World Maritime University Celebrates 2022 Graduation

On October 31, 2022, global maritime leaders of tomorrow graduated from the World Maritime University (WMU). The Class of 2022 has received the education required to contribute to maritime and ocean matters in their home countries and more broadly to the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). Two Binding Bids for Greek Port

Greece received two binding bids for a majority stake in its northern port of Alexandroupolis, the country's privatizations agency HRADF said.The bidders for a 67% stake in the port were Quintana Infrastructure and Development through Liberty Port Holdings Single Member, and International Port Investments Alexandroupolis, a joint venture of Black Summit Financial Group, Euroports, EFA Group and GEK Terna, the agency said in a statement.The deadline for the bids expired earlier on Thursday.

Greece Gets Strong Interest for Igoumenitsa Port

Greece on Friday received nine non-binding bids for a 67% stake in Igoumenitsa port, its privatization agency said on Friday.Bids were submitted by Aegean Oil, Attica Holdings and a consortium of Archirodon Group and ANEK & Trident Hellas Group.The other bidders were a consortium of Grimaldi Euromed and Minoan Lines, Danthia Shipping, MRG Ltd, Portek International, Quintana Infrastructure and Thessaloniki Port Authority , the agency said.The deadline for bidding expired at 1500 GMT on Friday.Greece embarked on an ambitious privatization plan in 2010, at the start of a decade-long financial cri

Grimaldi Installs Corvus Mega Batteries

Corvus Energy, a provider high power energy storage in the form of modular lithium ion battery systems to the maritime industry, has completed the installation of a 5.5 MWh battery energy storage systems (ESS) in each of the two Grimaldi Group RoPax cruise ferries Cruise Barcelona and Cruise Roma.The energy storage solutions supplier said in a press release that the ‘mega batteries’ will allow the Grimaldi cruise ferries to turn off the diesel engines and operate solely on battery power and with zero emissions for up to four hours during port stay.“The Corvus energy storage system is an important component in our vision for sustainable shipping…

More Sanmar Newbuilds Cross the Atlantic

Svitzer Americas’ newest vessels Svitzer Monte Cristi and Svitzer Catuan have been delivered by Turkish tug builder Sanmar. The boats, which will be operated in the Dominican Republic, are Ramparts 2400 SX class tugs, designed by Robert Allan Limited exclusively for Sanmar, and are known as the Bogaçay Class of which 30 have now been purchased by customers worldwide. Changes to Euromed Service

Maersk Line announced a number of changes to its Euromed service (43G) serving Northern Europe to the Eastern Mediterranean, taking effect on 20 July, 2009. The revised rotation, to commence from vessel Maersk Bintan 741/0919, will be Felixstowe-Rotterdam-Bremerhaven-Alexandria-Port Said-Haifa-Ashdod-Gioia Tauro to Felixstowe. With the new Euromed rotation Maersk Line will increase the dedicated capacity to these markets, reduce transit times and expanding the direct port coverage. Maersk Line will also launch a new East-West Mediterranean feeder service to cater for Gioia Tauro-Alexandria volumes as well as other key corridors. The rotation will be Algeciras-Gioia Tauro-Alexandria-Mersin-Izmir-Algeciras.
