Fairbanks Morse Ships USS Cleveland (LCS 31) Engines

Fairbanks Morse Engine (FME), a division of Fairbanks Morse Defense (FMD), shipped two 16-cylinder Fairbanks Morse engines to Fincantieri Marinette Marine in Marinette, Wis., for the USS Cleveland (LCS 31), the 16th ship of the U.S. Navy's Freedom-class LCS variant.FME was awarded a contract in 2019 to build and deliver Main Propulsion Diesel Engines (MPDE's) for the vessel.FME has provided power and propulsion services to the U.S. Navy for more than 70 years and powers more than 80% of the Navy's ships with medium-speed applications.

Fairbanks Morse Defense (FMD), a portfolio company of Arcline Investment Management, announced that its Fairbanks Morse Engine (FME) division was awarded a contract by Eastern Shipbuilding Group (ESG) to build and deliver the two main propulsion diesel engines (MPDE) for the U.S. Coast Guard’s fourth Offshore Patrol Cutter the RUSH (WMSM-918). FME will build the engines at its Beloit, Wis. manufacturing facility.“Fairbanks Morse engines will help the OPCs perform the mission-critical task of preserving the country’s maritime security.

Fairbanks Morse Engine (FME), a division of Fairbanks Morse Defense (FMD), shipped two main propulsion diesel engines for the USNS Earl Warren (T-AO 207) on June 13, 2021. These are the fifth and sixth engines Fairbanks Morse Engine has made for the T-AO program. Fairbanks Morse to Launch Engine at Power-Gen 2017

Fairbanks Morse Engine announced it will launch a next generation engine, the Trident OP, at the Power-Gen International Conference in Las Vegas, December 5. According to the manufacturer, the Trident OP answers the need for higher efficiency power generation in a wide range of applications and represents a class-leading, next-generation engine. The Trident OP features an innovative design, combining smart-engine technology with opposed-piston (OP) architecture. The marine propulsion engine market was valued at $9 billion in 2015 and is projected to reach $12 billion by 2022, growing at a CAGR of 4.1 percent from 2016 to 2022, according to a new report published by Allied Market Research. Diesel propulsion system segment is expected to maintain its dominance throughout the forecast period. Asia-Pacific accounted for the highest share of 51 percent in 2015, and is anticipated to maintain this trend. Eastern Selects MAN Engines for OPC

The US Coast Guard will have MAN’s 28/33D STC engines installed as the main propulsion for its new Offshore Patrol Cutter (OPC) programme. The programme is the replacement platform for the 13 ‘Famous’ class and 14 ‘Reliance’ class cutter vessels, making the order the largest vessel procurement order in the Coast Guard’s history. New Navy Contracts

Raytheon Co., Tucson, Ariz., is being awarded a $151,577,441 modification to previously awarded contract (N00024-07-C-5431) to procure 186 Evolved SEASPARROW Missiles (ESSM), 77 shipping containers, and spares for the NATO SEASPARROW Consortium and the United Arab Emirates. Work will be performed in Tucson, Ariz., (45 percent); Camden, Ark., (2 percent); Andover, Mass,. (10 percent), Australia, (11 percent), Canada, (7 percent), Denmark, (1 percent), Greece, (1 percent), Germany, (8 percent), The Netherlands, (6 percent); Norway, (5 percent); Spain, (3 percent); and Turkey, (1 percent), and is expected to be completed by August 2012. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. The Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, D.C., is the contracting activity.

NOAA's Oldest Ship Retired

Navy Awards Contract for Auxiliary Cargo and Ammunition Class(T-AKE)

On October 18, 2001, the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) announced the award of a $406.9 million competitive contract for the detailed design and construction of the lead ship of the T-AKE Auxiliary Cargo and Ammunition Class to National Steel and Shipbuilding Company (NASSCO) of San Diego, Calif. Major subcontractors are IMECO of Iron Mountain, Mich.; Hopeman Brothers Marine Interiors of Waynesboro, Va.; Alstom Power Conversion Inc. of Philadelphia, Pa.; B.F. Eight Power Inc. of Belle Chasse, La.; Lake Shore Inc. Performance Contracting Inc. Scarborough, Maine; and SIPCO of Willis, Texas. Additionally, NAVSEA exercised a contract option in the amount of $301.6 million for the detailed design and construction of the first follow ship.

Fairbanks Morse Engine Awarded Contract for LHA 6

Six Fairbanks Morse Colt-Pielstick 12 cylinder PA6B diesel generators rated at 4,200 kW each will provide electrical power for auxiliary propulsion and ship’s service. LHA 6 features several aviation enhancements beyond the LHD design. These include a larger hangar deck, realignment and expansion of the aviation maintenance facilities, a larger area for parts storage and support equipment, and increased fuel capacity for aircraft. LHA 6 is scheduled to be delivered in 2012.

Fairbanks Morse Engine Secures Funding

Fairbanks Morse Engine, an EnPro Industries company, will install low load upgrade kits on the LSD - 41/49 class of U.S. Navy ships following a $4 million federal spending plan secured by Wisconsin Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin. The decision to upgrade the engines is based on a successful proof-of-concept trial of low load upgrade kits on the U.S.S. Oak Hill (LSD-51) for its Fairbanks Morse Opposed Piston (OP) engines that provide ship electrical service. Bay (WTGB 107). The upgrade kit extends the service life of the engines, while at the same time reducing emissions and lowering lube oil and fuel consumption rates. This technology will result in substantial cost savings and increased reliability for the U.S. Navy.

Coltec Industries has received an order of more than $12 million for four engines to be used on the second ship in the U.S. Navy's Landing Platform Dock (LPD) program.
