ABB to Service World's Largest Floating Facility

ABB announced it has has won a five-year contract to deliver equipment and services for Shell's Prelude FLNG, the world's first floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility, the largest floating facility ever built. ABB's equipment will minimize downtime and optimize the efficiency of the facility. The order includes the delivery of motors, generators, variable speed drives and low-voltage switchgear and guarantees service and lifecycle management of the electrical equipment as well as service and support for motors from third-party vendors.

Middle East Heavy Lifts UK Bound

Maximizing her deck space capacity, ‘MV Lone’, the largest SAL vessel, has loaded eleven gas plant modules in the UAE. SAL say that their other heavy-lift vessels MV Gloria and MV Trina were also engaged in the project carrying similar modules from Kuwait and UAE to the UK, totaling more than 55,000 cbm of modules and associated equipment. Individually, MV Lone stowed an overall 25,020 cu.m on board – both in the hatch and on deck. The modules weigh up to 388 m tons and have measurements of up to 31 x 10 x 11 m. The modules are destined for a gas plant in the UK.

Crowley Completes Discharge of Gas Plant Modules

Crowley Maritime Corporation's energy and marine services has safely completed the tug-and-barge transportation and discharge and delivery of oversized cargo across a remote beach in Cabinda Province Angola, West Africa to the Cabinda Gas Plant. In partnership with Chicago Bridge and Iron (CB&I) and Cabinda Gulf Oil Company (CABGOC), a wholly owned Chevron subsidiary, Crowley was contracted for the loading, marine transportation, discharging and delivery of oversize modules and support accessories to the Cabinda Gas Plant, which is about three miles from the beach landing point. The fleet required for the sealift included large (400 x100-ft.) barges, powerful ocean going tugs, small lighter tugs to assist in the beaching operation and a myriad of support equipment.
