Interview: Alison Nolan, GM, Boston Harbor Cruises
Alison Nolan is General Manager and a fourth-generation owner of Boston Harbor Cruises (BHC), a company that moves more than 2.5 million passengers annually on its fleet of 60 vessels with more than 600 daily departures seven ports and more than 30 facilities. But the story of BHC and Alison Nolan transcends raw numbers; as the company and passenger vessel industry are in her DNA, more of a lifestyle than a career. She spoke with Maritime Reporter & Engineering News recently to address the rewards and challenges inherent in her position.
USCG’s First District Changes Leadership
The Coast Guard will hold a change of command ceremony at Faneuil Hall, Monday at 10:00 a.m., as Rear Admiral George N. Naccara will step down as commander of the First Coast Guard District, turning over leadership of the service's New England, New York and Northern New Jersey operations to Rear Admiral Vivien S. Crea. A number of VIPs will be in attendance, and senior Coast Guard officers will preside over the ceremony. Admiral Naccara will step down after 33 years of service, most recently as the First District Commander the past two years. Under his leadership, men and women of the First District responded to the worst terrorist attacks on U.S. soil in our nation's history by immediately establishing a security presence in Boston and New York harbors.
Status Update: Neptune LNG
In November, a public scoping meeting and informational open house will take place in Massachusetts regarding the proposed Neptune Deepwater Port Project in Massachusetts. The Scoping Meeting will be held in Faneuil Hall in Boston, MA on November 2, 2005. There will also be a public meeting at Gloucester High School in Gloucester, MA on November 3, 2005. Both meetings are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. and are scheduled for two hours in length. Each meeting will be preceded by an informational open house from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Status Update: Northeast Gateway
On October 18, 2005, a public scoping meeting was held in Boston, Massachusetts to discuss the proposed Northeast Gateway Deepwater Port project. The purpose of the meeting was to accept the public’s comments regarding the proposed project. The meeting took place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Faneuil Hall and was preceded by an informational open house from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. A similar public scoping meeting and open house for the Northeast Gateway project took place in Gloucester, Massachusetts on October 19, 2005.
