Recruiter to Cooperate in Deal with Workers Suing Major US Shipbuilders

Faststream Opens New Global Headquarters

Faststream Recruitment founder and CEO Mark Charman launched the group’s new global headquarters in Southampton alongside Guy Patten, CEO of the U.K. Chamber of Shipping, at an official unveiling event on June 21. Faststream was established in Southampton in 1999, having gone on to launch further international offices in North America and Asia, with its Southampton office remaining as its global headquarters and housing more than 70 of its 100 worldwide staff. Faststream Awards Inaugural Leadership Scholarship

Faststream today named Chad Fuhrmann the recipient of its inaugural Scholarship for Leadership Excellence. The scholarship, valued at $9,500, will afford Fuhrmann the opportunity to attend a continuing education program hosted by Louisiana State University’s E.J. Ourso College of Business Stephenson Entrepreneurship Institute. Fuhrmann is the business director for the Americas at Maritime Assurance and Consulting, Ltd. (MAC), where he is responsible for all U.S. operations. He previously held leadership roles at DNV GL, GL Noble Denton, and Oceaneering International.

Shippers Must Reduce Costs, Boost Efficiency

Bibby Ship Management Group Ltd announced the appointment of Mark Robertshaw as its new Commercial Director, joining the business on September 23, 2013. His responsibilities will also include the role of new Managing Director for Bibby Ship Management’s Western Europe office, based in the Isle of Man. Faststream: Pay Rising Across the Waterfront

Faststream Employment Review reveals pay rises across maritime sector. The latest Faststream Maritime Employment Review shows that despite shipping industry woes, salaries across the sector continue to rise. Based on the responses of 4000 shipping professionals working in all the main shipping centres as well as seafaring officers worldwide, the survey by specialist maritime recruiter Faststream shows that half of the respondents reported a 5% + salary rise over the past 12 months. However, 30% of seafarers reported a decrease in their salary.

Faststream Opens New Perth Office

International maritime, oil & gas and mining industry recruiter Faststream opened its new Australian office in Perth today. The office will focus on filling positions for shipping companies, oil majors and mining companies active in the region. Headed by Ozan Cabadag, an Australian national with an in-depth knowledge of the Australian shipping markets, the office will give local employers access to skilled foreign workers. The move comes after the recent announcement by the Australian government that it will be streamlining the visa process for U.S. citizens, cutting down the previous three-month-plus process. “Faststream has offices in the UK, U.S. and Singapore with access to a range of very specialized people,” said Ozan Cabadag.

Alaska Selects Crowley to Monitor Cruise Ships

Crowley will implement and administer the State of Alaska's Ocean Ranger Program, beginning with the 2008 cruise ship season. The State of Alaska's Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) awarded the contract to Crowley Monday. The contract, valued at up to $4 million per fiscal year, directs Crowley to recruit, hire, train, and organize the logistics of placing up to 35 Ocean Rangers on board cruise ships this season to monitor their wastewater discharges and compliance with other pollution requirements for the state. Ocean Rangers are required as part of a new law adopted by the citizens of Alaska - the Alaska Cruise Ship Initiative- in 2006. Crowley is accepting resumes from qualified, licensed third assistant engineers or higher rating.
