Knutsen NYK Offshore Tankers (KNOT), owner and operator of shuttle tanker operator, announced that it has been awarded a contract to build two  liquefied natural gas (LNG) fueled Shuttle Tanker.According to the fully integrated industrial shipping company, the two new 124,000 DWT LNG fueled shuttle tankers will be built by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. Ltd shipyard in Korea with delivery mid-2022 and the vessels will operate in North Sea under time-charter contract for a maximum 10 years period.The vessels will be able to reduce emissions of CO2 equivalents significantly compared to conventional oil-fueled shuttle tankers…

Speakers set to fuel energy debate at Unconventional Gas Aberdeen 2014. Leading figures from industry and government speaking at Unconventional Gas Aberdeen 2014 will tomorrow highlight the impact U.K. shale development could have on reducing costly gas imports but admit that more needs to be done to reassure communities on aspects such as fracking. With more than 50 percent of U.K. gas supplies now coming from imports, predominantly from Norway and the Middle East, shale gas is being promoted as part of the solution in creating a secure and affordable energy mix.

The China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) will invest $12.5b in gas and oil exploration in the next five years, CRI reported. By 2010, more than 50 new gas and oil fields of CNOOC Limited will be completed and put into production. The new fields, 24 of which are under construction and 13 under development assessment, are mainly located in East China's Bohai Sea, the Pearl River estuary and the Beibu Gulf in the South China Sea. By 2010, CNOOC Limited will have a production capacity of 50 million tons of oil equivalent, including 38 million tons of crude oil and 12.6 billion cubic meters of gas. (Source: CRI)

Greenpeace won its bid to delay oil exploration in the north Atlantic when a judge ruled the British government was failing to apply a European Commission environmental directive in allocating licenses. "The decision is a huge victory for whales, dolphins and coral reefs," Peter Melchett, the environmental group's executive director, told reporters after the ruling. The government is considering an appeal against the judgment that it is not taking into account the Commission's Habitats Directive in issuing exploration licenses. A spokesman said the government had been planning to issue new licenses in its 19th round early in 2000, but this was likely to be delayed.
