Weighing over 800 ton - roughly four times the weight of a blue whale -,  and spanning over 300 ft., the splitter vessel is the biggest load to ever be moved on Alberta's highways.On the evening of January 6th Mammoet began the transport for the giant splitter vessel. The vessel left Dacro Industries, where it was constructed, and began it’s 3 day transport journey from Edmonton to Fort Saskatchewan, AB.The splitter vessel is a key part of the process at Inter Pipeline’s Heartland Petrochemical Complex where propane will be converted into recyclable plastic pellets, known as polypropylene, which will then be used to make items such as computers, medical equipment and food storage containers.

VT Halter Marine, Inc. announced the award for detailed design and construction (DD&C) for two Firm and up to four Optional Auxiliary Personnel Lighter Small APL-67 Class berthing barges by the U. S. Department of the Navy. These vessels were awarded to VT Halter Marine September 17th, 2018 in response to the Limited Competition Solicitation N00024-17-R-2230.Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) has awarded both APL-67 and APL-68 to VT Halter Marine with deliveries for the vessels anticipated for the second and third calendar quarter of 2020, respectively. Should the Navy exercise all of the options to purchase the remaining four vessels (i.e.: APL Vessels 69-72) with associated supplies and services, the contract award would be in excess of $244 million.

For more than 100 years the U.S. has depended on State Maritime Academies (SMA) to produce USCG licensed merchant officers. The SMA’s have also been an important source of U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard officers, as well as trained personnel for the maritime industry and electric power industries ashore. Key to training these future deck officers and engineers has been the annual sea cruise on dedicated training vessels. The current SMA training ships, all of which were built for other purposes and later converted to be training ships, are getting old.

By 2021, eight frigates from the Royal Australian Navy will be equipped with innovative NOSKE-KAESER technologies. Interferry has unveiled a strategic plan promising to put safety issues at the heart of its work as the voice of the worldwide ferry industry. The pledge came at the global trade association’s 41st annual conference in Manila – a venue chosen to spotlight the challenges of domestic ferry safety in developing nations. According to Interferry, the plan signals its overriding ambition to help lift ferry safety in all parts of the world to the very high standard already in place in North America and Europe, where casualties in recent decades have been extremely rare.

A new high-end tour vessel is scheduled to be delivered to for Mary D Cruises of New Caledonia in late 2016. Designed by Incat Crowther with styling reminiscent of a yacht, the new vessel is being built by Strategic Marine to replace an existing vessel in Mary D Cruises’ fleet. The main deck is arranged to support the transit operation by day and dinner cruises in the evening to tourist destination Amedee Island. The deck features 108 passenger seats primarily in booth seating with tables, an outdoor servery with chilled food storage and food display area.

Rapido Gee, a 42m steel monohull utility vessel, has been delivered and is currently in transit to the Middle East. The vessel will be operated by Rashied Marine Services in the service of offshore platforms. Designed by Incat Crowther and built by Strategic Marine, Rapido Gee is a further development of the design used for the 10 vessel fleet of Infield Utility Vessels delivered by the shipbuilder. In response to calls for construction simplicity, Incat Crowther reengineered the vessel with mild steel used in the hull in place of the original high tensile steel.

Incat Crowther’s first-of-type Catamaran Dive Support Vessel, Bhagwan Dryden, was launched and delivered earlier this year. According to the designer, operational feedback has been positive for the vessel, which has already received praise for initial operations, including mooring inspection carried out by ROV and operations under four point mooring and DP in shallow, rough seas. Incat Crowther announced the first deliveries of a 10-boat order for 42m Infield Utility Vessels to Brunei’s PTAS Marine. Developed in conjunction with builder Strategic Marine, the project called upon Incat Crowther’s track record in steel crew boats to meet strict performance criteria. PTAS has been contracted by Brunei Shell Petroleum to build and operate nine vessels to support their offshore platforms for a period of ten years. Incat Crowther say they supported Strategic Marine in their winning technical proposal for the construction of ten 42m Infield Utility Vessels (IUV) for Brunei's PTAS Marine, and the first boat has now been delivered. Strategic Marine called in Incat to assist in their technical proposal for the project, committing to a timeframe of just 15 months from contract signing to the delivery of the ninth vessel. The tenth boat will be retained by PTAS as a backup vessel throughout the contract period.

Incat Crowther contracted to design a 56m Catamaran Dive Support Vessel (DSV) for Bhagwan Marine, for operation by dive specialists Neptune Marine Services. The vessel has been designed from the keel up to perform six key roles; Dive Support, Geophysical Survey, Geotechnical Survey, Cargo Transport, Hyperbaric Rescue and Safety Standby. With such a varied array of operational roles, unique solutions were required not only in the allocation of spaces, but also with the specification of a flexible, high-redundancy propulsion system.

Predictive Sensor Technologies (PST), introduces its Wireless Environmental Temperature, Humidity and Dew point Sensor/Transmitter, (PST-THD) which, alerts the user via text or email when pre-set targets are reached. Austal’s largest catamaran built to date, the 113 metre “Leonora Christina”, was recently handed over to her owners, marking completion of construction of the high speed vehicle-passenger ferry at Austal’s Henderson shipyard. “Leonora Christina” was constructed for Danish company Færgen (formerly Nordic Ferry Services) and is due to depart Austal’s Henderson shipyard for Denmark this week, where it will be operated by Bornholmer Færgen, a subsidiary of Færgen. “Leonora Christina” will join the 86 metre Austal-built catamaran…

A&P Falmouth has confirmed that the RFA Brambleleaf has successfully completed its latest refit at their facility. The vessel dry docked in Falmouth on May 1 for a refit and repair program which included full hull coating preparation and painting, rudder repairs, propeller blade replacement, remedial work on the anchors and cables, a full overhaul of the ships salt water system and also a major repair/remedial work program carried out on the ships cargo and ballast systems. All within tight parameters of both time and quality control. Further work was carried out after the vessel undocked. This involved the refurbishment of the crews living quarters, freshwater system, galley and food storage areas and the installation of a new sewage treatment plant.

There are several large offshore service vessels working in the Gulf of Mexico, but none so big and powerful as the Laney Chouest. At 348 ft. long by 72 ft. wide with a 31-ft. deep hull, the Laney Chouest simply dwarfs anything in the Gulf. Built by Edison Chouest Offshore, Galliano, La. at their North American Shipbuilding facility, the vessel is already at work in the Gulf on a charter for Shell Offshore. "This vessel was designed and built for a very specific mission-to preset mooring systems in 10,000 ft. of water safely and efficiently," said Roger White, senior vice president of Edison Chouest Offshore. "The real market for this vessel will be in the 5,000-10,000 ft.

In testimony before the U.S. House of Representatives on the matter of Cruise Ship Safety, U.S. coast Guard Rear Admiral Robert C. North, Assistant Commandant for Marine Safety and Environmental Protection, made some interesting observations. Central to his testimony, however, was a call for support of the USCG Deepwater recapitalization of cutters, aircraft and CFISR (command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, sensors, and reconnaissance), a bolstering of assets critical to offshore rescue operations, particularly if the offloading of thousands of passengers from today's large cruise ships, was ever needed. Austal Ships has been selected to supply a fleet of 10 patrol boats to the Republic of Yemen, Ministry of Defence. Based on a proven hullform, the 123 ft. (37.5 m) aluminium monohulls will provide the level of capability the Yemenis require in a reliable, simple to operate vessel that is easy to maintain. The low risk that such a combination ensures is also being provided at a low acquisition cost for the purchaser, with the total contract price for the 10 vessels, spares, and a substantial package of training for 60 personnel coming in at well under $55 million. The keys to achieving this highly cost-effective package are the efficient, high productivity design and manufacturing techniques that Austal has developed through the construction of more than 90 boats over 15 years.
