three ships globally, relocating an OSV, a dredger and a landing craft. The offshore support vessel Ocean Star, departed from the yard at Guangzhou, China on May 15 heading for her new homeport Dos Bocas, Mexico. The route took the vessel via great circle route across the Pacific Ocean to Panama Canal. Ocean Star safely arrived on the Caribbean side of Mexico on July 20 after a maiden voyage covering 10,676 nautical miles. The well-maintained and sturdy 1975 built dredger Sand Weaver  recently departed from the U.K. port of Swansea.

Abu Dhabi Ship Building has announced that it is stepping up its focus on maintenance, repairs and overhauling services, which has been one of the fastest-growing business divisions of the company. Abu Dhabi Ship Building is currently showcasing its advanced MRO capabilities at the Doha International Maritime Defense Exhibition & Conference (DIMDEX), the only specialized maritime defense exhibition in the Middle East, being held from March 26 to 28, 2012, at the Qatar National Convention Centre. Each year, Abu Dhabi Ship Building handles approximately 300 repair and upgrade projects for vessels like tugs, barges, landing craft, dredgers, work boats, crew boats, diving vessels, supply and safety vessels and anchor handling tug boats.

In only its second year, the Middle East Workboats 2009 exhibition and conference concluded with a 70% increase in the number of exhibitors and a 60% increase in exhibition space compared with the previous event. “The offshore marine support industry is upbeat about the future in this region and there can be no more powerful sign of the continuing development of the sector than the participation in this show of so many regional and international players,” said Christopher Hayman…

The region’s premier maritime event for specialized vessels opening Monday, 5 October 2009, is shrugging off the impact of the economic downturn with a 70% increase in the number of exhibitors and a 60% increase in exhibition space compared with last year, according to the organizers. Workboats include tugs, ferries, supply vessels; police, fire, patrol, pilot, rescue and oil spill boats; along with, dredgers, barges and floating cranes. More than 2,000 such vessels are estimated to be docked or repaired in the Middle East.

Operators of vessels off the East coast of Africa are being warned by a leading insurance expert to prepare for an increase in pirate attacks after the southwestern monsoon ends in coming weeks. “There is a temporary lull in pirate activity at the moment off the East coast of Africa…but we expect this to be just that - a temporary lull,” said William Tobin, of the not-for-profit mutual organization Shipowners’ Protection Ltd., and a leading speaker at an upcoming regional maritime conference in Abu Dhabi. “When weather conditions improve we expect an increase in activity over and above what we have witnessed in the recent past,” he added. “The lack of any law and order, particularly in Somalia, continues to deteriorate.”  The southwestern summer monsoons occur from June through September.

While the world is in the grip of an economic slowdown, the Arabian Gulf remains a dynamic growth centre for ship building and repair, said a maritime industry observer. “The region is one of the busiest commercial maritime hubs with the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Qatar having major ports and shipyards with more being built,” said Christopher Hayman, Chairman of Seatrade, organisers of the region's premier event focused on workboats to be held in Abu Dhabi later this year. Regional demand for fast vessels carrying between eight and up to 300 passengers could exceed 400 over the next 10 years, said shipbuilders from countries such as the Netherlands, Turkey, Norway and Australia hoping to win a share of orders. “We are anticipating there is going to be a huge demand for passenger transport of all kinds,” said Martin de Bruijn, Middle East sales director for Damen Shipyards of the Netherlands which recently announced a joint venture with Albwardy Marine Engineering of Dubai.

Multi-billion dollar projects in the Middle East oil and gas industry are driving developments in the design and operation of the workhorses of the sea, according to industry experts. A growing demand for workboats of all sizes is also being stimulated by the mega-dollar port and reclamation schemes taking place around the Arabian Peninsula. Gulfnews has reported that Adnoc subsidiary Esnaad, a marine and supply base services company, has ordered five new vessels from Singapore at a cost of $60m as part of its fleet replacement, a top company official revealed. Darwish A. Al Qubaisi, General Manager, said that the fleet replacement process is ongoing to meet the expansion needs of the company. Esnaad took delivery of two new vessels yesterday, both, anchor handling towing supply vessels built by Singapore-based Otto Engineering at a cost of $24m. Currently, the company owns a fleet of 26 multipurpose vessels and manages nine chartered vessels offering services to major clients, mainly Adnoc companies. Rolls-Royce group has sold two UT780 tugboats to the UAE’s Esnaad, a unit of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company. The boats, which will be able to operate in warm seas, are being built in Indonesia and will be ready in Q1 2008. operation in warm seas, the company said. In addition 500 tons of cargo can be carried on deck, while a six tank, bulk system has also been installed. Two Bergen C-series engines turning twin CP propellers will provide a bollard pull of around 60 tons. The ships are reportedly sold as complete systems and fitted with a range of Rolls-Royce manufactured equipment which can include diesel engines, rudders, propellers, thrusters and powerful deck winches. Darwish Al Qubaisi, Esnaad general manager, said that the UT concept enjoys a unique position.

The UK based Rolls Royce Group has sold two UT780 tugboats to the UAE's Esnaad, a unit of the Abu Dhbai National Oil Company, according to agency reports. The boats, which will be able to handle high temperatures, are being built in Indonesia and will be ready in Q1 2008.
