China Classification Society (CCS) is reporting the successful surveying of the world’s first 100,000 DWT deep-water semi-submersible floating production storage and offloading installation (FPSO).Dubbed Shen Hai Yi Hao, the platform is formally commencing production after being installed at the Lingshui (LS) 17-2 gas field in the South China Sea following an announcement by Wang Dongjin, the chairman of its operator China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) which is China's largest producer of offshore crude oil and natural gas.

Saudi Arabian oil giant Saudi Aramco has awarded a contract to China Harbour Engineering Arabia for the construction of two  drilling islands under the company’s Berri Increment Program (BIP).The objective of the BIP is to produce an additional 250,000 barrels per day of Arabian Light crude oil from the Berri Oil Field to reach 500,000 barrels per day to maintain Saudi Aramco’s maximum sustained capacity by early 2023.A signing ceremony to mark the contract award was held in Dhahran. The Gazprom Management Committee addressed the Company's large-scale efforts aimed at implementing the Eastern Gas Program. It was noted that the gas industry growth in Russia's East was strategically important for the socioeconomic development of eastern regions. The Company is active in expanding its resource base in eastern Russia as well as putting in place its gas production, transmission and processing capacities. A long-term balance plan for Gazprom's natural gas from the Irkutsk and Yakutia gas production centers was drawn up to ensure the execution of the contract for pipeline gas supply to China signed in May 2014 with due consideration of gas supply to Russian consumers via the Power of Siberia gas pipeline.

A project consortium that includes RWE Dea has signed a major contract for the construction of a natural gas processing plant and infrastructure in the Algerian Sahara for the Reggane Nord project. The contract is valued at US$976 million and represents an important step forward for the project. Representatives of the Groupement Reggane of which RWE Dea is a partner signed the contract to construct the natural gas processing facilities and corresponding infrastructure including the gathering network and export pipeline on Thursday. The USDollar976 million contract was awarded to Petrofac International (UAE) LLC and stipulates completion of the facilities within 36 months. After completion the plant will be operated with a gas troughput capacity of around 283 million cubic feet per day.

Ziff Energy and Gas Processing Management Inc. analyze the gas growth areas of the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin in Alberta and British Columbia. (GPMi) announced the launch of the Gas West for LNG Growth Study, which analyzes the gas growth areas of the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin in Alberta and British Columbia as key suppliers of natural gas to the developing liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities on the West Coast of British Columbia (Canada) and Oregon (United States). The proponents of 16 natural gas liquefaction (NGL) and export facilities have applied to the Canadian National Energy Board for licenses to export gas volumes or have announced potential projects.

Rolls-Royce has been awarded a strategic contract to supply Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Company (ADMA-OPCO) with power generation equipment and related services to help boost oil and gas processing at the Satah Al- Razboot (SARB) offshore project in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The contract was awarded by the Korean engineering, procurement and construction firm Hyundai Engineering and Construction (HDEC) and is the first Trent 60 gas turbine sale to a Korean EPC. The SARB project, say Rolls-Royce, will play a key role in boosting domestic oil and gas production in the UAE.

Nippon Steel Engineering Co. is bolstering its operating structure in a bid to win contracts spanning everything from design to construction of crude oil and natural gas processing facilities at sea. The Nippon Steel Corp. unit plans to win complete orders for marine central processing platforms, which extract carbon dioxide, mercury and impurities from crude and natural gas drilled from the seabed. To do so, it has beefed up the functions of an Indonesian subsidiary that handles sales and engineering in Southeast Asia and it will begin undertaking some design operations and such work as heat and pipe wear analyses that have been outsourced to date. On top of upgrading a Thai plant, the company has also been hiring local engineers experienced in building central processing platforms.

With the global LNG (liquefied natural gas) market forecast to double in size over the next decade, industry is readying to provide ample liquefaction capacity to meet demand. In the United States alone, LNG imports reached 4.9 million tons in 2000, about 5 percent of the global LNG trade, and up from 3.4 million tons in 1999. Drivers for the rapid LNG growth include continued demand for a cleaner-burning fuel and the need to bring "stranded" gas from deepwater and remote areas to market.
