Europort 2013 Retrospect: +29,000 Visitors Logged

Organiser Ahoy backed up its claim for Europort as ‘connecting the maritime world’ by logging attendance by 29,355 visitors from 84 countries, with trade missions present from China, Russia and Brazil, among others. Rederij Groen Orders another Damen Vessel

During a contract signing ceremony at Europort 2013, Maaskant Shipyards Stellendam, part of Damen Shipyards Group signed the contract to build an additional Seismic Research Support Vessel for Rederij Groen. This latest contract follows last month’s order of two new Seismic Research Support Vessels (SRSVs) that are due for delivery in the third quarter of 2014. This third vessel, initially only an option, completes the latest phase of RederijGroen’s expansion and will be delivered in 2015.

Minister Calls for Level Playing Field at Europort

A call for sustained innovation and an ‘international level playing field’ on environmental regulation greeted global maritime and offshore business leaders today, as Melanie Schultz van Haegen, Minister of Infrastructure and the Environment of the Netherlands opened Europort 2013 at Ahoy Rotterdam. Addressing an invited audience that included ambassadors and shipowners from around the world, as well as trade mission delegations from China, Russia and Brazil, Mrs. Schultz said the challenges facing the sector needed frontrunners who want to innovate. “We need pioneers.” she said.

Europort Captures Global Industry Mood

Two weeks before the doors open at Europort, Rotterdam, organizer Ahoy is finalizing arrangements for the event that promises to provide a benchmark for the “state of the global maritime and offshore industry” in late 2013. Alongside attendees at its Advanced Technology Conferences industry seminars and networking opportunities, over 1,000 exhibitors will be present at Europort 2013, which takes place November 5-8 at Ahoy Rotterdam. This year, companies from 39 countries will participate, with international organizations accounting for 45% of all exhibitors. “Technical innovators will populate all 10 of the Ahoy exhibition halls”, said Raymond Siliakus, Europort Exhibition Manager.

LNG Tech on tap at Europort 2013

The Port of Rotterdam predicts becoming a LNG bunkering hub by 2030

Emissions regulations from 2015 onwards are driving shipowners to a crossroads on fuel selection. Ahead of Europort 2013, Rotterdam, Dutch interests are making significant waves in tangible investments in LNG as a fuel option. While there is not consensus on the potential of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a marine fuel, the concept is gaining traction rapidly as using LNG reduces nitrogen oxide (NOx) and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from ships, as well as allowing operators to meet restrictions set in Sulfur Emission Control Areas (SECAs) today, which tighten from 2015 onwards.

Europort Brings Offshore Shipbuilding into Focus

The offshore market remains buoyant, with exploration and production driving new fleet investment, design innovation in vessel efficiency and reduced environmental impact. Operations in more challenging offshore environments are also demanding enhanced vessel maneuverability, station-keeping and overall safety, in line with tightening regulations. The sector’s opportunities and its cutting edge technology will be on show at Europort 2013, the maritime exhibition taking place at Ahoy Rotterdam November 5-8, 2013, said Raymond Silliakus, Europort Exhibition Manager.

Europort 2013 issues a call for papers for its Advanced Technology Conferences, November 5-8, 2013 in Rotterdam. Organisers have invited leading national and international players to showcase the global industry’s cutting edge ideas, which will sustain growth in the diverse special-purpose ships sector, as mainstream markets continue to stagnate. The ‘Advanced Technology Conferences’, whose overarching theme is ‘Pioneers in maritime technology’,  are being organised in cooperation with Holland Marine Equipment (HME),  and consist of a series of short, dynamic workshops, updating visitors on the latest innovations in maritime technology.
