New GM for Havyard Ship Technology

Lasse Stokkeland has decided to leave his position as general manager of Havyard Ship Technology AS (HST), and the Board has appointed Erlend Hatleberg as the new general manager.Hatleberg, 43, grew up in Leirvik in Sogn and now lives in Dale in Sunnfjord.He graduated as an engineer in 2003, and has worked amongothers in Fundo. He started working in HST's technical department in 2009.Hatlebergbecame project manager 2011, and has  been responsible for deliveries of PSV ships, construction vessels and icebreakers for Russian ship-owners and now for Fjord1's new series of ferries.In connection with the management change in HST, Stig Breidvik will become new production manager. Stig is 52 and lives in Leirvik in Sogn.

Yxney, Grieg Connect Team Up with NOx Fund

The data analytics duo Yxney Maritime and Grieg Connect are partnering with the Norwegian NOx Fund to develop a data-driven digital solution for automated NOx emissions reporting. Solstad Offshore and ferry operator Fjord1 will participate in the pilot phase of the project.The Norwegian NOx Fund records NOx emissions from all vessels operating in Norwegian waters and collects a fee for emissions per vessel. Havyard Taking Over Hull Number 50 from Cemre

Havyard’s collaboration with the Turkish shipyard Cemre has been decisive in the company’s ability to deliver top-quality competitive newbuilds from its own shipyard in Leirvik in Sogn.On Saturday, August 24, Cemre Shipyard launched the hull of Havyard Ship Technology AS’s build number 144. The hull will now be towed to Leirvik for fitting out, testing and completion and is scheduled for delivery to Fjord1 in January 2020, to operate the Sandvika - Edøya service. Havyard Delivers Another Battery-Run Ferry

Havyard delivered the third battery-run ferry for the Hareid–Sulesund route to Fjord1.To ensure that the ferries run as energy efficient as possible, Havyard developed digital ferry models and incorporated them into a ‘digital Sulafjord’ made with unique weather data from the area.The Norwegian Public Roads Administration has invested more than $11.4m in measurement masts and buoys in the Sulafjord. Major Electrification Contract Awarded to NES

Norwegian Electric Systems will deliver equipment in connection with the electrification of MF Norangsfjord and the charging station at Hollingsholmen ferry quay.Norway’s biggest ferry company Fjord1 has chosen Norwegian Electric Systems (NES) to supply the electrical and automation package to be used in the modification of MF Norangsfjord. The modifications are scheduled for the last half of 2019. The ferry will serve the Aukra–Hollingsholmen route, where the quay at Hollingsholmen will be modified to include a complete charging system.

Norway-based Brunvoll AS has signed a contract with the Kongsberg Group covering delivery of propulsion systems for Yara Birkeland, the world’s first fully electric and autonomous containership.Brunvoll's delivery includes two pulling azimuth propellers for propulsion and two tunnel thrusters for maneuvering, all of which will gain power from an accompanying 6.8 MWh battery pack.Fertilizer manufacturer Yara and the Kongsberg Group is behind this first autonomous ship of its kind in the world.

The ferry business, unlike more industrial parts of the shipping business, touches wide swaths of the world’s population across continents. The membership of Interferry, the leading trade group for the industry, with non-Governmental organization (NGO) status at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) includes 200+ members from all parts of the ferry spectrum. These include passenger ferries (including fast ferries), Ro/Pax and cruise ferries operating globally. Norwegian shipbuilder Havyard has christened the first battery-powered ferry ordered by transportation company Fjord1. The christening ceremony for MF Husavik was held at the yard in Leirvik in Sogn on May 14. Rolls-Royce's Autocrossing System for 13 New Ferries

Rolls-Royce Marine has signed a deal to supply its Autocrossing system to a total of 13 new environmentally friendly ferries for the Norwegian company Fjord1. The vessels are currently being built by three yards in Turkey and two yards in Norway. All contracts also include two azipull propellers for each vessel with accompanying propeller control system from Rolls-Royce. With this contract, Rolls-Royce has sold autocrossing to a  total of 18 new ferries to operate along the coast of Norway, of which 16 have been ordered by Fjord1 and two by another Norwegian ferry company, FosenNamsos Sjø.

Fjord1 Orders Seven Battery-Powered Ferries with Havyard

Havyard Group will be delivering the design for seven battery-powered ferries to Norwegian transportation company Fjord1, five of which will be built at the company’s own shipyard. Havyard and Fjord1 will thereby continue their partnership to achieve a green revolution on the Norwegian fjords. With this contract, Havyard Group has orders for 13 battery ferries at its own yard and has sold 12 battery ferry designs. Future of the Fjords: New Zero Emission Passenger Vessel

The Fjords DA has confirmed that is building a sister ship to the diesel-electric plug-in hybrid Vision of the Fjords, launched in 2016. However, unlike its predecessor, this 42m long carbon fibre vessel will be all electric and completely emission free. The Future of the Fjords is slated for launch in April 2018. Currently under construction at specialist shipbuilder Brødrene Aa, the new vessel retains Vision of the Fjords’ eye-catching ‘mountain path’ design and environmentally friendly build, with a hull that minimizes wake and reduces shoreline impact erosion.

Fjellstrand's Rolls Out Environmental Ferry

Norwegian ship yard Fjellstrand AS has signed a contract with Norwegian ferry operator Fjord1 for the building of a new ZeroCatTM 120 car ferry. Fjellstrand was also responsible for building the car ferry MF Ampere which wrote history in 2015 as the world’s first full electrical ferry. The yard had a central position in the introduction of new battery technology in the ferry market. The new ferry is a further development of the MF Ampere and will be equipped for higher speed and longer range.
