Alu Design Operator Chair Lands Star Role In 'Transformers: Age of Extinction'

Norway’s Alu Design is set to make its Hollywood debut in the latest Transformers blockbuster, with the news that its MH OCH 300 operator chair has secured a role in Paramount Pictures’ Transformers: Age of Extinction. The seat, created for Aker Solutions in 2012, will now be seen “at the heart” of the film’s set design, starring alongside actors such as Mark Wahlberg, Kesley Grammer and Stanley Tucci. It’s a bewildering development for Kristiansand-based Alu Design, a market leader in the design and manufacture of advanced pilot chairs and deck rails. The firm created the chair to offer new ergonomic and user-friendly standards for operators working in the restricted space of Drillers Cabins on offshore rigs… not for science fiction action films.

Austal Awards Alu Design Major Contract

Alu Design & Services (Alu Design) has secured a substantial contract with Austal, a world leader in the manufacture of fast ferries and naval vessels, to provide advanced pilot chairs for a new series of eight patrol boats for the Commonwealth of Australia’s Customs and Border Protection fleet. Alu Design will provide a total of 40 chairs for Austal’s cutting-edge patrol boats, equipping the ships with its lightweight and ergonomically designed Alutech 200 and Alutech 500 products. NORAC Completes Tests

Seven cabin products delivered by NORAC have completed rigorous high-level shock and vibration testing. The company says that the shock and vibration tests were necessary to qualify its range of cabin products for the demanding naval market. “Shock and vibrating testing creates an environment that will show in a short period of time how products stand under adverse field conditions and through out years of change. Though not that common when delivering to merchant and cruise vessels, this type of testing is very necessary to NORAC’s new business area: naval ships and frigates, says Frank Robertsen, director of marketing, NORAC.
