Morocco is studying options at several ports to build a floating or land-based facility to import liquefied natural gas (LNG), Energy Minister Leila Benali said on Friday.Morocco relied for much of its gas needs - about 1 billion cubic meters (bcm) annually – on a pipeline that used to channel Algerian gas to Spain, until it was halted last October by Algiers, against the backdrop of worsening relations between the Maghreb's most populous countries.Whether floating or onshore, studies are underway to choose the "most immediate solution", Benali told reporters. The country tendered in January fo

NOIA Applauds Proposed Repeal of Royalty Valuation Rule

“NOIA supports repeal of Interior’s 2017 Royalty Valuation Rule, which would have created a cloud of regulatory uncertainty, put at risk billions of dollars of federal oil and gas leases and left much needed jobs and revenue for America on the able. The offshore industry, which accounts for nearly a quarter of our nation’s domestically produced oil and natural gas, needs a clear, consistent and fair regulatory environment to thrive. “NOIA applauds Secretary Zinke for taking steps to repeal the rule and reevaluate changes to long-established royalty valuation regulations. The actions proposed by Interior today will enhance a climate of regulatory certainty and clarity, helping ensure that the U.S. remains the global energy leader.

India in Global Hunt for LNG

India is scouting for new liquefied natural gas (LNG) contracts globally as part of a push to secure cheap supplies for its under-utilized gas-fired power plants, reports Bloomberg. Australia, Qatar and Iran could all act as potential suppliers of long-term LNG contracts, power minister Piyush Goyal said in Sydney. The global search for LNG comes as India’s gas-fired plants, which can generate nearly 25 gigawatts of power, run at less than a quarter of their capacity because of a shortage of the fuel at affordable prices. “I think gas needs to be between $5 and $5.50 landed at my power plant. That is what I’m looking for in the medium- to long-term,” Goyal said. In fact, a boom in LNG demand and projects is taking shape in India.

Pakistan Seeks Another LNG Import Terminal

Government aims for second terminal startup by mid-2017. Pakistan has launched a tender for a second liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal, a government official said on Tuesday. The nation of 190 million people can only supply about two-thirds of its gas needs. The ruling party, which campaigned on promises of solving the energy crisis, wants to ease shortages by expanding LNG shipments before a 2018 general election. The official, who declined to be named, said the tender was launched earlier this month with a request for proposal (RFP) by Jan. 24. The government wants the terminal, to be built at Port Qasim in the southern city of Karachi, to be operational by around mid-2017, the official said.

Over 200,000 cubic meters of fuel will be transpoerted to Poland by Qatargas. Just a few days ago, PAP reported that following an audit of the terminal in Świnoujście, the Qatar-based company has confirmed that the facility is ready to receive the first batch of liquefied gas in mid-December. The terminal, one of the largest Polish energy investments in recent years, was officially opened in September by the then prime minister, Ewa Kopacz.

SMART Institute Conference Focuses on Skilled Professionals

After 20 days offshore, Colton Hendrick and Blake Snapp are back on land, preparing for their next journey out on the water as new maritime interns with Higman Marine Services. And they love it. "It can be tough work at times, but the beauty is seeing the sun rise and set each day," said Snapp. Plus, the money and job security are incentives as well. Both Snapp and Hendrick stand to earn approximately $100,000 by the fifth year of their first maritime job. Also, with many fellow mariners talking about upcoming retirement, the idea of becoming captains isn't far-fetched either, especially when they will hold associate degrees in maritime technology.

Turkey: Iraqi Kurdistan Exports Continue

Turkish Energy Minister Taner Yildiz said on Monday 6.5 million barrels of Iraqi Kurdish crude oil had been shipped to world markets via Turkey's Ceyhan port since exports began and that a seventh tanker was being loaded at the terminal. Yildiz said crude flow on the Kirkuk-Ceyhan pipeline had been halted as of Monday due to maintenance work. Flows through the 120,000 barrel-per-day (bpd) pipeline began at the end of 2013 but the first cargo was not loaded until May. The Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) in northern Iraq, whose peshmerga forces are being supported by U.S. air strikes in their battle against the radical Sunni militants of the Islamic State, has been in a long constitutional fight with Baghdad over independent oil sales.

Croatia Resurrects LNG terminal Plans

Croatia prepares financial plan for LNG terminal; EU sees the Krk terminal helping Europe's energy independence. Croatia has reopened a feasibility study for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in the northern Adriatic which should help diversify energy supplies for central Europe, economy minister Ivan Vrdoljak said on Tuesday. The idea is to make the terminal on the island of Krk the southern end of a gas pipeline corridor connecting Croatia and Poland's Baltic port of Swinoujscie to help diversify gas supply routes for central Europe and cut dependence on Russian imports. "The potential LNG terminal on Krk has been recognised by the European Commission as an important project for the European Union's energy independence.
