Chakraborty Appointed Branch Manager, GAC Bangalore

GAC Shipping (India) Pvt Ltd has appointed Mukesh Chakraborty as the Branch Manager, Logistics Services for its Bangalore office. Mukesh brings 13 years of experience in freight forwarding, customs clearance, transportation and warehousing and distribution to his new role. GAC is tapping into growing logistics business potential in Bangalore, India’s fastest growing major metropolis. The city is also a major hub for Business Process Outsourcing and specialised services like information technology and aeronautics. Mark Delaney, GAC Shipping India’s Managing Director, says that with Mukesh at the helm, the company’s Bangalore office is ready to take on the opportunities.

GAC celebrates 30 years in India

GAC India has celebrated 30 years of operation in the country with an event held at the Trident, Bandra Kurla Complex. GAC Shipping (India) Pvt. Ltd. was the first GAC office to open in the Indian Subcontinent. Operations began in 1985 with the first agency appointment for a vessel calling at Mangalore. From just two staff working from an office in Cochin back then, GAC India has now grown into a company with close to 400 employees nationwide. Fredrik Nyström, Group Vice President, Asia Pacific, GAC Group, commented on the milestone: “With approximately 95% of the country’s trade by volume being handled through sea, there is no doubt shipping plays a vital role in India’s economy.

New Maximum Draft Restriction at Jaigarh Port

Jaigarh Port authorities have advised that from today the post monsoon maximum permissible draft [at Jaigarh Port] shall be 13.5 metres with tide. Exemption from priority berth hire charges at Kandla

Kandla Port Trust has acceded to the request of the Fertlizer Companies/Fertilizer Association of India to exempt vessels arriving in Kandla carrying fertilizer cargo from the payment of priority berth hire charges specified at Note No.(7) of General Notes relating to Schedules 3.1 to 3.5 of the current Scale of Rates. This is with a view to arrest the declining trend of fertilizer traffic, attraxct additional fertilizer traffic and bring down the cost of fertilizer handling at the port. This exemption shall be valid until 31 March 2015 and is effective from 23 May 2014.   GAC India

Mumbai Port's Storm Gate Closure

Mumbai Port has announced that from 1 June 2014 to 11 September 2014, due to repairs to the outer lock gate, there will be no shipping operations inside Indira Dock Basin during night and the storm will remain closed at night.   During the day, the storm gate will not be operated. Shipping movements will occur approximately 3 hours before highwater to top of highwater,depending upon the prevailing tidal and weather conditions.Source: Mumbai Port Trust     GAC India at [email protected]

Port of Mumbai: Monsoon Season & Availability of Anchorages

The foul weather season has been declared from May 25 to August 31, in the Port of Mumbai. During this period, the anchorage area of the [Mumbai] inner harbour is restricted to a line, which is normally north of the Sunk Rock Light House position. Hence, the number of anchorages that can be utilized would be restricted due to non-availability of anchorages to the south of this line. There is a possibility that A-3 anchorage also may not be available. Mumbai Port Trust will try and accommodate as many vessels as possible but may have to deny anchorage facilities due to non-availability of anchorage berths. The cargo working anchorage berths will be allotted on a first-come-first-serve basis…

GAC appointed as Sarjak's Liner Agent in Chennai

GAC India has entered into an agency agreement with Mumbai-based Sarjak Container Lines Pvt Ltd (Sarjak), to handle its operations requirement in Chennai. This latest development comes twelve months after its appointment to manage Sarjak's operations in Delhi and northern India. Sarjak specializes in the transportation of Over Dimensioned Cargo (ODC) in containers, by its fleet of hard top, open top, flat rack, super rack and GP containers. Sarjak's substantial asset base of special equipment enables the company to handle shipments that cannot fit into normal containers. The main cargoes handled from the region include transformers, boilers, chiller units, pressure vessels, sugar manufacturing plants, oil well equipment, and various engineering goods.

GAC India Opens Pipavav Office

Branch will coordinate support for Mumbai High oil field. GAC India has opened a new office in Pipavav to cater to the needs of the growing number of vessels calling at the port and principals using it as a base for operations in the Mumbai High oil field, off the country’s west coast. With this expansion, GAC has a total of 27 offices in 22 locations across India. The new office at the Gujurati port is fully licensed, equipped and manned to provide a wide range of ship agency services and to handle cargo shipments, spare parts, customs clearance, and much more.
