Panama Flag Adopts Pole Star’s PurpleTRAC

Ship registry operations have become increasingly complex as the pervasive effect of economic sanctions causes State and private shipping operators to be less transparent with Regulators with respect to the beneficial ownership and operation of vessels. As a result, Regulators are keenly monitoring the maritime sector and Flags in particular to ensure their internal processes meet best practice guidance. Leading from the front and demonstrating its innovative credentials is the Panama Maritime Administration (AMP), which has adopted Pole Star's multi-award winning PurpleTRAC solution to ensure compliance to International sanctions across its registry operations and is the first in the sector to do so.

Panama Says Sunken Iranian Tanker had Papers in Order

The Iranian tanker that sank after a collision in the East China Sea, causing the worst oil ship disaster in years, had its paperwork in order, according an initial review by maritime authorities in Panama, whose flag it was sailing under. The large tanker Sanchi (IMO:9356608) sank on Sunday after crashing into the freighter CF Crystal (IMO:9497050) and drifting ablaze for days. Panama Maritime Authority Authorizes Dromon Bureau of Shipping

Panama Maritime Authority has authorized Dromon Bureau of Shipping (DBS) as a Classification Society, Recognized Organization (RO) and Recognized Security Organization (RSO) to perform class and statutory certification services on behalf of the Flag Administration. The agreement was signed by Fernando Solorzano, General Director of Merchant Marine of the Republic of Panama and Andreas Nicolaou, Managing Director of DBS. The signing ceremony took place on 24th of November 2017 at the presence of Honourable Jorge Barakat Pitty, Minister of Maritime Affairs of the Republic of Panama, Ms Yaritza Romero, Chief of Staff of Panama Maritime Authority and the top Management of DBS.

Panama Maritime Authority Authorizes Turk Loydu

Turk Loydu has been authorized by Panama Maritime Authority, the world’s leading maritime administration, to conduct survey and certification activities for Panama flagged ships. Worlds No.1 maritime administration Panama Maritime Authority and Turkish classification society Turk Loydu has signed an authorization transfer protocol in Istanbul on 7th November 2017. In accordance with the signed authorization Turk Loydu will be able to issue classification certificates and conduct statutory surveys and certification services for Panama flagged ships. US Counter-piracyTeam Earns Panama's Approval

Meridian’s counter-piracy teams may now operate aboard vessels flying the Panama flag, following a vetting process that validated the quality of the US-based private maritime security company. The final decision was made this week by the Panama Maritime Authority, which administers the world’s largest flag State. The vetting process included scrutiny of Meridian’s reputation, financial stability, training standards, firearms handling accountability, corporate structure and proof of ISO 9001:2008 certification.
