Repower Brings Ferry into IMO Tier III Compliance
Norwegian ferry Bastø Fosen I is the first vessel commissioned with a globally certified International Maritime Organization (IMO) Tier III compliant marine engine that does not need urea based after treatment. The completely refurbished and repowered Bastø Fosen I has been equipped with GE’s Marine Solutions 16V250MDC, a 16 cylinder 250 mm bore marine diesel engine that is certified to meet both IMO Tier III and EPA Tier 4 emission standards, reducing key emissions by more than 70 percent, according to the engine manufacturer.
Maritime Montering Chooses Alu Design
Alu Design & Services announced that it has received its 10th contract from Maritime Montering AS, a global supplier of complete marine accommodation systems. This order is for YN 66 at STX Brevik for E.R. Schiffahrt, Germany. The cooperation between the companies began in January 2009 when Maritime Montering awarded its first contract to Alu Design. To date, the company has used Alu Design products in its deliveries to Båtbygg AS, Fiskerstrand Verft AS, Havyard Leirvik AS, Hellesøy Verft AS, Karstensens AS, STX Aukra, STX Brevik and Westcon AS. JSC Vakaru Laivu Statykla Finishes Ferry Hull
JSC Vakaru Laivu Statykla, of Western Shipyard, finished the building of passenger and car ferry hull. The hull of 106 m of length and 17,2 m of width was launched on January 6. The value of works ordered by the Norwegian company Fiskerstrand Verft AS is 3,5 million Euros. About 200 workers participated in the works of this project that lasted almost seven months, 1350 tonnes of steel was used. There will be 389 places for passengers and 118 for cars in the ferry.
