Evergreen America Corp. Returns to JC

Evergreen America Corporation, agents for global ocean carrier Evergreen, has moved U. S. headquarters to Jersey City, NJ , from Morristown, NJ, effective November 17. The move returns more than 200 jobs to Jersey City. The new address is 1 Evertrust Plaza, Jersey City, NJ 07302. For ten years, Evergreen America maintained its head offices at the Evertrust Building, which is owned by an Evergreen Group division, before moving to Morristown four years ago.

Port Captains, Port Engineers Not Managerial Employees

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit ruled that port captains and port engineers are not managerial employees for purpose of the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA). In the instant case, a labor union filed a representation petition with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) seeking an election to become the exclusive bargaining agent for the port captains and port engineers employed by the employer. The employer opposed the petition and, when the NLRB ordered an election and the union won, the employer refused to bargain. The employer sought judicial review of the NLRB order. Delich Bentley, Ambassador Middendorf and Morrone To Be Honored

The U.S. Maritime Security Expo will honor the Honorable Helen Delich Bentley, a former congresswoman from Maryland and former Chairperson of the Federal Maritime Commission; Ambassador William Middendorf, Former Secretary of the Navy; and Fred Morrone, former Director of Security for the Port Authority of New York/New Jersey, for their efforts to improve the security of U.S. U.S. maritime industry. The awards will be presented to the honorees at a luncheon on Sept. 18, during the upcoming U.S. Maritime Security Expo in New York. Evergreen America Corp. will sponsor this special event. Bentley and Ambassador Middendorf will accept their awards in person. The award to Fred Morrone will be issued posthumously.
