Mat Boat Sources Sought Notice
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Marine Design Center (MDC) will soon be releasing a sources sought notice for the construction of the Mat Boat, a 188 x 74 x 10-ftl. deck barge, for the Mat Sinking Unit (MSU) located on the Mississippi River. The barge is to be built to American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) Rules for Service on Rivers and Intracoastal Waterways. The sources sought notice is only for the construction of the barge, shown in Figure B, and not for the final product which incorporates a government furnished robotics package shown in Figure A.
Philly Shipyard Order Backlog Touches USD 187.7 mln
As of 31 December 2017, Philly Shipyard had an order backlog of USD 187.7 million. The contract with Matson (Hulls 029-030) provides for shipbuilding activity with delivery dates through Q1 2019. On 20 November 2017, Philly Shipyard delivered Hull 028, the final product tanker in the four-ship order for Philly Tankers, a Jones Act shipping company that is majority-owned (but not controlled) by Philly Shipyard. This vessel was delivered to Kinder Morgan, as assignee of Philly Tankers, ten days before its contract delivery date.
First Class Approved 3D Printed Ship’s Propeller Unveiled
The world’s first Class approved 3D printed ship’s propeller, the WAAMpeller, has been unveiled following rigorous testing verified by Bureau Veritas at Damen Shipyard Group’s headquarters in the Netherlands. The groundbreaking propeller is the result of collaboration between RAMLAB, Promarin, Autodesk, Bureau Veritas and Damen, who started pooling collective resources and knowledge to develop the world’s first 3D printed ship’s propeller seven months ago. Promarin provided the design of the triple-blade propeller.

St. Johns Delivers for Vane Brothers
St. Johns Ship Building has delivered the newly built tug Philadelphia to owner Vane Brothers. Philadelphia is the fifth of eight new hulls for Vane Brothers in the Elizabeth Anne tug series consisting of 100 feet LOA, 4,200 HP twin screw tugs. “[Philadelphia] is identical to all the others in the series in regards to specifications and outfitting but, as most shipbuilders know, when you build vessels in a series each one will be just a little better than the previous. That is true with the Philadelphia,” said Bobby Barfield, VP of Operations, St. Johns Ship Building.

US Navy Asks Lockheed to Fix Littoral Combat Ships Issues
The U.S. Navy has sent Lockheed Martin Corp three requests to correct problems, including propulsion-related issues, with the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) program dating back to May of last year, a Navy spokesman said on Tuesday. The improved sentiment surrounding the outlook for China's demand for natural resources is being reflected by rising imports for some major commodities, but as usual it pays to be wary when interpreting the numbers. Customs data released this week shows strong import growth in the first two months of the year in copper and crude oil, a more modest expansion in iron ore and a surge in imports of alumina and bauxite, the main raw materials used to make aluminium. Taken at face value this lends support to the view that China is heading for a better spring season after a gloomy autumn and winter cast a pall over the outlook for demand in the world's largest consumer of commodities.

(HMD) as part of a series of vessels being constructed for the Kuwait Oil Tanker Company S.A.K. (KOTC). The MUTRIBA was officially delivered to KOTC at a ceremony held in Kuwait on 20 October 2014. The MUTRIBA is the fourth and final Product Tanker to be constructed by HMD as part of this series under ClassNK Rules and Regulations and in line with KOTC’s strict standards on safety and environmental performance.

First-of-type Walk-to-Work Crewboat Launched
Incat Crowther announced the launch and sea trials of Muslim Magomayev, a first-of-type 70m Catamaran Fast Crew Boat (FCB). Constructed by Incat Tasmania, Muslim Magomayev is compliant with IMO HSC code and complete with a crew transfer system consisting of dynamic positioning equipment class (DP2) coupled with a walk-to-work stabilized access platform. The vessel’s operation includes fast crew transfer for 150 offshore workers to multiple offshore installations. The hull design is optimized for high speed transits with a maximized operability envelope and low incidences of sea sickness.
