CITB Expands North Slope Operations

Port of Everett Facelifts South Terminal

In 137.215 (4) a surveyor has to examine systems in support of drills and training to ensure that it operates as intended. Jensen Maritime, Crowley Maritime Corp.’s Seattle-based naval architecture and marine engineering company, has provided the detailed design for an initial four, with an option for six additional, Tier IV tractor tugboats being built by Nichols Brother Boat Builders for Foss Maritime.The 90-short ton bollard pull tugs are based on Jensen’s popular Valor tugboat design, of which 9 have been successfully built and deployed to date and an additional five remain under design/construction. Project Manager to Temporarily Lead Alaska Operations. Cook Inlet Tug & Barge (CITB), an independently managed subsidiary of Foss Maritime Company, announced that Foss project manager Amber Thomas has been selected as interim Business Operations Manager for Anchorage. Beginning January 2, Thomas will serve as the central point person for administrative and commercial operations, leading all shoreside activities in Anchorage and Seward. Thomas will take on the temporary position while the search continues for a new president to replace former CITB head Ben Stevens.

NBBB to Build Four Foss Tractor Tugs

Foss Maritime of Seattle has entered into contract with Nichols Brothers Boat Builders (NBBB) of Freeland, Wash. for the construction of four new 90-ton bollard pull tractor tugs, with an option for six additional tugs to follow. The contract marks the first between Foss Maritime and Nichols Brothers Boat Builders.Foss has selected a design by Jensen Maritime Consultants of Seattle. The 100’ x 40’ Z-Drive tractor tugs will be built to United States Coast Guard Subchapter “M” regulatory standards, with ABS loadline certification, and UWILD notation.

New Kāpena Class Tug Ready to Enter Service in Hawaii.The first of four new ocean-going tugs designed by Damen USA, and built by Louisiana-based Conrad Shipyard, has been delivered to Young Brothers – an independent subsidiary of Foss Maritime. Dellner Brakes: Serving Inland and Coastal Waterways Markets

A luffing and trolley travel hoist for bagged material used by two vessel loaders at Lake Charles, Louisiana. The hoists are fitted with Dellner SKP service brakes with mounting stands installed between the hoist motors and the reduction gears. The brakes were also manufactured with extra protection to prevent corrosion from sea water.

Dellner provides a range of clutch and braking products for the inland (brown water) and coastal workboat markets. Dellner products are used in a wide range of workboats including tugs, fishing boats and coast guard vessels. Foss Ships Utility Trucks to Puerto Rico

At the Port of Virginia in Norfolk and the Port of Lake Charles in Louisiana, Foss Maritime is loading hundreds of utility trucks onto barges bound for Puerto Rico this week. It’s all part of the on-going effort to restore power to nearly half of the population who are without electricity. Last Friday, Ricardo Rosselló, governor of Puerto Rico, announced that 1.5 million Puerto Ricans are still without power 100 days after Hurricane Maria hit Sept. 20. As part of the on-going power restoration effort, Foss is working with a coalition of 19 U.S.

Foss Inks Deal to Build Damen Tugs

Foss Maritime and Netherlands-based Damen Shipyards have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to produce and market the Damen ASD 2813 tug. The tug design has been modified to meet the unique demands of the U.S. tug assist and escort market. The first four of a series of at least 10 tugs will be constructed at the Foss Rainier, Ore., Shipyard, with delivery planned for 2019. While Foss will construct the tugs to supplement and enhance their fleet, tugs of this build series will be available for purchase by other U.S. tug operators.
