Ukraine Seeking Ways to Get its Grain Out

Ukraine is seeking ways to get grain and vegetable oils out of the country by breaking a months-long blockade of the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea by the Russian navy and moving more by land.The war, together with Western sanctions against Russia, have sent the price of grain, cooking oil, fertilizer, and energy soaring.That in turn, is threatening a global food crisis as many countries count on Russia and Ukraine for more than half of their wheat imports, including some of the poorest.Russia and Ukraine together account for nearly a third of the global wheat supply…

India Braces as Cyclone Hurtles Towards East Coast

V olunteers, disaster management officials and aid workers conducted mock evacuation drills in hundreds of villages along India's east coast on Friday as a powerful cyclone approached, threatening devastation to farmland and fishing hamlets. Cyclone Hudhud was about 470 km (292 miles) offshore on Friday, satellite images showed, and was expected to hit land around the key port city of Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday morning. It will also impact neighbouring Odisha state. The cyclone, forecast to bring gusts of up to 155 kph (96 mph), could disrupt the lives of millions, the Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System (GDACS) run by the United Nations and the European Commission said. "Up to 7.2 million people can be affected by wind speeds of cyclone strength or above.

Inchcape Shipping Services Wins Major UN Contract in Somalia

Inchcape Shipping Serviceshas been awarded a major three year contract with the United Nations to supply food and bottled water to thousands of AMISOM troops in Somalia. The UN chose ISS as the preferred provider to deliver its food rations to the 12,000 troops currently deployed by AMISOM (The African Union Mission in Somalia). AMISOM conducts peace support operations to stabilise the country and is a regional peacekeeping mission approved by the United Nations. On signing the contract at the UN Building in New York, Jesper Steenbuch, Executive Vice President for ISS Supply Chain Solutions, said: “This award signifies ISS’ continued expansion into supply chain management and is a major milestone directly in line with our overall business strategy.
