Singapore Firms Select ABS Systems

Singapore-based offshore marine services provider PACC Offshore Services Holdings Ltd (POSH) and the maritime logistics solutions provider Pacific Carriers Limited (PCL) have selected ABS Nautical Systems  (NS) fleet management software to support their digitalization strategy.Both PCL and POSH are part of Kuok Singapore Limited (KSL) Maritime Group of companies, with competencies extending across offshore marine services, commercial shipping and marine engineering. Both POSH and PCL operate a combined fleet of 245 vessels including tankers, bulkers as well as offshore support vessels.The deal is for multiple NS modules to support the digitalization of workflows including fleet maintenance, purchasing and compliance.

Canada’s Asterix Completes Navy Trials

Canada’s first Resolve-Class Naval Support Ship, Asterix, has been formally accepted by the Department of National Defense and has now entered full operational service with the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) and Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) following a period of at-sea trials and testing, announced Davie Shipbuilding and Federal Fleet Services. Asterix performed daily replenishment-at-sea (RAS) exercises with the RCN and conducted extensive RCAF CH-148 Cyclone helicopter operations to prove and demonstrate the capabilities of the Resolve-Class Naval Support Ship.

Newport News Promotes Two

Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) announced two promotions to the company’s leadership team at its Newport News Shipbuilding division: Dave Bolcar has been promoted to vice president of submarine construction, and Bill Smith has been promoted to vice president, fleet support programs. Having most recently served as director of the Columbia-class program, Bolcar is now vice president of submarine construction, which currently encompasses both the Virginia- and Columbia-class submarine programs.

Davie Launches Resolve-Class Naval Support Ship

Davie Shipbuilding announced that during the weekend it launched the largest naval vessel ever to be delivered from a Canadian shipyard – on time, to budget and at an internationally competitive cost. Commissioning of all onboard systems began in early September and on the 16th November 2017, the ship will perform its sea-trials prior to achieving Full Operational Capability (FOC). US Navy Accepts delivery of 7th Austal EPF

Austal USA’s Expeditionary Fast Transport (EPF) team finalized the delivery of USNS Carson City (EPF 7) to the U.S. Navy during a small document-signing event held onboard the ship on June 24, 2016. The EPF program provides the Navy with a new high-speed intra-theater transport capability. The 338-foot long Carson City is an aluminum catamaran capable of transporting 600 tons, 1,200 nautical miles at an average speed of 35 knots, and is designed to operate in austere ports and waterways, providing added flexibility to U.S. warfighters worldwide.

Davie Begins First Resolve-Class AOR Conversion

Davie Shipbuilding has cut first steel for the Resolve Class Auxiliary Oiler Replenishment vessel. The project consists of converting a containership into an Auxiliary Oiler Replenishment (AOR) ship to support the operations of the Royal Canadian Navy. Malaysian Shipping Masterplan by Year-end

The Malaysian Shipping Masterplan draft, which seeks to identify issues and make recommendations on the criticality of the shipping industry, will be ready by 2015-end, Bernama reported as Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai saying. “The masterplan would elaborate and recommend appropriate strategies and measures to revitalise the shipping industry in particular and the supporting industry in general and it would change the entire spectrum of Malaysian shipping and propel the shipping industry to greater heights,” Tiong Lai said. Liow said shipping is crucial to Malaysia as it is the means of connectivity and a lifeline to the country's economy since more than 95 per cent of the country's trade is seaborne.

AAL Fleet to Expand, Surpass 500,000 DWT in 2015

Global ocean transport operator AAL today announced plans to increase the size of its fleet to over 500,000 dwt in 2015. Comprising owned and chartered vessels, the move will add needed capacity to the multi-purpose sector’s youngest and most advanced fleet, in support of growing global demand, the company said. The company also announced it had doubled revenues in the past two years, increased its market share in core regions and grown from an Austral-Asian carrier to a global operator with the expansion of its fleet, trade routes, services and operational infrastructure.

Foss Maritime announced that Carl Smith has recently joined the company as the Director of Sales and Marketing for its Fleet Services Division based out of Seattle. He will be reporting to Mike Magill, Vice President of Fleet Services. Previously employed by Alaska Ship and Dry Dock (ASD), Smith was part of the ASD Management Team for 18 years. Early in his career, his responsibilities at ASD included Management of Production and Operations and, prior to joining Foss, he served as Director of Marketing.

Class Direct App Launched by Lloyd’s Register

This new app, using the functionality of LR’s award-winning web service Class Direct, has been specifically designed to give users access to the information they need whenever and wherever, and is available now for free on iPhone, iPad and Android devices. Users of the Class Direct app are able to book a survey with LR, monitor and check the status of their vessel’s surveys, browse the classification data LR holds for specific vessels and create a list of their “favorite” vessels for quicker access.

Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) has acquired The S.M. Stoller Corporation (Stoller), a leading provider of environmental, nuclear, and technical consulting and engineering services to the Department of Energy, Department of Defense and the private sector. Stoller will be a wholly owned subsidiary of HII and will operate under its NNS division. NNS is the nation's sole designer, builder and refueler of nuclear-powered aircraft carriers and one of only two shipyards capable of designing and building nuclear‐powered submarines.

MARIS ECDIS Marks 30-unit Deal in Turkey

A run of orders for MARIS has culminated in a 30-system deal covering the delivery of its ECDIS900 system to Turkish customers. The deal highlights the longstanding relationship between MARIS and w marine electronics distribution and service specialist STT International Ltd. It covers existing and future STT requirements to deliver MARIS ECDIS900 to Turkish owners and shipyards. STT reports that the first systems are committed to general cargo vessel newbuildings due delivery to Yildirim Group from the Marmara Shipyard before the end of 2013.

OceanSaver has supplied and commissioned its first ballast water treatment system to gain classification society DNV’s approval.

OceanSaver has supplied and commissioned its first ballast water treatment system to gain classification society DNV’s approval as a retrofit installation. The project was completed over the summer of 2011 on the car carrier Höegh Trove, operated by Höegh Autoliners and managed by Höegh Fleet Services. The installation precedes the mandatory requirements of the IMO 2004 International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships’ Ballast Water and Sediments to prevent the spread of marine invasive species via ballast water.
