Russian energy company Novatek said on Sunday it had been forced to suspend some operations at a huge Baltic Sea fuel export terminal due to a fire started by what Ukrainian media said was a drone attack.The giant Ust-Luga complex, located on the Gulf of Finland about 170 km (110 miles) west of St. Petersburg, is used to ship oil and gas products to international markets. CapeOmega and Neptune Energy on Wednesday announced NoordKaap, a project concept for a cross-border CO₂ storage solution for industrial emitters across Europe. According to Neptune Energy, NoordKaap would involve transporting CO2 via vessels suitable for directly injecting the CO₂ at offshore locations and for terminal offloading. Belgium-based shipowner Exmar is partnering up with a Canadian fertilizer company to build jointly develop and build a low-carbon, ammonia-fueled vessel which they aim to deploy as early as 2025."Partners for over three decades in transporting ammonia globally, Nutrien is one of the world’s largest producers of low-carbon ammonia and is a leading player and innovator in the transportation of liquefied gas products," Exmar said."Nutrien and EXMAR support the decarbonization of shipping and the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Green House Gas (GHG) Strategy to reduce emissions.

Indonesian state-owned energy company PT Pertamina and Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) of Malaysia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop oil and gas business – upstream and downstream, not only in Indonesia or Malaysia but also in other countries.As per MoU, Pertamina will swap crude produced in its Malaysian fields of Kikeh, Kimanis and Kidurong with crude from Petronas' Indonesian fields of Jabung and Ketapang, said a Reuters report quoting Pertamina sources.Meanwhile, Pertamina,  Jakarta-based state-owned oil and natural gas corporation, said in a statement that the two companies have also agreed to explore crude processing investment in East Asia and in other continents…

Suez Canal Authority (SCA) and the Red Sea Ports Authority signed an agreement with Dubai Ports World (DP World) and Sonker Bunkering Company for the development of Egypt’s Ain Sokhna seaport, reports Egypt Independent. The signing of the deal comes in line with directives by Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to upgrade the sea port’s status as part of the broader scheme to develop the Suez Canal region, SCA chief Mohab Mamish said. The joint venture will be responsible for installing a new harbor parallel to the current oil tanker harbor over a period of one year, Mamish said. He added that the undertaking would facilitate the exchange of petrochemical and gas products.

Bailouni weights in on Nakilat, LNG, the gas industry, and SGMF membership. Who are you, and what do you do? Services you provide? Products you offer? Nakilat is a Qatari company that ships LNG from Qatar mega projects to the world. Nakilat owns into 61 LNG vessels. We own 100% of 25 of our vessels, (all 14 QMax and 11 QFlex) and the others are 43% owned on aggregate. We also co-own four VLGCs.

As the energy profile of the U.S. continues to improve and evolve daily, fresh debate in favor of exporting oil and gas products -- which would have a significant impact on the U.S. Maritime Trade -- are gaining steam. A new report from the Government Accounting Office (GAO) will surely add fuel to the "export oil" fire now, as GAO reports that U.S. consumers could save on gasoline if the ban on crude oil exports were lifted, even if such a move creates uncertain environmental risks. Allowing more domestic fuel to reach the global energy market would probably boost the national economy and ease the U.S. trade deficit, but other implications are less clear, the GAO said.

Local equipment suppliers reap dividends, but there’s room for foreign businesses – if they know how to play. After huge oil finds in recent years, Brazil's need for offshore vessels continues to expand and could double between now and the end of the decade. Brazil's state-run oil company Petrobras wants to extract billions of barrels of oil while also developing its shipbuilding and service industries to create jobs. Meanwhile, Brazil is trying to use locally made vessels and equipment, but foreign companies are benefiting from the nation's oil bonanza too.

Caterpillar says their 3500C Diesel Electric Propulsion (DEP) generator sets have entered full production at the Piracicaba, Sao Paulo manufacturing facility, delivering on a commitment to offer superior Cat power solutions products to the burgeoning Brazilian offshore market. Within the past year, the company has achieved significant milestones in Brazil, most recently announcing the RBNA Classification Society Certification of the 3500C generator sets to meet local content regulations. “The demand for Cat power solutions in Brazil has paralleled the exponential growth in the Brazilian offshore market,” noted Gregg Macdonald, Brazil 3500 Program Manager. The 214,000 square-meter Piracicaba facility is Caterpillar’s second facility in Brazil and currently employs over 5,800 people.

Caterpillar announced that the RBNA Classification Society has certified the Cat 3500C diesel electric propulsion generator set packages to meet local content regulations in Brazil. RBNA, a division of ANP, certified that the 3500C products meet in excess of sixty percent local content. As announced previously, Caterpillar expanded operations in Brazil in third quarter 2011 to package marine and oil and gas products in the Piracicaba, Sao Paulo, Brazil facility. “As we continue to expand our marine and petroleum operations in Brazil, a central strategic goal we have is to maximize our local content,” said Gregg Macdonald, Brazil 3500 Program Manager.
