Norway to Drillers: Fix Oil Rig Lifeboat Safety
Norway's Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) has told Transocean, Maersk Drilling and Odfjell Drilling to beef up emergency evacuation equipment and procedures on 22 offshore oil rigs, it said on Wednesday.Drilling rigs are equipped with enclosed lifeboats that can be dropped into the ocean in an emergency and owners must meet a series of technical and operational requirements for how to plan and carry out evacuations."All the audits identified a non-conformity from the regulations.

With just a few months to go, VIKING has all hands on deck to ensure coastal vessel operators don’t risk their ability to sail under the US Coast Guard’s upgraded coastal vessel safety regulations. Marine safety equipment manufacturer and servicing provider VIKING Life-Saving Equipment A/S says it’s worried that commercial vessels operating in North American coastal waters and waterways simply won’t be able to sail when new USCG safety regulations come into force on 26 February 2016. A Review of Recent Developments with the Americans with Disabilities Act's Requirements for U.S. By James P. Nader & Rudolph F. Douglas Spector and Tammy Stevens presumably do not know each other, but they have a lot in common. Approximately five years ago, both Spector and Stevens boarded cruise ships out of major ports in the southern United States. Both Spector and Stevens, who are wheel-chair bound, believed their respective cruise ships discriminated against them as disabled passengers. Both individuals filed suit in federal courts alleging violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Despite the similarities in their lawsuits, these two federal courts reached completely opposite results.
BC Ferries Vessel Ready After Upgrade
BC Ferries' Queen of Surrey returns to service today on the Langdale – Horseshoe Bay route following a $40m extensive upgrade. The vessel’s extensive upgrade included mechanical and safety improvements, as well as upgraded passenger amenities. This mid-life upgrade which took almost seven months to complete, will prepare the 25-year old vessel for another 20 years of service. Some of the major project work included, main engine and shaft upgrades, steel replacement, electrical upgrades, installation of new emergency evacuation equipment, modernization of service functions such as elevators, heating and ventilation and air conditioning systems.
